I’ve avoided writing about the manager’s position until now. The Scottish Cup Final is a huge game for the club and as Ange made clear, our focus should be on nothing else. With the nation’s media now telling us Ange will become the next Tottenham manager, I think you and I can be forgiven for thinking we are not alone in losing focus before a cup final. That’s a pity.
Tottenham income to June 2022 was five times higher than Celtic’s. The Athletic reported Antonio Conte, their last permanent manager, earned £15m a year. In a season there, Ange would earn more money than he has in the rest of his career. Park all the ‘professional challenge’ guff, if he is wanted, there is no question of him taking the job, the money makes sure of that. Life in London is fabulous for someone earning millions a year, no matter what happens on a Saturday afternoon.
He is not away yet and it is not beyond Daniel Levy to make a mess of things, but if he goes, it would be a blow. Ange is likeable, does not play games with the board, delivers within budget and is successful. It would, however, not be a fatal blow.
We stand to lose Ange to one of the City Group’s former men. Tottenham appointed Scott Munn as chief football officer eight weeks ago. Munn knows Ange from their days in Australia, before he became City Group CEO in China, the nearest overseas territory when Ange was a City Group manager in Japan.
There is a bit of karma here, as it was another former City Group exec, Mark Lawwell, who recommended Ange to Celtic in the spring of 2021. Our incredibly rapid rebuild in 2021, from the appointment of Ange Postecoglou forward, benefited enormously from City Group’s research and processes.
In July 2022, after nine years, Mark left City Group to become Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment. He understood that a little-known Australian working in Japan was perfect option for Celtic and I am sure he will have strong recommendations. The process that found one transformational manager can find another.
A decade ago, everyone wanted a piece of Barcelona. Now, City Group are the only show in town. We employ the same research and evaluation resources, look for the same indicators but work in a market that is not competitive with City Group’s jewel. We have achieved a huge amount of development in the football department in two years. All that remains in place, irrespective of the manager
If Celtic continue to be as successful as they are, we will lose managers and important players on a regular basis. Bringing in replacements is just part of the process. Trust that process.

Ange’s silence is not sinister, guys in his position can’t afford to be mouthing off.
Even if has already signed a new Celtic contract he can’t let the cat out of the bag.
In the first instance as already stated here that type of news has to broken to Stock Exchange before it goes Public, equally if he is going to Spurs the same rules apply.
So ghuys saying why doesn’t he say one way or the other are not being realistic.
There could be plenty of reasons why Celtic would want to delay an announcement, Sponsorship deals etc.
I don’t know any more or any less than anybody else, but my guess is he will stay another year at least.
—
If he’s signed a contract, it would make sense to me to announce it during the season ticket renewal period. I also don’t think the Club would allow the speculation to overshadow our cup preparations if they had a contract extension up their sleeve.

A sandbag mate. He pointed to a sandbag because someone thought it a good idea to place a sandbag on stage directly behind a man in his 80s.

The guy in charge of the football department at Spurs is Munn.
Levy will not directly deal with their new manager or call the shot on who they appoint .
Mum is a pal of Ange.
He is behind the pursuit of the new manager
The new manager will be given time.
—
I’m sceptical on Levy staying out. Guys like him don’t change.
Time for most managers is dictated by the fans.
Neil Lennon’s last season is the only time I can think of in recent times where any major football board refused to budge when it was clear the fans had lost believe in their manager.
And that was only possible because of covid. No way lennon would have survived to February had fans been in Celtic Park.
If Spurs fans are baying for blood in November, Ange is out.

Good morning all from another fine, lovely, sunny, dry day in the Garngad.
1 more sleep.
Bring on the treble.
I noticed Ross County where not feigning injury, slowing game up and going ott with tackles against thistle last night…..mmm I wonder what could possible, eventually push Ange out of Scottish football.
Managers tactics, Refs, var, sfa, smsm pick any side and roll the dice.

Big Jimmy,
I hope to call in Ship Bank tomorrow after I get our stuff left off at the Maldron Hotel. All being well, we fly at 15:10 from Belfast International. My wife and I are then off to Browns Brasserie to dine at 8:00.
Hope you feel OK after a challenging week for you.

