I’ve avoided writing about the manager’s position until now. The Scottish Cup Final is a huge game for the club and as Ange made clear, our focus should be on nothing else. With the nation’s media now telling us Ange will become the next Tottenham manager, I think you and I can be forgiven for thinking we are not alone in losing focus before a cup final. That’s a pity.
Tottenham income to June 2022 was five times higher than Celtic’s. The Athletic reported Antonio Conte, their last permanent manager, earned £15m a year. In a season there, Ange would earn more money than he has in the rest of his career. Park all the ‘professional challenge’ guff, if he is wanted, there is no question of him taking the job, the money makes sure of that. Life in London is fabulous for someone earning millions a year, no matter what happens on a Saturday afternoon.
He is not away yet and it is not beyond Daniel Levy to make a mess of things, but if he goes, it would be a blow. Ange is likeable, does not play games with the board, delivers within budget and is successful. It would, however, not be a fatal blow.
We stand to lose Ange to one of the City Group’s former men. Tottenham appointed Scott Munn as chief football officer eight weeks ago. Munn knows Ange from their days in Australia, before he became City Group CEO in China, the nearest overseas territory when Ange was a City Group manager in Japan.
There is a bit of karma here, as it was another former City Group exec, Mark Lawwell, who recommended Ange to Celtic in the spring of 2021. Our incredibly rapid rebuild in 2021, from the appointment of Ange Postecoglou forward, benefited enormously from City Group’s research and processes.
In July 2022, after nine years, Mark left City Group to become Celtic’s Head of First Team Scouting and Recruitment. He understood that a little-known Australian working in Japan was perfect option for Celtic and I am sure he will have strong recommendations. The process that found one transformational manager can find another.
A decade ago, everyone wanted a piece of Barcelona. Now, City Group are the only show in town. We employ the same research and evaluation resources, look for the same indicators but work in a market that is not competitive with City Group’s jewel. We have achieved a huge amount of development in the football department in two years. All that remains in place, irrespective of the manager
If Celtic continue to be as successful as they are, we will lose managers and important players on a regular basis. Bringing in replacements is just part of the process. Trust that process.

Ange hasn’t talked to them, but his agent is another story.
Its all very reminiscent of the MON years, the SMSM were trying to punt him away immediately after his first season. It was very annoying and distracting for many fans and that was before social media. Yet, MON told Jamie Carragher he was very happen at Celtic and would not have left in 2005 but only for personal reasons (his wife’s illness).
Anyway, hoping to see Iwata at CB again tomorrow. He looked much more assured last weekend with Johnson on hight right side.
I still think that Hatate could be a job a RB too playing the inverted right back role if Johnson was ever injured again. The best inverted full backs at the elite club have a history of playing in midfield and are comfortable inverting into the centre.
Greg Taylor played some midfield roles too in his early career if I am not mistaken. Would explain why he is playing the inverted LB role so well.
BHOY FROM THE BOYNE on 2ND JUNE 2023 11:29 AM
O’Neill nearly left a couple of times. He didn’t do a great impression of being very happy in all his time at Celtic
Alternative headlines:
Last week Celtic supporters gave a multi million pound boost to the beleagured hospitality industry in Glasgow City centre.
The Happy joyous crowd spent, spent, spent and by the next morning the area was immaculate.
This Saturday, Celtic supporters will provide another massive well needed boost to the city’s coffers.
The club took a massive gamble on bringing a manager over from the other side of the world which has paid off in dividends. Celtic hope to achieve a historic treble and are confident they can prevent any club poaching their iconic figurehead.
The future is bright for Celtic as they join the elite and go straight into the Champions league which will bring in millions.

BHOY FROM THE BOYNE – Martin was preparing to leave us in 2003 when he agreed with Risdale to take over Leeds job. He had been offered that job a couple of times previously and with his Celtic 3-year deal almost up he was about to switch. He says that was because Celtic had made no attempt to offer him a new deal. When DD found out, he got him to stay on.
Really?
MON telling porkies in his interview with Jamie Carragher then few weeks back :-)
I must read his autobiography that’s been sitting around since my good wife bought me for xmas.
Moyes asked about replacing Ange …yawn. But his answer differed significantly from the language Ange has used.
“I’m West Ham manager and I’m really enjoying my period here.
“I’m hopefully trying to continue growing a really good football club so I’ve not given it any consideration.
“Through my years I’ve been linked with lots of jobs at different times but I have to say I’m really happy at the moment and I’m settled where I am.”
That’s a manager saying he’s going nowhere. Ange is a different story entirely.
I’ve seen a lot of comments saying if ANge leaves at least it is at end of season rather than a February flit like BR which left a bitter taste in most people’s mouths.
Here’s a question that none of us can know the answer to but worth considering if comparing the two men. What do you think would have happened if, in December or January, Spurs had offered the job to Ange and wanted him there and then -10 -15 million a year plus 10 million compensation to us?
If he is going to go now, I think he would have gone then to.
If he says no now, then safe to say he would have said no then too.

