Answering tangential digs at Celtic

570

I see Celtic’s name was dragged by the media into what some low-life vandals did outside Ibrox this week – and a few years ago, for good measure.  There are low-life vandals out there, and we don’t have a way to filter them out of the Celtic support, so I‘d not dispute any of the tangential links, but vandalism like this happens all too often without media coverage.

When stories suddenly appear to be so well framed in the newspapers, you have to wonder why?  Or who is behind them?

There’s a big play underway for what, in this context, should be called Supremacy in Scotland.  Celtic have it right now and no one else is strong enough to eclipse them.  The best way to achieve this is to destabilise the club.  It’s worked, but only to an extent.

I read Paul Larkin on Hail Hail Media this morning who raises some interesting questions on what’s going on and what we should do about it, “as a collective, cannot be beaten”.  It’s hard to argue with.

We’ve got two exciting bits of Magners business for you today………..

First, if you want to win two Premium Seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Sunday’s potential league winning game against Aberdeen, courtesy of main club sponsor, Magners, answer this question about our last 9-in-a-row campaign:

Against which team did Celtic win the first of their 9 consecutive titles, in 1966?

It was a famous game, settled by a famous scorer.  Email the team name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of your message, to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 17:00 TODAY, so you only have a few hours…..

And there’s more……  How do you fancy playing on Celtic Park in 12 days’ time?  Go to Facebook and enter this Magners competition to win a place in the end of season 7s tournament.

You get to grace the place that McGrory, Johnstone, Dalglish and Larsson did their stuff.  Do it.

Now I’ve got you in a good mood.  If you’ve a spare £1 in your metaphorical pocket, go stick it into the CQN Mary’s Meals appeal  Those CQN school kitchens in Malawi feed over 2,000 kids each day.  That’s food needed every day………

One step at a time. Let’s establish the facts first.

Any decision would then have to take into account what is in Celtic and the games interest where one is interdependent on the other.

I’d love there to be some negotiating on that issue if it were to transpire.

As soon as im in office, a fleet of bulldozers will be sent in the early hours to demolish the circus of horrors at ipox. Once its demolished….a placard will be put up which reads:

Back in the day Celtic FC decided it was time to publish its’ own weekly paper. I know you will remember it, and I know I do because I was the bhoy who had to deliver it. The reason being to give the club a voice, not least to our new manager the great Jock Stein who if my memory serves me well wrote in the very first edition. But that was then.

I make no apologies for repeating, ad nauseum, the old story about the two main publications back in the old USSR; Izvestia and Pravda, the news and the truth.

Except of course there was no news in Izvestia and no truth in Pravda.

And there is neither in today’s Celtic View!

  7. Rallying call to all the malcontents.

Dance the media tune and finish this short term pre eminence as quick as we can.

The Celtic bandwagon must be stopped.

This month it is resolution 12.

Next month it will be that we have picked the wrong manager.

5 League wins in a row for only the 4th time in scottish football history.

But no. Far better we find every way to destabilise our club when we might have a whisper of a challenge. Let’s have anarchy and an unsustainable strategy before any possibility of dominance over our aligned and ‘together’ but financially less robust new rivals.

An interesting article. And another for the ‘sycophantic, head in the sand’ pile sadly. Firstly – your suggestion we should unify… Behind what precisely? The main inference I can gather from the article is that a significant proportion of Celtic fans asking questions are in fact malcontents standing against the club and interests. If I’m wrong, I’ll happily apologise – although as is the norm I fully expect you to ignore the difficult questions and bludgeon on with the ‘nothing to see here, reply to the anointed’ approach.

Now, stepping out from the reality distortion field you’re trying to shelter Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond under, can we expect a ‘big picture’ post or are Level 5 currently the biggest issue we have?

See…. Aside from the Res bear number the board are pulling, there are a number of bigger issues at Celtic that make Level 5 seem insignificant.

Let’s move away from the ‘fitba for a second and examine our ‘more than club’ ethos –

What is your opinion in Celtic employing now both alcohol AND gambling firms on our strip? Bearing in mind the links with alcoholism and poverty, and alcoholism and problem gambling. Issues which famous Celtic players and managers have both suffered from seriously and which have had a devastating effect on our society? Do you think it appropriate that Celtic would have this duo as sponsors? Or is it enough that the Green Brigade organise food bank collections for people’s whose lives are irreversibly damaged by booze and betting?

