Anthony Ralston, Ange and Neil

The beard ages him, but Anthony Ralston will not be 23 until later this month.  He was at Celtic throughout last season, but despite Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed departing in January and Jonjoe Kenny not enjoying great form, Kristoffer Ajer was moved to right back with Anthony missing out.  He played only once, a 0-0 home draw to Livingston in January.  The inference was clear: Anthony was fifth choice right back in an awful Celtic team.

Prior to that he had made 10 starts for Celtic, the first coming in 2017.  19 months younger than Kieran Tierney, comparisons were made – I remember writing that while we clearly did not have the wherewithal to develop a striker, we were able to produce full backs with bags of potential.

He was first choice on loan at St Johnstone until football was curtailed in March last year, then a ponderous year on the sidelines.  Players do not always make it, I assumed Anthony’s progress went into reverse.

What he needs most now is games.  The injury to Greg Taylor that moved Josip Juranovic left provided an opportunity for Anthony to compete at a level he seldom experienced before.  This has brought some impressive goals, crosses and assists that were so lacking from the right last season.

Whatever your objectives for Celtic, developing players has to be part of the mix.  We need to be able to develop the potential Anthony Ralston broke through with into someone who can spend years in the first team, or be sold on for decent compensation.

Fair play to the lad for turning his career around in the space of three months and to Ange for giving him the platform.  Neil will have his own version of events about last season’s absence.  This stuff is always complicated, anyone who thinks different has never been there.  Whatever the reason, it now looks shaky.

    Hey Gents

     

     

    I’m (possibly) taking my 10 and 12 year old Bhoys to the semi final on November 20th but I’ve never taken them anywhere other than CP.

     

     

    Its a while since I was at an ‘away’ game and I wanted some honest opinion on whether our support will stand. In my 25 years of going home and away, we stood at away games and so if the kids can’t see there is no point.

     

    Any views ?

     

     

    Hi mate.check out were both your tickets are for at hampden(celtic/enclosure or debt end.

     

    The enclosure and standside are ok views along the pitch sides.

     

    At both the debt end and Celtic end,the pitch and players can be pretty tiny and distant.the half circle behind the goals only adds to the remoteness.(as you can guess I am no fan of the place.i would have done it diff.As St.Stivs says get the wee man on the chair and as bada says choice of train to mount florida/kings Park is important,its an hours walk from me.

     

    Make sure its a good experience as you’ll know the experience sticks with you at that age.:-)

    Referee sends off Atletico player for something far milder than Halliday’s hack on McGregor, for which he never even had a talking to from Madhun. These are golden opportunities for Celtic to put these clips side by side and start questioning the authorities about it. Just keep shining a light on it, do it repeatedly, and the MIB may just be more reluctant to make these deliberate ‘honest’ mistakes.

    Had a really busy day today.

     

     

    Did a wee bit of painting. (finished off the new family bathroom where new light and expelair had been fitted.

     

     

    Did a huge ironing, all mine.

     

     

    Then did the garden.

     

     

    Cut the grass and removed plants that were well past their best.

     

     

    Edged the lawn, hoed the border.

     

     

    Made the tea for my ghirls.

     

     

    Watched a holiday programme then TGBBO from last night.

     

     

    Just had a wee dram (Bowmore 12)

     

     

    Knackered so away te bed.

     

     

    Wee prayer said for all our friends in need.

    Fascinating.as my first memory was of him managing Panathanaikos vs Ajax at Wembley 71.

     

    Recall reading a post on here years ago,talking of Stein going to see the Hungarians beat England in that famous game.6-3 at Wembley.to study the game tactically and learn from and get his teams to better it.

     

    Our boss was saying he was a humble human to be around.

    From memory NTL, paid them in excess of £20m for media rights, back in the days they sponsored our club and that other club

     

    Celtic refused to sell media rights though

    AN TEARMANN – no worries mate. I watched the whole thing: Not quality finesse, but quality drama.

     

    Ange was a very fit and foraging type of FB; same ethos he has his FBs play; wonder if it was a Ferenc thang?

     

    During game, dapper Puskas sits impassive chewing on bazooka Joe the whole way thru.

     

    The shootout is great!
