Appetite, Callum, Gerrard sounding like Gloria Gaynor

381

Ahead of the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hibs we discussed our exit at the same stage in 2014 and how that despite the procession towards the league title, it hollowed out the remainder of the season.  Match day lost its edge and even a record 29-point winning margin could not compensate.

With a secure-looking 8-point lead in the league, the champions have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to.  Only a point separates Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, while Hearts are just three adrift of Killie.  It is Newco who look abandoned, out of the Cup and with an 8-point gap above and below them.

You know a manager is struggling when he beings to sound like Gloria Gaynor, “I will improve”, was what Steven Gerrard told reporters after facing up to the prospect of a season which promises no more than a second place finish.   Of course he will improve, it is hardly credible to suggest his managerial knowledge and experience will diminish from this point.

Maybe he will get £20m to spend in the summer and be able to beat Aberdeen comfortably in the cups.

Celtic visit Dundee on Sunday, a team with more motivation than any side from Glasgow.  They are in the play-off spot, one point above automatic relegation and three from catching Hamilton and safety.  Celtic are vastly better than Dundee in every department, but we will have to match them in appetite or suffer the consequences.

Neil Lennon suggested Callum McGregor may feature on Sunday.  Our creative resources have been severely depleted with the absence of Callum, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  The latter two may be back for the semi-final, but we will need Callum fit and ready for games before then.

10 points clear would round off a good league weekend.

    GFTB @ 1:39 AM,

“Kris Commons asked if he was disappointed in Brendan Rodgers leaving ,,,, his answer “why should I be disappointed we have a real Celtic fan in charge now”

Interesting mind-set from Kris… Wonder if thats the reason he was so recalcitrant and disruptive with Mr Delia – Maybe he didn’t see Ronny as a Celtic Fan…

Really please Steven Gerrard’s Sevco Rangers dropped some points yesterday… Lenny was dropped into a cauldron and now has a wee bit of space to work with.

Should be a tough game in Dundee but quality should once again prevail. Will be interesting to see the team selection… as an adulator of Calmac, would be good to see him getting game time…

    Hail Hail

  5. Happy St.Patrick’s Day everyone.

The desperation to put positive spin on anything Sevco related has been taken to new levels by Sky Sports News.

First of all, “Rangers cut gap with leaders Celtic to seven points”

If that wasn’t enough they follow it up with this…

“Rangers extend unbeaten league run to eight games after draw at Ibrox”

No mention of the fact that they’ve only taken 2 points from their last 6 available, no wins in 4 and after starting 2019 on the same points as Celtic now face a double digit deficit should Lenny and the Bhoys do the business today. I love their pain.

How about this for a stat: *Rangers* have played 15 games this season against Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Hibernian……..they have won 3 of them.

  6. If all it took to be a great Celtic manager was to prove you are a Celtic fan, then we are truly blessed to have a massive pool to pick from . Problem is we would have to have excluded Jock Stein and Martin O’Neil from any shortlist. On to Dundee, 3 points and a good performance before the numbness of international football takes over. HH

  7. Huntlybhoy86– and they will have to play these teams after split as wel???

  8. Hebcelt – Happy belated birthday ??, hope the bhoys give you a good day in the sun.

  9. While in his temporary care there are many things that Neil can do for the Club.

The relatively simple fact of his arrival has already worked out as good as most of us might have expected.

A degree of familiar continuity and solidity. We know what we’re getting, to a degree.

As we contemplate the survivalist motivations of our Dundonian opponents he has done his bit and today the focus turns to the players and their motivations.

The ball is at their feet and 10 points clear is the goal.

I would recommend a visit to San Pedro ( de Alcantara). I think it is a smashing wee place.

A pub named The Emerald ( In Cortijo Blanco just before San Pedro) will probablyshow the Celtic game today.

Not my favourite pub but OK.

    Gym calls,

    Cheerio for now.

Jock Stein was brought up in a true blue family, but he was already a Celtic man by the time he became our manager.

  12. Cosy Corner Bhoy on

Happy St Patrick’s Day to one and all.

Once again an opportunity to put our foot on the throat of Der Hun has arisen. This time we mustn’t slip up.If the Govan Works X1 come to Celtic Park in a fortnight’s time 10 points behind it could be a lovely Mother’s Day as well?

  13. Chairnhoy & J mccormick

My post about a Celtic fan in charge was just what Kris Commons commented, by the way Kris has always been complimentary about BR as a manager think I was pointing out that our previous manager wasn’t as big a fan as he made out …. BUT twist it whatever way suits as it is a blog and we all write & read differently :-)

Not sure what poor Ronny D had to do with it although out of the three managers at least he provided the same number of titles as Neil’s predecessor…. enjoy your St Patrick’s day and hopefully Neil gets 3pts today in his quest for his 4th title out of hopefully 8@row

  14. GFTB @ 8:53 AM,

My post was in no way intended to be disparaging to your good self… maybe a wee smiley thing would have helped:))

Yes Brendan Rodgers did lay his Celtic connections on thick on arrival but not as much as some fholk suggest.

Read last week someone saying BR had never set foot in Celtic Park before… Of course this was something he, himself stated at the start of his tenure…

My point really was that there are some fholk who could give lectures of Celtic loyalty… fact is few of the true do…

Of course Kris Commons isn’t one of them…

    Have A Champion Paddys day…

    Hail Hail

  15. Chairbhoy 9.05am

When I post (especially) in the early hours it’s usually written as if others know what I mean :-)

Half the time I don’t even know what I mean …. the main thing is 3pts today going into the international break am sure we all understand and want that

  16. In ither news…………..

Huns go goal doon at their ain midden, only scrape an edgy draw against STEVE CLARKE’s Kilmarnock……

and thurs no’ reports of UGLY chanting or SECTARIAN oootbursts………no’ even some UNACCEPTABLE behaviour from embdy?????????

    Now, that is hunbelievable.

    HHH.

  17. Well Bhoys hope your Saturday in Glasgow wasn’t ruined by the massive demonstration at the BBC headquarters. Glad the weather was on our side.

Get 3 points today with a wee rendition of “Hail Glorious St. Patrick” to round of a fine week.

Hail Hail and Happy St. Patricks day all the Celtic Family

  18. Seethen Gerrard and his astonishing afternoon shambles at Sevco.

Unable to beat Kilmarnock over 95 minutes the clueless under 18 coach decides to turn on the referee, without seeing two red card offences that went unpunished, makes a change from finger pointing at the duds, he signed.

One of these incidents is now on film and in the public domain given one of the offenders has already accrued 4 red cards for violent conduct, the consequences are dire for their main threat. The token yellow for the Connor Goldstone ‘wipeout’, should also be with the compliance officer, but you know there is a difficult away game, on the Sevc horizon.

They have both of their star players under the microscope that changes hue to blue, Rainjurz TV have the video locked away I’m sure, we are about to see how the compliance officer system in the Scottish game is as broken as the game itself.

  19. BSR 10.25am

“Unable to beat Kilmarnock over 95 minutes”

Am sure Seethin has been unable to beat Killie in his managerial career :-)

  20. Maybe I shouod have added Wee Wim Ten Stopper to the list? Doesn’t matter, what matters today is 10 points clear . No daft injuries and let the bhoys settle it all at the month end.

No doubt Stevie G will have an anxious wait whilst his staff are away on international duty too? What do you think…HH
