Anywhere but Warsaw

868

My thought on looking at our potential opponents this morning was ‘Anywhere but Warsaw’.  Our man Zbyszek tells me Legia were awful in the first leg in Warsaw against St Pat’s, where they drew 1-1 courtesy of a late goal, but we’ve been there.  Henrik Larsson & Co. drew 0-0 against St Pat’s at Celtic Park before winning 0-2 in the return leg.  St Patrick’s have a big job ahead if they are to progress.

A trip to Ireland on Champions League qualification duty for the second year running would suit Celtic, especially our Irish-based supporters, but my money is on a more testing trip to Poland; Ronny’s pulse should have quickened on the news.

Zbyszek doesn’t reckon have what it takes to eliminate Celtic. All being equal, that may be the case, but summer football will be unpredictable for both clubs.

I am, of course, being completely disrespectful to KR Reykjavik, who we annihilate next week.

Saltires, big bomber Jackson scored three times for us against the now defunct club. Tom McAdam, prior to Henke, was our top post war scorer against them with six.

That new year’s day game, four of us were in the front row right behind the goal. When our second went in,my pal’s dad was the one who was jumping about the most celebrating. A few weeks later he was slagging us for going to all our games then. I think he was just jealous that he couldn’t go lol

You are bang on about the walk on at the start of the second half at Ibrox in May 1983. The best and most passionate I have heard. The players came out early and all stood watching the Celtic end, part of the Govan Stand, half the enclosure and main stand giving it laldy to walk on. To this day, I still think it inspired the team even more to come back from Sandy Clark’s two flukey goals in the first half.

That season we should have won the treble but unfortunately the game we lost 3 2 to Dundee Utd at Celtic Park played a big part in losing the league.

    Not an option?

It is perhaps worth belabouring the point raised here yesterday about the effect of the Brian Stockbridge share options that suddenly came to light earlier this month.

If the people running RIFC plc today did not know about undeclared share options issued to Stockbridge, then what else do they not know? This is the question troubling the men who are currently trying to find external funding to keep the lights on in Ibrox.

Is anyone else sitting on a stash of secret options?

If so, how many and for how much?

If Graham Wallace does not know, how can he ask investors like Laxey Partners to put in more money to exercise share options if he cannot assure them of how much of the company they will own?

Similarly, not being able to tell new shareholders how much of the company they will get for their money if there is a secret stash of options hiding under the mattress of any of the other characters who were involved in the early days of Sevco Scotland Ltd and RIFC plc. It is for Graham Wallace to persuade prospective investors that there are no trap-doors or booby-traps left behind by his predecessors.

Fortunately, Charles Green was not the type of chap to play legal tricks on his fellow business partners.

So I don’t think there is much to worry about.

An agenda is a list of meeting activities in the order in which they are to be taken up, by beginning with the call to order and ending with adjournment. It usually includes one or more specific items of business to be discussed. It may, but is not required to, include specific times for one or more activities. An agenda may also be called a docket or schedule.

I see Kojo is posting as Jac Smith over on Scotzine. Kojo seems to be trolling more than just this blog with his anti Muslim message. Someone that obsessive needs help with their sweeping generalisations. I am glad the blog keeps this in check. That said, I find no reason for Anthony Stokes or nir biton to use their status as Celtic players to voice their thoughts on the Middle East. I heard nothing from either on the Malaysian plane. Presumably Kojo will be on later with the latest version of propaganda from his Stepps semi detached or wherever he resides.

Kickinthe nakas, my one involvement with EKFC was getting tickets for the game and they were very good to deal with. Took my details then phoned me a few days later to say my tickets could be picked up.

Iain King of the sun was their manager at the time. I e mailed him to say how well I was dealt with and he replied to me saying he appreciated me letting him know about my experience. He stated EKFC wants to get the community involved as much as possible & the staff have been asked to be good with fans and prospective fans.

Despite him writing for the sun, I was grateful to him for the being gracious enough to reply to me.

Cornwall seems to be the perfect antidote to the rubbish that is modren life. Pleased for you all.

On the fitba’, first up, tell me this: How will Celtic benefit from the due course promotion of the Sevco team to the Premiership? What are the hard, measureable benefits? The season book ‘discount’ will go, adding £3M to income. We’ll maybe sell some more season books (to the Old Firmists who ducked out 2 years ago), and fill the stadium for 2 games. Total benefit about £5M, not insignificant, but marginal set against a business income of £75M, the revenue form our development model, and a shot to nothing at the Champions League each year.

In terms of competition for the trophies, particularly the league, it will not impact us in the medium term.

On player trading, we sell players when the market for their wage exceeds our pockets. They are replaced like with like, only the replacement is the early development model, not the finished article.

The issue is not about buying a £12M Wanyama to replace a £12M Wanyama. It’s about maintaining continuity in the squad as players are sold. Ki was replaced by Wanyama. Wanyama was replaced ahead of time by Biton and Rogic. Over to Biton to show up. If he doesn’t there’ll be another along shortly.

We can’t criticise the club for being successful at developing talent into European level performers. And we can’t criticise the club for being unable to pay EPL wages from an SPFL income. You’ll doubtless have seen the deals for Snodgrass and McCormack this summer. We’re not in that market.

It’s just frustrating that we’re continually giving birth to new talent, but never get the chance to see the kids grow up. That’s where we’re at just now, and it won’t change without change to the environment. Even then, the likelihood is that we’ll simply move up the talent ladder and retain the same model.

Our signings are almost exclusively 19-23 years old, with decent first team experience before they sign. Johansen the latest in a long, long list. When Commons goes, we won’t be signing a player with a similar profile. We’ll be singing players with the potential to become. Sammi’s gone because there’s no value in the spend, and little impact on the pitch week to week. We won’t be (and aren’t) crying out for a 29 year old European specialist on £25K per week.

Forster will be sold. That’s a given. Probably this summer, if not the next. Goalkeepers though are a different proposition to outfield players in that their development is much more extended. cf David Marshall as a good example. Craig Gordon is defo a heads up that Leo Fasan is not ready to step up in the likely event that Forster goes this summer.

Van Dijk will be sold, but next summer I reckon if he continues to develop. You’ll get the heads up when we sign a couple of 22 year old central defenders.

And so it goes. How would you change it?

  19. mullet and co 2, Stokes is no angel and has left himself open to criticism and censure in the past but his recent tweet was in response to 4 innocent kids who were murdered whilst playing harmlessly on a beach. Apologies for long response periods, don’t get the chance to get on CQN for long these days.

Your linking of the innocent victims of British miscarriages of justice with the innocent victims of the IRA atrocity in Holland reminds me of Tory politicians who used to take the same stance with the likes of John Hume on Question Time in the 80’s – they deflected and introduced whatabouterry when the British Establishment was criticised.

By your logic, campaigns or statements of support for victims stuck in jail for things they didn’t do should always be tempered and linked to the groups or people of the same nationality who actually did do it – and I can’t agree with that.

I was puzzled by your example of the Australians in Holland – if you are going to make this type of link, then linking the innocent victims of the Guildford & Birmingham bombings – which you’ll be happy to know I condemn unreservedly – would’ve made more sense.

I don’t make any apology for the language you found inflammatory in my criticism of the British establishment and their co-ordinated cover ups over the years.
