Appellate body CEO taking sides

826

So the chief executive of the appellate body awaiting a decision to appeal says, “It’s crucial with league reconstruction being such an important issue for the game that we now draw a line under what’s happened”.

According to the SPL Commission the president of that same appellate body was one of the “directors of Oldco [which]must bear a heavy responsibility” for what happened.

Responsibility, however, is an unnecessary concept for the chief executive of the appellate body, who told the media “It’s not about trying to find scapegoats to take responsibility for what’s happened in the last 12 months.”

Note use of language, those responsible are now “scapegoats”.

Scapegoat, def: A person or group made to bear the blame for others or to suffer in their place.

Let’s not look for scapegoats.  Instead let’s stick to who Lord Nimmo Smith’s Commision blame, “the directors of Oldco”.  Including the appellate body’s president.

The appellate body is unfit as an appellate body and as a football association.  SPL clubs must look for a new playing environment.  Let the SFA and SFL run the grassroots game. They appear to want this anyway and I am sure SPL clubs will flourish when no longer restricted to opposition from Scotland.

re the transfer embargo I think you’re correct. My understanding is that the sanctions went as follows –

    1. Sevco can’t sign anyone for 12 months.

    2. But the 12 months won’t start from ‘today’ but, rather, from 1 September 2012.

    3. This then gave Sevco a few days (in August 2012) to sing players – vital for them as, at that point i’m not sure they had enough players to put a team on the park!

    4. They therefore cannot sign anyone before the next window closes on 31 August 2013.

    5. However, their Big Plan is to give a nod and a wink to any out of contract players that if they bide their time and become ‘free agents’ on 1 September 2013 Sevco will definitely sign them, cross my heart hope to die, etc

    6. So, in summary, they can sign ‘free agents’ from 1 September but can’t sign ‘real’ players until January 2014.

    I think…..

Great post! You understate the debt factor though. At the point of entering into liquidation creditors, including HMRC, totalled £135 million. Part of this is now pending appeal of the FTT decision re the Murray Group. It did and does not include over £100 million written off by MIH to Rangers FC as was, in two separate tranches. This is now held by the Lloyds Bank as equity, but represents only a fraction of MIH debt to the Bank of Scotland, now held by part publicly own Lloyds. Should HMRC prevail the total debt racked up by Murray/Rangers is heading towards £240 million, for which taxpayers get a non-voting share in MIH. Just what every football supporter in Scotland always dreamed of.

    Great post.

But they’ll be signing players by the end of the year. The people in control of the present SPL wanted the new/old club to stay. I can’t see them halting any ‘new system’ which allows their inclusion. If they get near the SPL v2.0 then I expect a financial investment to bolster their league aspirations. They will revert to type. Gamble. But the odds are forever in their favour (To steal a good line). We have the unalienable position of trying unearth Wanyamas and Hoopers in an ever savvy environment with the cold prospect of having to sell them.

I wish I could share your certainty and your optimism. Right now I can’t. And history is being written incorrectly at the moment.

Fifa and UEFA don’t care and more importantly don’t want involved – they allow blatant racist displays to occur every week all over Europe and do little about it.

They’ll let the RFA and the RPL and the RFL to carry on. Unsurpassed.

Yes, I agree and posted as such within hours of the LNS announcement.

LNS and his decision, was just another mini milestone in the continuing story of Glasgow Celtic, and the granting of a Division 3 licence to Sevco 5088 was much, much more significant. Celtic men, to a man although disappointed by the injustice and inequality of punishment against crime, will remain by and large unaffected in their support of Celtic.

Celtic are, and always every time we take the field, the epitomy of the fight against establishment corruption, and I didn’t need LNS to remind me that Scottish Football is corrupt.

Personally I hope no matter what they do, will ever affect my active participation in the joy of Celtic.

After all that’s gone on with generic Rangers it will be sickening to the stomach if as a support we do nothing and let go the first opportunity in decades for real change.

If we do nothing they will be back as Rangers Mk2 an even nastier reincarnation of the previous lot. They have a lot more hate for us and the SPL than ever before and will make it known the minute they step out for their first SPL game.

Mark my words they will mock us and let us know they won and we lost, whoever said cheats never prosper certainly never lived in Scotland.

I went through the 9 in a row years like many a poster on here and took their financial superior mockery on the chin. I had no choice they were richer than us then but of course we all know why now.

For me personally I can’t see how CFC and other SPL clubs can come out and take this on right now unless the fans make the first moves just like when fan power put newco in the 3rd div.