…………………….
SCULLYBHOY, thank you for your Post above but I have to decline the Meet with you and your good lady for 8pm Tonight ( Friday).
It has been a challenging week, and I am feeling knackered and a WEE bit unwell this morning, so I will NOT be going anywhere Today…or for the next few Days I fear ?
By all means, I do hope that you and your Wife make it to the Shipbank at 8pm, and that you both enjoy the LIVE Music with Robert and May Miller. I should also point out, that even IF I felt okay, Im afraid that an 8pm night out and beyond would be no good to me, as I am usually asleep on the Sofa by 9pm most nights.
I also fear that I would NOT be good company at 8pm IF tiredness was kicking in.
I sincerely apologise, and hopefully we can meet up sometime in the future, during an Afternoon and not night time ?
Once again Mate, my apologies if I have let you down. Robert and May usually start their LIVE Session around 8pm.
So sorry Mate.

Fine post and observation
As you say unhappy homes can inhibit a child’s future.Alas in this day and age more and more support is needed as society and family units dissipate.
……………..
Thanks Bhoys, but just for the record, I DID point out that DESPITE my EVIL so called Step Mother, I had the MOST WONDERFUL Childhood that any Child could have.
I was brought up by my Grand Parents as soon as my DA started his National Service, and on his return as a SINGLE Guy he soon met and married this horrible woman. I NEVR lived with them as I continued to stay with my Grand Parents until my first Marriage in 1977.
My DA’s Parents and the rest of the family treated me like a KING….I was well loved by them all…except for THAT EVIL Bitch.
As I have Posted before…I WAS Spoiled Rotten, and my Family gave me me anything I wanted….except for a PONY….LOL.
ALL the Best Bhoys.
HH.
MELBOURNE MICK….
Cheers Mate, but I was VERY LUCKY to have my Grand Parents love along with other Members of my Family throughout my Childhood and beyond.
ANYTHING that I asked for…I GOT……Except for that PONY …LOL.
If I remember correctly I told my Grand Parents that I would keep the Pony in the extra large Coal Bunker near that Back garden we had….IF they bought me one ?
Aye, I must have been a bit of a CHUMP back then also !
LOL

Really sorry Jimmy. I know that you had a very tough week, and I can only try to sympathize as much as is possible. We don’t walk in other people’s shoes, and I won’t pretend to know what you are actually feeling. I might not be over again for a while as I have a lot of treatment ongoing, but if I am, I will definitely tell you in advance.
Keep that fighting spirit that is in you and get down to the rest of the Bhoys as soon as possible.

……………..
Thank you for your understanding Mate.
I also had a Phone Call yesterday morning from my 89 year old Great Auntie, who STILL drives her Car.
Whit a Wummin she is…LOL !
She offered to drive from Dumbarton to my home in the CALTON and pick me up to see my DA in his new Care Home THIS Siunday, and then drive me back home again etc.
I ALSO had to DECLINE her kind offer, due to feeling so knackered Today, and in all honesty, I dont think I could face visiting my DA again so soon after my visit on Wednesday.
I am feeling a wee bit stressed out, and my Tummy is doing Somersaults right now since early this morning.
BTW, even at the Age of 89….my Great Auntie is still a brilliant Driver, she used to drive all over the country in her Job when she was delivering Car Parts in her younger days.
Again, please accept my sincere apologises, as there is NO Point in my arranging to meet you and your good Lady, and then letting you both down at the last minute etc.
have a GREAT time in Glasgow and a safe journey Mate.

