Another year, another “treble yell” from the Celtic family, this time from Lubo Moravcik. Lubo did it, of course, but that was 16 years ago, and despite playing monopoly with the league since then, we’ve not managed to add two trophies to the haul.
Celtic have secured one trophy, with the league title a formality, so the treble is now all about the Scottish Cup. The cynics will expect difficult draws (should we overcome Albion Rovers) and, perhaps, ground-breaking referee decisions. A grasp of history suggests our chances are no more than 50%.
I can understand Brendan Rodgers wanting to retain a fringe player, like Gary Mackay-Steven, in order to give the player a proper assessment during the second half of the season, but Gary needs to play football right now. A period on loan at Tannadice would help him return to form, and if it didn’t, it would answer a few questions for Brendan.

CQN is merely a reflection of the society of today, which is in an unfettered race to the bottom.
When was the last time that there was a cohesive debate in any election?
Either in Ireland, Britain or more recently, the USA.
Factions don’t debate on reason or logic. They merely shout insults and character assassinations at each other.
CQN and other places are simply following the trend.
As a wise man said, “It is what it is”.
Wil do ……
Be nice now ….
Afoooooot….
THOMTHETIM
Id say that parliamentary politics in general is a busted flush, thats why there is no real debate.
People know that their so-called representatives are the lowest form of life….Greed maketh the man/woman.
For example, the two candidates in the recent US elections, are two of the most corrupt people you will ever clap eyes on…seriously.
And then we have the likes of Theresa May, Boris Johnston, Liam Fox, Michael Gove……what planet they are on, i dont know…..these tories think its still the nineteenth-century, they are barking mad.
Then we have the so-called Labour Party….which isnt really.
And the Nats, and wee Nichola who popos her head round the door every few weeks with some bs, while her constituency Govanhill is like something from the 1930s.
Just a few thoughts.
Plenty of debates here, if thats what youd like.

Sorry for the late rely, Paul67 covered this on Monday.
He does not, unlike saddo’s like me, read every post on this blog. However if anyone has a problem with a comment they are asked to contact him directly and he will act accordingly. The moderators role was also defined. They can only delete posts not suspend accounts. On Monday several posters took exception to posts insulting people on here. Moderator 2 (?) came on later that day and apologised for the delay in removing the offending posts. Again the moderators. and Paul67 himself. have other responsibilities away from CQN and it cannot be monitored 24/7.
Simple manners would go a long way in fixing some of the problems on here.
That final comment was not addressed at any individual poster, but applies to everyone, my self included.
Owen
I agree with you. We shouldnt be slagging each other off.
But none of us are perfect…most of us have lost the plot for one reason or another, i know i have.
I dont expect Paul67 or the mods to be on the case 24/7.
Nae fitba…..lots of frustration and boredom.

The Green Man
Have had my moments when I have had to bite my tongue or face the consequences. No one is perfect but I have even seen posters go out of their way to goad the moderators into deleting posts so that they can play the martyr with their “wounded innocence” act.
Ridiculous that Paul67 has to employ mods .
Like weans in the playground needing a monitor, because they can’t control their emotions.
Owen
Mostly, we crack gags, but obviously online, people will wind each other up.
Hopefully though…we can all forgive each other and laugh about about it later.
It wouldnt be much fun if we all agreed all the time:)

Right that’s me off.

Anyone else following James Doleman on Twitter, re the guy suing Coral for £250,000 on Rangers (1872) being relegated? Or The Hunfight at the OK Coral, as some wag called it.
It was very frustrating following the coverage yesterday, Coral doing a very awkward dance to keep as far away from the L word (liquidation) as possible, likewise the same club/different club story – anything to preserve the Blue Pound, I guess.
So it’s both instructive and a relief to have someone on the stand this morning, the solicitor for the SPFL, who does not have that axe to grind and who seems to be a bit more upfront. Bits of the 5-way agreement appear to be trickling out, or at least being hinted at. Hopefully more to come. Hats off to James Doleman for the tweets!

Was looking for video of Craig Bellamy’s hat-trick against Dundee United, it’s on YouTube however the quality of the video is poor, considering it was recent enough.
Stumbled upon this from 72 Cup Final – quality of the video footage is superb :

In 1989 Mo Johnston signed for the huns and…..months later, when he had scored the winner in the last minute vs us at ibrokes, Jim White interviewed him on Scotsport and asked…..
JW – “Mo, did you sign for RFC purely for the financial reasons – did ye get a better offer than Celtic offered you ?”
MJ – ” No Jim, both clubs offered me the same deal but, I had a tax issue with Nantes FC for £150,000 which Celtic couldn’t look at but, RFC fixed for me.”
….back in the day….
Also, when Celtic paraded MJ as a new signing….MJ hadn’t signed anything.
The desperate Celtic board of 1989, used MJ to lift Celtic morale and, stop the huns winning the treble as Wee Super Joe Miller scored his magical goal to spark amazing memories from the uncovered-underdog-Jungle on the Jock Stein terracing behind the goals as, we celebrated what we thought was going to be the start of another amazing chapter in our history coz, ye could see the fear in the huns eyes at the thought of MJ coming back to the Cellic, just on the back of Macca leaving. But, it turned out that, the desperate Celtic board had used MJ and,…karma bit Timdom’s erchie for the next 9 years as a result.
Having said all of that about the then Cellic board….I still don’t think that the Kelly’s and White’s would have looked the other way at all the huns cheating / tax evasion etc…, in the way that Fergus McCann and the rest of his follower’s have done….imho.
….off-oot…..