Yeah, timing is everything and we don’t know what Ange would have done had the stars aligned in February.
We do know Rodgers signed an extension which gave us leverage to get top compensation. Ange hasn’t. If he goes to Spurs, we’ve lost a prized asset to a mega rich club for a minimal fee.
Scullybhoy.
I hope you and your good lady have a fine weekend in Glasgow.sorry to read your flight was cancelled I hope it gets rectified.
Enjoy the cup final I am sorry I can’t meet up this weekend but hopefully will cross your path on going over to Donegal in summer

Two different managers, two different situations.
Moyes is hanging on to his job by the skin of his teeth. Even if he wins the Conference League he’s likely to get the sack.
Karen Brady has already done some of the leg work to get Ange in at West Ham.
new article posted.
Westcraigs
“If Beale can put a team on the park that can beat Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts etc then it will come down to the Glasgow derbies as usual.”
———————————-
Just how “usual” is it for the Glasgow Derbies to be decisive in league outcome. With 12 points at stake- how often do we even get a 9:3 split of the points far less a 12:0 split?
Yet recent leagues have been won by 7, 4, 25 , 13, 9, and 9, since Sevco entered the top leagues.
In the years from 2012 going back to 2004 , the gap between first and second was 20, 1, 6, 4, 3, 12, 17, 1, and 17.
Any gap over 12 disproves your thesis, that is , 2 of the last 6 and 6 of the last 15. I would argue any gap over 9 points makes your thesis unlikely – that is 4 of the last 6 and 8 of the last 15.
If these derbies were decisive the defeats and draws column would reflect that.
So- looking only at the leagues where the gap was under 9 points- the ones that should favour your thesis, we should expect the win/ draw column to be only made up by Glasgow Derby results.
In 2023 – Celtic drew 3 and lost3, Rangers drew 5 and lost 4. Not only was it not derby decisive, Celtic 4 of those adverse 6 results in their final 7 matches- after the league had been won. In the Derby matches Celtic won 7pts and Rangers won 4 pts- that 3 point gap did not decide the league
Let’s look at the league titles that were very close
In Ange’s first season we won by 4 points only. We drew 6 and lost 3. Rangers drew 8 and lost 3. Since there are only 4 derby matches, 4 out of 9 or 4 out of 11 adverse results could not see the Derby as decisive. The head to heads that season were again a 7points to 4 split, accounting for only 3 points of our 4 point gap. So again- not decisive. Even if you were to argue that one goal turns a draw into a win for them, we would have won the league by 2 points still and the share of Derby points would have been 6:6. And you’ll be ignoring our other 2 defeats and 5 draws with teams that were not Rangers.
Even with the old Rangers, if you look at season 2010/11 where they won by 1 point, Rangers drew 3 and lost 5 matches while we drew 5 and lost 4. Our head to heads in the league resulted in a 7:4 points split again but it doesn’t support your thesis because it was Celtic that got the 3 point advantage in the head to head matches. We lost the league or they won it on Non-Glasgow Derby match results.
The Derby matches are emotionally important to us but they rarely decide a league, despite the persistence of that view. You have to beat the also rans regularly, even if you win all 4 Derby games.

Just on the Romano tweet.
If Spurs have scheduled talks next week then it confirms talks have already taken place, which is not surprising.
Seems to me that Ange is their fall back option.
================
Do you know what Fabrizio Romano is?
It’s what’s called a media dump! Rumour central.
Why do you attach Kudos to it?
His % of correct guesses is actually v v low.
How do you know talks already took place last week?
You don’t AD.but do add to the speculation friend.i suppose it’s only natural with a surprising amount of Celts engage in the spec garbage that vents from media, not only our pathetic murraymedia but the bestest most marketable flatulence on the planets media.
For the record I am 100% Ang will stay.
I could give my reasons but I listen to him and I hear him and have confidence in him.
Who knows what tomorrow brings, but it don’t need to negative or spec negative, but Celtic will go on
Enjoy the final the morra.
A possible 8th treble eh
7 I have seen fortunately
Enjoy
