Issuing an angry statement ahead of a big game is not a bad strategy. Angry statements resonate with the lowest common denominator, who are often the ones most likely to cause custodians of the club aggravation.
It is a subliminal way to say “We are just like you, we share your hopes and frustrations.” It is almost as though they anticipate a difficult time coming up soon. Throw in the mandatory patronising phrase, like, “supporters who have repeatedly proven themselves to be the most loyal in the country” and you are sorted.
Football fans occupying areas further up the food chain, however, will roll their eyes when reading drivel like, “this decision, which beggars belief.”
What struck me most about Newco’s statement last night is that a chink of self-awareness seemed to be dawning, “clubs the length and breadth of the country….. benefitted financially from the presence of our fans.”
This reaches the heart of the matter. Newco are profitable for every club they play. They open their wallets and dump a caravan of cash wherever they go, which is good for P&Ls from Kilmarnock to Dingwall. It’s just, Newco are not actually profitable.
The model works for everyone else, just not for a club who want more success on the field than their income can buy. They are a cash cow. But while they can do wonders for the profitability of smaller clubs, they are impotent when it comes to fixing their own profitability problems.
Don’t resent that smaller clubs get a boost when you visit, do what Celtic do – feel good that you can help the rest of the league. Be generous in spirit and maybe others will reciprocate.
The solution is not to howl at the moon, adept at it, though Newco are, it is to bring spending into alignment with income. Beat Hibernian at their own £5m football budget game and respect will follow.
Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park
An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.
You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.
Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. The game will take place on 16 May, kick off 11:00. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).
To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page. Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com
The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words. I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs. The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.
You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.
Good luck!

Evening:
I’ve been a subscriber to CelticTV since 1999 except for the summer months of 2001 and 2016. It was an iffy service the first two years and so much better through the rest of that first decade. Now I just log on watch the game, every game and occasionally watch a replay or an older video. I use it almost exclusively for the live games, not for any other content. It’s is the way I watch Celtic. It is much better than any other way I’ve tried for following Celtic. It’s live, high definition, big screen Celtic games. Fantastic service. I’m very happy with it here in Canada.

For the record I don’t always agree with PAUL67 (Our host – see I named him there)
Hell ,sometimes I don’t even read the “article”.
But……………I do enjoy the postings and ramblings and sometimes the pure pish that is posted on here, sometimes by me.
The biggest plus for me about CQN is that I’ve met hunners of them………..and loved them all!
I support Celtic.
No one on here or in any walk of life will ever get me to change how I feel about Celtic.
My Celtic.
I’ve been going to games since the early 50’s.
No regrets.
Win, lose or draw, I’m a Tim.
Thank God.

Celtic’s Scott Brown gets Alex McLeish’s backing for Premiership player award

Celtic captain Scott Brown
Brown has played in 51 games for Celtic this season
Alex McLeish says Celtic captain Scott Brown would be his player of the year in Scotland.
Brown recently retired from international duty but is among the nominations for the PFA Scotland’s Premiership award, which is voted for by fellow professionals.
“Scott Brown has been on amazing form every time I’ve watched him,” Scotland manager McLeish said.
“It’s hard to look past the consistency of someone like that.”
Brown is up against fellow Celtic midfielder James Forrest, Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd and Hibernian midfielder John McGinn for the PFA award.
But McLeish thinks the 32-year-old would be worthy of winning the accolade for a second time – he was player of the year in 2009 – after leading his side to a League Cup triumph, a likely seventh league title in a row and the forthcoming Scottish Cup final.
Watch PFA Scotland Player of the Year nominees in action
“He’s obviously retired from the national team, but he’s got to be up there,” he said.
“He will tell you himself, as he did when I spoke to him about the national team, that he felt he was feeling it more now – the games, the travelling, coming back, the commitment to both teams.
“When you get more experienced as a player, you know your own body, whereas perhaps as a young player you don’t treat it with the same respect that you do as you get older.
“I guess that is why he chose to leave, but his form has been very good. He’s an outstanding candidate for the award.”
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is up again for the Scottish Professional Football League Young Player of the Year award he has already won two seasons in a row.
However, McLeish also had praise for Aberdeen central defender Scott McKenna, who is among the four-strong list of nominations along with Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos and St Mirren’s on-loan Celtic winger, Lewis Morgan.
Aberdeen defender Scott McKenna celebrates
Young player of the year nominee Scott McKenna also received praise from McLeish
“McKenna at Aberdeen has shown what can happen inside a year or two,” he said of the 21-year-old.
“We’ve been talking about a lack of centre-halves coming through over the last three or four years and now we have a new influx of young ones.
“Celtic’s Jack Hendry as well, who had a really good debut in Hungary. These boys are hopefully Scotland’s future.”
McLeish’s predecessor as national boss, Gordon Strachan, often lamented the lack of options available to him in a position in which his former Aberdeen team-mate won 77 caps.
However, McKenna’s form in his first season in the Dons first-team led McLeish to cap the 21-year-old twice, while Hearts’ John Souttar, Barnsley’s Liam Lindsay and Rangers duo Ross McCrorie and David Bates have also received praise for their club performances.
“I said when I got the job that there’s been a surge of good young players coming through the ranks,” McLeish added.

Aberdeen City Council’s planning department formally approved the £50m development at Kingsford, near Westhill.
The club hopes to begin construction of the 20,000-capacity stadium in June.