Speaking to Football Scotland the Australian said: “They know better than to ask me anything this week mate. They know me very well. They wouldn’t dare ask me about anything.
“No (discussions about Spurs). I know you find that surprising. That’s hard for you to understand because you are not me.
“You are not in my skin, you don’t live and breathe this job that I have and what Saturday means to me, these players, this football club. There is nothing more important – apart from my family obviously – than that game.
“It’s not just about me. This club is planning for next year, planning to bring players in. There is a full range of conversations going on, but my focus is on making sure we win a game of football which is very, very important to us.”
=======================
I am confident Ang will stay.
HH
I met AP this morning for breakfast.
He’s staying.
Caught up with the big Greek-Australian last night. He’s definitely gor the off.
This journalism lark is easy.
PS – who actually are these people betting on Ange joining Spurs?
Must be some amount of action going on?
Whether Ange stays or goes I think next season will be tight. If Beale can put a team on the park that can beat Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts etc then it will come down to the Glasgow derbies as usual.
The referees and var will play a significant part as usual.
Also, and this has puzzled me for a while ….
When it comes to compensation for manager departures ….
There appears to be a widely held assumption that all the poaching club has to do is pony up the value of earnings remaining on the manager’s contract and … ta, da, … It’s all done and dusted.
Where did this come from?
Employees deliver value beyond the cost of employing them – otherwise the employer is guaranteed to lose money.
Players with a year left on a contract which pays them £5m per annum are sold for £25m.
Pure hypothetical :
“Hi Celtic. Daniel Levy speaking.
No, please don’t curtsey. Absolutely no need
“We’d like permission to speak to your manager about the Spurs job”
“Hmm. Tough one Daniel. He is worth a lot to us, is integral to what we do and has added unbelievable value to our club.
But we accept realities so if you agree to pay £12m compensation you can speak to him”
“£12m is too high. How about £6m?. After all you are only paying him £2m p.a.”
“£6m is too low. It’s only 1.4% of your turnover to secure a club’s most important employee?
£9m”
“Ok. I’m a brilliant deal maker who doesn’t waste time. £9m it is”
Just finished breakfast at Coia’s. I’ll probably roll down Duke Street. 😳
What’s the final ticket allocation split after the ICT returns?
Bacon roll ? Square roll ? ( no such thing , it’s a roll n’ square I hear someone shout 😂)
Or was just a straight forward ,forward roll ? 😁😛
Let the good times roll. 👍 😁

Cup final eve.
Shame Celtic supporters are distracted by the efforts of MSM and thieving bookmakers, in a potentially Celtic history making game. I didn’t understand Ange’s reluctance to commit and was in the if you’re staying, then say your staying group of supporters, but reckon we won’t know until Tottenham appoint their man.
Ange hasn’t been silent, quite the opposite any time he’s been asked every twenty minutes. I don’t think he’s been formally offered the job, and its been put off until after the Cup final, he may only be a candidate and he can’t say he’s staying because he probably doesn’t know.

Nothing done/agreed yet as Spurs also discussed Luis Enrique again internally this week.

Referee attends conference organised by a group whose views many find offensive …. but who have a legitimate electoral mandate in a democratic nation.
Cue public spleen venting, hand wringing and virtue signalling.
Plays right into the hands of the far right.
Watching English sports coverage they only mention one cup final and it certainly isn’t ours. We did get a mention on Morning Live together with horse racing.
A brilliant idea to switch to 5:30 for maximum exposure, BBC England showing garden rescue! Wouldn’t be surprised if 80% in England didn’t even know our cup final was on. The other 20% probably think it’s celtic v the huns 🙃
Spurs don’t need to rush into an appointment, preseason training doesn’t start until July, they have a full month to try and secure a more high profile, more in-demand manager. If Ange wants the job now he’ll still want it in July.
It’s a strange way to ingratiate yourself to the man you’ve chosen for your next manager – drop a bombshell that will disrupt his plans two days before a cup final. No matter how hard nosed Levy is it’s not a great way to start an important relationship. These things do matter.
It feels like they could be flushing one or several managers out. There’s talk of new names on the shortlist today.
Just on the Romano tweet.
If Spurs have scheduled talks next week then it confirms talks have already taken place, which is not surprising.
Seems to me that Ange is their fall back option.
So Ange tells a journalist that anyone who knows him would never talk to him about other things (including I assume the job at Spurs) as he prepares the team for the Cup Final. But Fabrizio Romano tells everyone that
‘Tottenham have scheduled new round of talks with Ange Postecoglou at the beginning if next week’ Which if I’m reading this correctly is not to speak with him for the first time, but again, so while Ange is preparing the team for the Cup Final he has also been talking to Spurs about the manager’s job?
Somebody is lying, I don’t know the man but I don’t for a second think it’s Ange.
One thing about high profile EPL manager appointments, they all seem to bring a mini bus of coaches and backroom staff with them starting back to the Mourinho Chelsea days.
I imagine Ange would rock up alone if he were offered and accepted the Spurs gig :-0
Anyways, last on this topic for me now.
Time to look forward to tomorrows game now!
We do know that he couldn’t be happier at Celtic, the relationships he has with the board and the executive are excellent. He hasn’t been agitating for a move.
If it doesn’t happen he seems a strong enough character for it not to affect his work at Celtic. You never know but hopefully his head won’t have been turned
If he doesn’t get offered the job there’s going to be an offer soon enough. We’ll be in this situation again and most likely quite often until he leaves
By dead-batting questions about offers now and before he’s made his life easier in the future, any deviation from that line brings panic and disruption which he always strives to avoid
At least that’s what I’m hoping is the case