Behind the fans the clubs can then make a contribution that’s how Sevco did it and it worked a treat for them. Bolstered by their “world record attendances” their leaders had plenty to say. Without their fans they would have sounded like toothless moaners plenty of shout and no clout.

CFC and the other SPL clubs will have difficulty getting change on their own they are not political they are merely sporting businesses only the fans their stakeholders the people can bring change

It’s the way of the world that’s why we have elections and sometimes revolutions

There are alternatives we do not have to take this sitting down whether we have the appetite for noble battle is another thing but doing nothing will not be a noble alternative.

At least if we make our thoughts known in the public forum we can say we tried which is better than saying to our future kith and kin we did nothing and just meekly moved on when asked to.

We have always know we were being cheated, on and off the park.

We now have definitive proof this is the case.

I tend to agree with the posters who reckon we have nothing to lose, and everything to gain by standing up against the corruption.

I agree that by turning our back on the club is what they are dreaming of, we will be the weaker for it, and they will be the stronger……but many are deciding to turn their backs, many will not renew their season books.

The club have nothing to lose and everything to gain by standing up for justice and integrity.

your earlier post was pretty sobering as it confirmed what I and others on here are experiencing. There is a drift away from attending games and we seem to be heading for the hard core of the 80’s and 90’s except for particular games that catch the imagination. I really hope we try everything we know to curtail this but events like LNS seem to accelerate the drift away…and it’s hard to say stay and fight. However that is my nature and as a club we are doing well despite the ‘shenanigans’ of the authorities. I’ll dig in and so will many others.

No matter what we say they are attending in big numbers and it’s to do with the fact they have a cause again. That and free tickets and reduced prices but for God’s sake they are turning up to watch drivel, compare that with us. It’s time to support our club or the bigots at Hampden etc will really have won.

“The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them… To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing in them, to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just as long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary. Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.”

    George Orwell 1984.

Is there a better description of the attitude of the SFA, MSM and all things zombie than Orwell’s doublethink? The new club/old club reporting since administration now the guilty/ vindicated attitude. Now everyone is concerned about moving on for the sake of Scottish football. Even Provan today was advocating getting them back asap. The club that moved Scotland away from developing youth to the curse of overspending until many clubs, especially itself, are now in dire straits, now deserves our sympathy. The club that was so driven by greed for glory, that when it looked to be going wrong in the face of MON’s team turned to cheating and deception on a massive scale, now deserves our forgiveness. The club found guilty of their crimes should be allow the portray misguided idea of justice as a victory for common sense. There are even reports stating how the LNS refusal to strip titles and trophies was the best thing for Scotland as it prevented riots, written without a word of irony that appeasing the mob was the best policy.

  28. Tuesday 3rd

I’m feeling exceptionally well today. (It’s only the third day, I know, but all the same I’m feeling great.) I had a visit this morning with two reporters, David Beresford of The Guardian and Brendan O Cathaoir of The Irish Times. Couldn’t quite get my flow of thoughts together. I could have said more in a better fashion.

    63 kgs today, so what?

A priest was in. Feel he’s weighing me up psychologically for a later date. If I’m wrong I’m sorry — but I think he is. So I tried to defuse any notion of that tonight. I think he may have taken the point. But whether he accepts it, will be seen. He could not defend my onslaught on Bishop Daly — or at least he did not try.

I wrote some notes to my mother and to Mary Doyle in Armagh; and will write more tomorrow. The boys are now all washed. But I didn’t get washed today. They were still trying to get men their first wash.

I smoked some ‘bog-rolled blows’ today, the luxury of the Block!

They put a table in my cell and are now placing my food on it in front of my eyes. I honestly couldn’t give a damn if they placed it on my knee. They still keep asking me silly questions like, ‘Are you still not eating?’

I never got started on my poem today, but I’ll maybe do it tomorrow. The trouble is I now have more ideas.

Got papers and a book today. The book was Kipling’s Short Stories with an introduction of some length by W. Somerset Maugham. I took an instant dislike to the latter on reading his comment on the Irish people during Kipling’s prime as a writer: ‘It is true that the Irish were making a nuisance of themselves.’ Damned too bad, I thought, and bigger the pity it wasn’t a bigger nuisance! Kipling I know of, and his Ulster connection. I’ll read his stories tomorrow.

Ag rá an phaidrín faoi dhó achan lá atá na buachaillí anois. Níl aon rud eile agam anocht. Sin sin. (Translated this reads as follows: The boys are now saying the rosary twice every day. I have nothing else tonight. That’s all.)