Brilliant!
I was there that day and can almost guarantee that I was wearing my green gingham shirt and my bovver boots, lol. I definitely know what scarf I was wearing as I still have it.

The Mods will need to pull your post quoting the L word as it could lead to “social unrest” in parts of our City!
THE GREEN MAN SAYS SACK THE BOARD on
Can’t remember who said it but it was never more true than in the last chapter of politics both here and in the US.
“Politics is the entertainment division of the military industrial complex”
Now the US has a reality show host as their president it doesn’t get any more bizarre than that:))

Question – apart from Paul67 who is the longest serving poster on the blog? Perhaps Paul67 could tell us, we seem to have lost a fair few of the “regulars” H H Hebcelt

I believe you are incorrect with regards the le Merde signing.
Celtic Athletic Football Club did have a signature from le Merde on a contract and UEFA and\or FIFA (I cannot remember) backed the clubs position on this when the club questioned the signing of la merde to la merde. The club then bottled it when they could have restricted the wee bumwipe skid mark for playing for the duration of the contract he signed with la merde club long since dead now.

new article posted.
Morning all
Start work at 1 today so this might go on a bit. Apologies in advance.
I have read some of the contents here about this blog and the way it is. I read Thomthetim’s post of 10.56 and the nature ( or death) of debate not just here but in the wider world. It rang bells. Very loudly. I actually thought the Scottish Referendum was not such a bad debate – I avoided here during that period- but since then things have been dispiritingly bad. Perhaps we get the politicians we deserve.
Specifically here I think there are those who post who cannot countenance the idea that any other point of view to their own could be not just valid but intelligent I can, in the real world, be as guilty of this failing but try not to here. That those who are most guilty here of this failing are though many of the posters I read most avidly and often agree with. I will though single out Neganon as I do quite often dislike his tone and what he writes but you know I like posters like him- people who present generally coherent if not pleasing views in a way that cannot be just dismissed as ‘rubbish’. ( well usually). He and they give the blog substance and I learn things from them. The personal invective one or two can slip in is unfortunate and I accept that Aw Naw may have genuinely offended some on Monday but as I said here before unless it is a credible threat of violence ( or obscenity) pretty much anything should be allowed. And I have not covered myself in glory in my dealings with TSD, Alfie or more recently Big Peat- sorry big chap genuine misunderstanding on my part- so I know I am no angel.
I tend to subscribe to the notion espoused earlier in the week by Canalamar ( I think) that the blog has always been ‘not as good as it used to be’ – but it still can be fun as well as provocative and annoying. Res12 originated here and although the prognosis of some closer to the action is not optimistic it could yet produce something significant. That Res 12 has moved forward at all says this blog is not just a vehicle for over-opinionated, overgrown schoolboys. The articles Paul writes are not always that brilliant but some are. I am of an open mind as to whether CQN should, editorially, be more in tune with concerns of those who post here. I am not sure that printing negative articles about the Board have ever been part of the original mission but nor am I sure they are not.
To more humdrum matters. I think people should be entitled to voice opinions about players past and present. This is a forum for Celtic supporters and comments on what I or we think of players should be bread and butter. I have never liked the abuse of players during games that I am at – it upset me to hear the stick the likes of Johansen, Forrest and Armstrong were having to take 8-12 months ago as much as it upset me as when even Big Bily, Bobby Murdoch and Charlie Gallagher sometimes did when I was a child. But coming in here and saying you think that GMS has not looked good enough since his opening burst of games or that it was a mystery why Peter Grant got so many games * are not abuse, not wishing him to fail and not saying that I know more than Brendan Rodgers. They are opinions. Saying that you cannot criticise a player because the player is better than you at football is like saying I cannot say Rubens did a lot of lousy cliched, paintings because he was probably better at ‘drawing’ than 99.9999% of those who ever tried to paint a picture**. Genuinely witty put downs are rare and trips to airport are a bit old hat but I won’t criiticise attempts at wit. Unless it”s about Jinky, Danny or Henrik!
Right I am now nearly at my work and am probably into new article posted territory and apologise for the length of this drivel.
Have good days
Jimbo67
*this is not an encouragement for a debate he is an example of a player I never rated)
**see above comments re Grant P but substitute ‘painter’ for ‘player’.