Ian Bankier’s comments about Celtic fans? And his ongoing position on the board?

‘Lord’ Livingston? Is it acceptable to have someone with his record board? And bear in mind Celtic are ‘more than a club’ and our social charter.

It’s sad that I’ve yet you see you censure some of the utter abuse posters take on here day in day out, and have yet to offer any comment on The Donald/Kojo’s previous for racism and current fondness for oblique and not so oblique abuse of time served posters. Of course, it’s ‘only jokin’, unless you’re on the receiving end.

More than a club? Only in the sense we’re now nothing more than a corporate vehicle. A vehicle backed vociferously by you. You’re a wolf in sheets clothing. You’ve weaponised the once magnificent CQN for the ends of Lawwell and the venture capitalists.

No gods, no masters, anarchy is order.

Celtic Mac-I think Celtic could do so much more through their own media. Celtic TV could be funded on a Sky channel through subscription or an extra tenner on a Season Ticket, online radio station etc. I used to watch Liverpool TV when it was free view, every 2nd advert was for golf trips to Ireland,a wee bit of imagination required IMO HH

Surely the way to deal with the gutter press is simple. The cover price goes nowhere near covering the cost of wages, production, distribution etc. They depend on advertising revenue the amount of which depends on circulation figures. The more these drop the more likely publication ceases just like tomorrow’s edition of the “New Day”

The only ones that I feel sorry for are the ordinary workers not the harlot “journalists”.

Does such an accolade have an economic value, does it increase the amount of goodwill attaching to a club, does it help generate advertising and sponsorship, does it help attract and retain fans?

Do the Celtic board not have an obligation to the shareholders to establish and protect something that rightly belongs to the Club?

How is it Celtic’s fault if we are drawn to play THEM?

It would be nice if some rich supporter were to provide money for eg Mary’s Meals to adorn our shirts. No sponsorship means less money to spend on the team – and then there would be those demanding that we spend big for better quality. I have qualms about advertising drink and gambling but no one is forced to do such things. It would be desirable to have unadorned Celtic strips but even Barcelona submitted to market pressures.

P8DDY I can understand your frustration with things but would suggest that you review your attack on our genial host. Is he not equally entitled to express his views on his blog without accusations of misdeeds?? HH

Which do you think would be the most popular choice if you gave all of the support the following choice:

    1) an ethical sponsor or charity on the shirt;

    2) £5M more in the transfer budget.

The point of course, is that most fans just don’t really care. The majority don’t care about Res 12 or LNS. The majority don’t really care that much about PL and DD. The majority are quite happy to see TRFC in the SPL.

Social media creates a bubble where you read, agree with and follow people of a similar mind and ppl end up believing their issues are far more common and supported than they really are.

An unscientific survey of 5 supporters in my office (with various amounts of online engagement) revealed that only two had even the slightest idea what Res 12 was, and one of them wasn’t really bothered about it.

Yes unfortunately there are idiots at all clubs. One person I know was so disgusted by these pictures that he posted them on Facebook. He was quick to describe those responsible as “Vermin” which, personally I wouldn’t disagree with ,although, lacking a decent upbringing is probably closer to the mark. When I pointed out to him that he’d continuously tried points scoring be calling Celtic”Bheasts” and making paedophile remarks everytime a discussion about his clubs history was taking place he became very defensive. I asked him if he was supporting the victims by his statements or trying to keep their story in the public eye? or was he using their pain for his enjoyment? After telling him he’d more in common with the vandals than he realised I was deleted from his friends list. Good riddance I say.

  24. I’v said it before and I’ll say it again, the SMSM, and level5, just love, James Forrest, Phil Mac, the CT, and all the negative Celtic (so called) supporters, I’v been saying it for months, and thems over in the west end of the city being ran by a cabal and they’r supporters backing the club to the hilt, and trusting they’r board, says it all, the malcontents just can’t help it, does James Forrest think he can just write any thing he likes about CFC, and some won’t agree with him? You need to get out more James, maybe even go to a Celtic game, a low blow? Well? You started it.

  25. Sandman. If I am a level 5 plant then it shows remarkable foresight for the, to plant someone on a blog long before level 5 was even thought about.
