Anticipation builds

120

We all thought the title was about to be delivered yesterday, until a late goal at Aberdeen put celebrations on hold.  Celtic can be caught on goal difference.  If we lose our five remaining games by four goals, and Newco win theirs by five goals, we’re done for.  For now, anticipation builds.

It is not clear what games were being played by Brendan Rodgers on Friday, when he told the media that either the players or the manager needs to be changed.  But it was clear he wanted to provoke a reaction in the players, which was there for all to see, for the first half against Kilmarnock on Saturday.

Without Jota or Nicolas Kuhn, and with Greg Taylor back at his best, Celtic got the job done.  Spectacular strikes from Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers grabbed the headlines, but the tap-in from Daizen Maeda was a magnificent team goal, while the fourth from Reo Hatate was almost as good.

Viljami Sinisalo was denied a clean sheet by an excellent effort from Danny Armstong.  We’ll give the Kilmarnock player the credit and not suggest his effort was a wayward cross…..

With the job done by the break, the second half had an end of season look to it until Anthony Ralston dropped the shoulder to create space and score in the final minute of the game.

A word on Kilmarnock.  Celtic struggle when teams press them high up the field.  We struggle to progress the ball out of defence and can be forced into losing possession in our final third.  Kilmarnock did not do this.  They are by a margin the worst team to visit Celtic Park this season.  Their six point lead over St Johnstone looks less secure than it should.

Is that the big fella who nearly threw us into the Green Brigade when we scored against the hun?🤔

  3. We have now played 50 games this season, winning 35, drawing 8 and losing 7. We have scored 138 and conceded 46 (domestically it’s 123-29 and in Europe it was 15-17). We increased our lead at the top and are now 15 points (and 42 goals) clear at the top with 5 games remaining. We just need 1 more point to absolutely secure our 55th league title.

We are also back on track to perhaps set a new record for league goals scored in a SPL season. Celtic already hold the record, 105 goals in season 2003-04. We need another 9 from the 5 remaining games to better that.

  4. Brendan has committed to seeing out next season.

I’ve no doubt that there’ll be elements outside, and sadly, within our support who in the coming weeks will talk of crisis unless an extension is signed.

Yeah – absolutely glued to it!

Might need to work on your goal difference calculations but I’d be well shocked and disappointed if it even came anywhere near that coming into play.

Well done to all on another title and – if I’m not mistaken – 30 consecutive seasons finishing in the top two. Can’t be too many instances of that in the history of the game.

I know that we can say that Kilmarnock are the worst team due to their first half tactics to come to Paradise, but I would like to think that our team blew them away in that first half. We don’t give the team the credit they deserve at times with how good they play. Some of their one touch passing and moving that first half was brilliant. You can only play against what is in front of you and our BHOYS played magnificent. Any half decent manager is going to try and shut up shop 2nd half. I watched the huns game yesterday and than God we have decent human beings in our dugout and in charge of our club. No wonder no one likes them they don’t care, with players turning around and getting involved with the Aberdeen fans when they scored the equalizer. Their wee young boy Curtis is pictured standing onthe dugout leaning over the roof shouting at the fans. No I cannot imagine any of our Bhoys doing that. I watched Alan McGregor in the mid week game try and explain to a sub going on what he was supposed to do, showing him the pictures and

he had a marker in his hand to draw. The fecker didn’t put pen to paper as he probably thought it was color by numbers and he drew a union Jack.

Blessed are the cheesemakers a wise man once said. So glad to be a tim.

    Hail hail.

I giggled at this tongue in cheek comment from Paul .

They gave the same chance of a drowning man with ten ton weight tied to his ankle clutching at a Cork.

However , they did win another trophy on Sunday –

The “we delayed Celtic’s celebrations by a fortnight” cup 🤪

Celts go 15 clear before the split.

    ____________________________________

Incredibly, had our players turned up in the last 2 games against them and last week against SJ, and the corrupt VAR not cost us a point against Hibs, we’d actually be 31 points clear at the split. They’d be on 60 points, with Celtic more than 50% higher on 91 points!!! But I guess no team is perfect, and when there’s no tangible challenge it can be difficult to maintain that competitive edge, on the occasional bad day, when it doesn’t really matter that they’ve dropped points.

As for Paul’s scenario, it’s actually an impossibility. We can’t lose 0-4 at Ipox AND them win the same game 5-0, although with Scottish VAR I wouldn’t rule it out completely!

However, were they to win 6-0 and we to lose 0-2 in all the other games, and they beat us 5-0 at ipox, we’d be equal on points, GD, and goals both scored and conceded. So would it then need a play-off, would they win it on head to head, or would we win it due to having won one game more than them???

That’s a Sunday. If the SPFL allow the Huns to play before us that weekend and run the risk of us winning the league without kicking a ball then Doncaster should be chased. It would be pathetic management of the league.

I figured they’d give us St Mirren at home as the first post-split fixture, the better to close out the title before the Sevco match.

I suppose from Sky’s perspective, they’d want Aberdeen away first up to maximise eyeballs.

  21. IF we clinch the League Title against Dundee Utd, our next League game is against the Huns at Ipox.

I wonder IF the Huns WILL APPLAUD The CHAMPIONS onto the the Ipox Pitch ?

I won’t be holding my breath for that to happen.

Also, the Huns are AWAY from home to St Mirren when we play Dundee Utd, so with the next Hun game at HOME against Celtic, will give Celtic the opportunity to INFLICT a DEFEAT/DRAW on the Huns at Ipox, which would make it SEVEN Hun games at HOME, that the Huns would have FAILED to Win at HOME ?

    LOL

    HH.

  22. Bada… that second set looks far more like it ….but what if we lost at Tannadice 😂😂

  23. while checking out where we won the title for research purposes, it is obvious from reporting and attendances that winning the league was secondary to the scottish cup.

our earliest league wins were only 18 games long, and the league won in february.

one title was won at home against hibs, in front of only 4000.

the cup finasl played the same day had 90,000 beween firdst rangers and third lanark.

  24. I think we experienced Game management on Saturday. For the first quarter we blew Kilmarnock apart with fast high tempo football. For the next 3 quarters we managed the tempo and used game management to see the game out. The Subs added a bit of a spark and one of them scored a last minute goal.

I watched a bit of the Sevco game and thought just how poor both teams were. How they managed to beat us is a mystery to me?

I am hoping for a home game as the first match post split. not hopeful that SPFL will do the right thing
