Another ‘Clinical’ side for Celtic

150

Atalanta sit sixth in Serie A, having won four and lost three of eight games.  Last term they finished behind only the big three in Italy: Inter, Milan and Juventus, while beating undefeated German champions, Bayer Leverkusen, in the Europa League in Dublin.

After a poor August, when they lost the Super Cup to Real Madrid and endured league defeats at Torino and Inter, they found their rhythm.  They  have yet to concede in the Champions League (0-0 home to Arsenal and 0-3 away win against Shakhtar Donetsk) and go into tomorrow’s game against Celtic in good form, having scored 10 and conceding only once this month.

The word we heard after Champions League matchday 2 was “clinical”, used repeatedly to describe Borussia Dortmund.  Expect nothing less from Atalanta.  This is a team full of confidence who will exploit open spaces.  We may hear “clinical” mentioned a lot in Europe this season.

  1. I think we will play well in periods and compete tomorrow but ultimately concede 1 early , equalise about 60mins and concede 2 late on

    Still, mon the Hoops!!!🍀

  2. Don’t think we’ll see Kuhn start tomorrow. We need an extra midfielder to close down the space defensively. Also, would like to see Idah start as he can hold the ball up better then Kyogo. If we’re still in the game last 20, then we bring on Kuhn and Kyogo. When the draw was made it looked like the run of 3 games we are in were going to be the hardest to get anything from. So, no great expectations for tomorrow, but as always we live in hope.

  3. When Brendan was at Leicester, he must have played a more cautious team when going to Etihad, Anfield, Chelsea….

..why won’t he do it for certain European games?

Has anyone broached the subject that perhaps a lot of our issues are stemming from Mcgregor?

Seems to have lost a lot of pace and edge over the past 9-12 months.

    —————————

I haven’t noticed him losing a lot of pace, however he does not appear as influential in the general run of the game this season so far . On the plus side his scoring rate has increased and I’m sure we will get the benefit of his international retirement as the season progresses.

A note of caution which I mentioned a few months ago when his Achilles Tendinopathy flared-up. That type of injury rarely fully heals – it can be managed and I’m sure the sports science people at Lennoxtown will be on it big time. No doubt it was central to his national team decision. Callum is still very much a big player for us.

I’m going for 2-2 tomorrow night.

But am not confident enough to say for which team.

  6. 5-3-2 seems a compromise for tomorrow night.Kyogo/Maeda/Khun.Any 2 from 3 up front.Great pace.

  7. Happy 60th Birthday to Celtic LEGEND…PAUL MACSTAY.

Back in 2008 at a Champions League and drinking and dining in a Hospitality Suite, my mates and I asked TOM BOYD…..” Who was the best Celtic player that you ever played with” ?

Most of us thought that Tom would say ” HENRIK”….but NO…Tommy Boyd said ” Paul MacStay” without hesitation !

None of us at our Table debated Tommy Boyds choice.

  8. Can’t see our manager changing tactics. Wish he would but in the circumstances, I hope he picks experience, like James Forrest. Can the lhad McGowan play defensive midfield?

Need a road bike couriered from Birmingham. Anyone know of someone coming up soon?

  10. this is a first i think.an interesting fixture

larne v shamrock rovers europa conference, will wits be attendind

  11. I’ll be interested to see the Real Madrid v BVB later today, to see how the Germans play in Madrid.

On the topic of Atalanta, fortunately my desk is already behind my couch in my study, merely hoping for an upset with some pragmatic touches.

We always knew this would be a hard game.

  12. I’ll be delighted and amazed if we get a result tomorrow. A very good Italian side away from home and we’ll no doubt be wide open. That’s not a positive combination.

They say they’re more than a club – no just a commodity

    —————————————-

A development not unexpected. Those who pushed for the Super League and lost out will not just sit around twiddling their fingers. There will be constant pressure to explore new markets and formats and to extract the greatest financial return for their clubs.

The saying that we know so well “football is nothing without fans” – yes but who’s fans and what fans?

The pandemic and subsequent lockdowns demonstrated that football can be broadcasted world-wide without fans – with ‘painted-in’ crowds and recorded sound effects.

The USA has now embraced and fallen in love with ‘soccer’ and will become an ever-increasing influence in world football. The Super League will happen with the power and financial clout from the States and it will be irresistible to all the big guns in the big leagues – when? – who’s knows, but it will happen.

  14. “Football is without fans is nothing” Unfortunately, seen by PLC’s around the World as sentimental claptrap. Football has been a business since the late 1800’s. More so now than ever, with conglomerates part of the game it’ll be the business acumen of the executives who will drive the monetary aspects for the fullest $, £, & €, por cierto.

  15. If Brendan repeats his Dortmund disaster he deserves to be bulleted the morra night.

At a real club this would not happen but the same PLC Executives have watched Brendan repeat these CL disasters in and out of the job for 8 years now.

Brendan is incapable of learning so what can he teach his players?

And how does it reflect on the players statuses when Transfer window opens?

  16. We’re perfect fodder for a euro team, who are having a poor run , to turn it on and wallop us

    4 0 atalanta

Any chance we could stat with Idah up front, calmac , mccowan, bernardo to try and reduce space available to them?

  17. Saint Stivs

I spent a few hours in Larne recently (missed my ferry due to carnage on M50 Dublin). A very depressing place.

Pound shops, boarded up businesses, homeless, street drinkers, a lot of old people.

I did find a nice wee coffee shop, a park and people were generally friendly but couldn’t really work out what the local economy was. The coffee shop at the port even wants cash to save costs.

A lot of towns on the Scottish side of ferry route are the same (Ayrshire) but this felt a lot worse .

Amazing how well that football team has done.

  20. Evening all.

There will be a meeting of the ‘Shipbank Shipwrecks’ will take place on Friday 1st November (All Saints Day).

If you can come along, it’s always great day out.

Catch up with old friends, meet some new ones.

As it will be a return to the bevvy for BRRB, he will be performing a ‘Burlesque’ routine that he has perfected at home whist he was on the wagon.
