Answering tangential digs at Celtic

570

I see Celtic’s name was dragged by the media into what some low-life vandals did outside Ibrox this week – and a few years ago, for good measure.  There are low-life vandals out there, and we don’t have a way to filter them out of the Celtic support, so I‘d not dispute any of the tangential links, but vandalism like this happens all too often without media coverage.

When stories suddenly appear to be so well framed in the newspapers, you have to wonder why?  Or who is behind them?

There’s a big play underway for what, in this context, should be called Supremacy in Scotland.  Celtic have it right now and no one else is strong enough to eclipse them.  The best way to achieve this is to destabilise the club.  It’s worked, but only to an extent.

I read Paul Larkin on Hail Hail Media this morning who raises some interesting questions on what’s going on and what we should do about it, “as a collective, cannot be beaten”.  It’s hard to argue with.

We’ve got two exciting bits of Magners business for you today………..

First, if you want to win two Premium Seat tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Sunday’s potential league winning game against Aberdeen, courtesy of main club sponsor, Magners, answer this question about our last 9-in-a-row campaign:

Against which team did Celtic win the first of their 9 consecutive titles, in 1966?

It was a famous game, settled by a famous scorer.  Email the team name IN THE SUBJECT LINE of your message, to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Competition closes at 17:00 TODAY, so you only have a few hours…..

And there’s more……  How do you fancy playing on Celtic Park in 12 days’ time?  Go to Facebook and enter this Magners competition to win a place in the end of season 7s tournament.

You get to grace the place that McGrory, Johnstone, Dalglish and Larsson did their stuff.  Do it.

Now I’ve got you in a good mood.  If you’ve a spare £1 in your metaphorical pocket, go stick it into the CQN Mary’s Meals appeal  Those CQN school kitchens in Malawi feed over 2,000 kids each day.  That’s food needed every day………

    Famine Memorial in Glasgow,

Just been notified that contributions have reached £4,629 still short of £5,000 needed to put project out for commission to interested artists.

Surely this is a project that the PLC should be interested in supporting.

No Irish Diaspora with starving children and adults = no need for food tables in St. Mary’s, St. Michael’s, Sacred Heart parishes etc. Therefore, perhaps no Celtic FC. HH

  2. Possibly very late with these issues and questions but the KDS thread on the Forest game at the City Ground touched on the other big crowd control issue of the 80’s — the Janefield Street crush after the mounted police charged the support.

Has anyone took this further with Strathclyde’s finest?

Who was in charge that day?

Who was in charge of the mounted police?

And who gave the order for the charge?

I do appreciate that all this happened over 30 years ago but it needs further publicity.

Has anyone ever been able to identify the police involved, the chain of command or why it happened?

From memory there were pictures that showed the aftermath.

After what we have learned about what the police and authorities will do to protect themselves we need to work every angle to keep them fully scrutinised.

Apologies if this is old hat.

Just wanting to understand what we know about this.

I don’t doubt it – that anyone has been left destitute by indulging in either of the pools or the lottery – but I imagine there are some folk who have a gambling addiction who use one or both impulsively.

They openly encourage others to do likewise.

I just don’t understand how they can consider themselves to be supportive of the team.

To be a supporter you have to provide some kind of helpful support.

I understand if you are impoverished or live too far away that this may not be possible for some.

A number of Celtic fans won a court case against Strathclyde polis and were awarded damages.

Needless to say the polis appealed the decision and our supporters who won the court case were left with hee haw compensation . A terrible decision.

The polis claim the six horses charged as there was trouble at the west end of Janefield Street , which there wasn’t. We were walking along Janefield Street towards the Gallowgate when all of a sudden you could hear the clatter of horse hooves behind us. Everyone scattered , some people getting hurt trying to get out of the way of the polis horses.

They then came back again , going east along Janefield Street.

The polis , like they did with the miners, knew they could do what they wanted and eventually got away with it.

    ALERT ……….. ALERT……… ALERT…….. ALERT…….ALERT……ALERT…..ALERT……ALERT…….ALERT……..ALERT……

I was contacted by text a couple of weeks ago by a strange old man, — OK Malorbhoy — who said he had been talking to others in between ward rounds.

“Someone has come up with an idea!” he said ” That YOU should organise a 50th anniversary trip to Lisbon to celebrate winning the big cup. We could stay in Lisbon or Estoril etc etc etc”.

Now this striles me as a fairly good idea except that it takes a little organising.

The 25th of May 2017 is a Thursday and so anything from a two day trip to a four day trip is more than possible.

Of course before everyone rushes in and says I am in, be aware that any such trip could conceivably clash with the Champion’s League final week and even the Scottish Cup final ….. and let’s face it we are possibly going to be in both of them!! I am an eternal optimist.

So — if this notion is one that you fancy drop me a line at JJoe88@hotmail.co.uk — right now all I am looking for is an idea of numbers and a preference for two days or whatever.

I have mentioned the whole idea to Winning Captains who, as usual, wants to lay on bands, movie stars, folm directors and a four poster bed for ACGR and Anabelle Goldie or whoever his current squeeze is.

We would be flying by ethically approved airlines but I drop short of endorsing or sponsoring alcohol free beverages.

Bad haircuts, 1960’s clothing ( which I know from experience you all still wear ) and poor dancing skills may well be required.

We could even turn it into a kind of mass stag partry for Hamilton Tim?

Who knows what we’ll see and who we might meet. oh?

Ideas and suggestions welcome — jjoe88@hotmail.co.uk.
