Another treble yell, Mackay-Steven needs football

337

Another year, another “treble yell” from the Celtic family, this time from Lubo Moravcik. Lubo did it, of course, but that was 16 years ago, and despite playing monopoly with the league since then, we’ve not managed to add two trophies to the haul.

Celtic have secured one trophy, with the league title a formality, so the treble is now all about the Scottish Cup. The cynics will expect difficult draws (should we overcome Albion Rovers) and, perhaps, ground-breaking referee decisions. A grasp of history suggests our chances are no more than 50%.

I can understand Brendan Rodgers wanting to retain a fringe player, like Gary Mackay-Steven, in order to give the player a proper assessment during the second half of the season, but Gary needs to play football right now. A period on loan at Tannadice would help him return to form, and if it didn’t, it would answer a few questions for Brendan.

“CQN was, I believe, set up to counteract the lack of real journalism in Scotland. Sometimes that seems to have been forgotten.”

Thanks for that, I think you are 100% correct, at times we can feel as if we are preaching to the converted on CQN but we shouldn’t be blasé.

The piece by Martin Hannan in which he takes the moral high ground and he attacks the blogosphere all the while producing duplicitous, vacuous content, is exactly the kind of article that needs to be challenged.

    Agree on GMS…

If he’s going to make it at Celtic, he’s going to need the best Mangers and Coaches to achieve that…

He’ll only find that one place in Scotland. Hope he makes it, I think there’s a player there.

Caution DR link, defender at Man City we are allegedly looking at

    ———–

To save people clicking on a link to the DR, his name is Tosin Adarabioyo, 19, a 6ft 5 Manchester born youth product, Centre half, 6 months left on his deal.

Heavily linked with Everton in the last few days, so may just be a lazy, tenuous Celtic / City link, with a Celtic snubbed headline in mind. City can sell him for more to Everton, and we can’t out bid them on wages regardless.

I see a few comments regarding Lisbon in May. I was thinking about going along and taking the auld fella too. Prices of flights etc are pretty reasonable.

Are the club organising anything in Lisbon for the anniversary? Will the lions be making the trip? Etc etc

Like I said earlier – the SMSM are not journalists – they are reporters who report what they’re told to report by generations of hun spinmeisters.

Ergo generations of Scottish sports ‘journalists’ have introduced the concept of de-evolution into the occupation – resulting in todays trained parrots like Keech and his forelock-tugging ilk.

No a big fan of Bitton but thought when on form he was good, consistency was/is a problem, always called out when he had a stinker or what I thought was a stinker but never liked any player being offered a lift to the airport.

Remember GMS having a spate of MotM performances and still getting dogs abuse, it’s the same old same old, made up minds hate to be proved wrong, would rather loose a good player.

Same with JF always called out why I wasn’t happy with him and admitted when he deserved the plaudits so recognise there was talent but again consistency was the issue. Being wrong about a player can have have its rewards.

    Here’s a thought.

Why not let Brendan Rodgers decide which players he should keep, loan out or promote to the first team.

I know it is tempting to “play ” at being the manager, but when negative comments about Celtic players appear in print, then it is another matter. It’s different from pub talk.

Especially when those comments contain derogatory remarks concerning their abilities. A habit of one or two of the eejits on here

    Celtic by numbers,

Interesting stats, for me further breakdown identifying two main sets, a set identifying starts with associated stats and a set identifying coming on as a sub with associated stats. Including season breakdowns that include lay off would also help, point of this would be that the form of players before being interrupted would help remind us about just how good players were before, absence makes the heart grow fonder can make legends of donkeys :)

Hi Paul (Murray), a couple of questions for you.

Firstly, how can you personally reconcile having been on the Board of one liquidated company and on the Board of another with no line of credit and obvious financial difficulties with giving this lecture on successful business acumen?

Second, what is your take, bearing in mind UK business law, on a liquidated Company retaining its previous name and pretending to be the same Company but denying the liquidated Company’s liabilities?

Finally, how did a man with a Timmy-sounding name become a hun?

    Pog…,

Question one is a cracker, question two is covered in a post I made to Auldheid the other night, form 4.73 I think it was, allows directors to continue as a director of a company of the same name after it has liquidated as long as they have not been prosecuted.

I’d say the one about what he would have done in 2011-12 with no European income is a pretty good one.

All these RRM that blamed Craig Whyte for everything and said everything was okay until he took over, but the reality is that they had been living off CL income for two years and it was a ticking time bomb that was ready to go off as soon as they missed out.

Be interesting to know what he would say he would have done if he had been there.

    TTT,

Disagree on the idea that supporter should not be allowed to have favourites and offer conjecture about their preferences, it’s probably the biggest talking point about football, where the manager has gone wrong.

It’s like telling supporter they should not comment on football.

  29. CELTIC BY NUMBERS

    Great site.

I think GMS numbers are not bad.

Roberts .JF and Sinclair numbers all have higher stats due to the fluidity and success of Brendan system this season.

I would expect GMS numbers would increase dramatically if he is given extended time for the remainder of the season.

In the second half of last seasons there were signs of a growing partnership with Griff that got cut short due to his injury.

He seems to be a confidence player and with the right nurturing he could thrive.

I like that we did not send him on loan and hope he takes the mantle of his good buddy Armstrong and becomes another Celtic legend.
