Anywhere but Warsaw

868

My thought on looking at our potential opponents this morning was ‘Anywhere but Warsaw’.  Our man Zbyszek tells me Legia were awful in the first leg in Warsaw against St Pat’s, where they drew 1-1 courtesy of a late goal, but we’ve been there.  Henrik Larsson & Co. drew 0-0 against St Pat’s at Celtic Park before winning 0-2 in the return leg.  St Patrick’s have a big job ahead if they are to progress.

A trip to Ireland on Champions League qualification duty for the second year running would suit Celtic, especially our Irish-based supporters, but my money is on a more testing trip to Poland; Ronny’s pulse should have quickened on the news.

Zbyszek doesn’t reckon have what it takes to eliminate Celtic. All being equal, that may be the case, but summer football will be unpredictable for both clubs.

I am, of course, being completely disrespectful to KR Reykjavik, who we annihilate next week.

best part of that goal was Jim Shytes face in the Sky commentary box, just after full time…watch and enjoy.

Best goal in the flesh ?, too many to mention however New Years Day at Tynecastle when McManus sclaffed in that winner took lot of beating for a lot of reasons.

    Good evening all

I see there are certain posters giving the ole google a doing tonight. How are you all this very thundery looking evening. (sorry Jobo, not trying to steal your thunder…er wrong choice of words) :-). Interesting reading some posters choice of songs they love to hear. I played in an Irish Showband in my younger years, yet I have never visited Ireland north or the Republic. Not through choice, never had the inkling to do so. Never been to Wales either.

Regarding the favourite songs, I have done all the usual repertoire, but the one song that used to fill my eyes while singing it, The Town I Love So Well. I have no idea what the Town was, but a more beautiful song I believe has yet to be written. Even thinking about the words now, is bringing the tears back. Just an old romantic me. Oh, the ticket for Murrayfield is still available FOC.

  10. Best goal for me was Macca vs huns at NY 87. Majestic pass from Maestro and great run and cross from Morris. Best part was that I had not eaten for a day and queued hours to get the ticket. Had just enough money to left to get the train back to my parents for xmas(massive feed!). Good old student days when you came out skinny and no debt

  11. Big pierres v airdrie SCF. Not the greatest goal but it meant so much at the time. For Tommy and the Maestro

The clue is in the song – i.e. where Derry and Creggan are mentioned. :-)

That song is by Phil Coulter and about Derry. Great song and gets me emotional, can apply to many towns.

Phil Coulter let himself down by writing pash Eurovision songs(he admits that put food on the table!)

Scorn not His Simplicity is more of a tear jerker and a classic. Luke Kelly version is amazing

Has to be Big Billy’s, as you say. His other against Vojvodina, again from that great dead ball player, Charlie Gallagher, was as good and almost as important.

My favourite goal was Chris Sutton (love that surname) against the tinks at CP in the dying minutes to win the game. Damned if I can remember the year. It comes with old age. :-)

Ryecatcher 19.01, what a moment that was. Who put the cross in, was it Jackie? I was at the rear of the main stand near the Rangers end – I remember all the catering staff going mental, the chefs with their big white hats on…funny what you remember
