Appetites wetted, consequence of intimidation

608

For some, short holidays are over. Batteries recharged, appetites wetted. The international break is not the period of worldwide travel and mockery it is for others. If you think you are champing at the bit to get to Celtic Park on Saturday, Scott Brown and Kolo Toure could probably sprint there from Lennoxtown right now.

For others it will be a chance to put disappointments behind them. A few (well, maybe just Moussa) will return having achieved new heights for their country. As ever, Tom Rogic will pitch with jetlag having played in two continents in the last six days.

You know they will all want to see and impress Brendan. This is the way of it at Lennoxtown right now. They are bursting a gut at training to get into the team. Be alarmed, Motherwell.

You know when your PR is on nationwide TV, intemperate and pointy, that you are in special hands. Asking the same question four different ways lacks courtesy (and a whole lot more), but PR can’t let the journo leave knowing he’s got what he wanted from the encounter. I’m no PR expert, but you know when you see someone mis-control a proverbial back pass.

Still angry at that newspaper’s attack on Celtic yesterday. I didn’t buy it, so didn’t realise at the time they printed Peter Lawwell’s home address. You know what you are doing when you publish someone’s home address.  It rarely happens because the consequences are so uncontrollable.

It’s one of the most insidious acts legally possible by a newspaper. It has an immediate consequence of intimidation for the family – that’s a given when you make the decision to print something several hundred thousand times.  Utterly deplorable.  We are back in the era where attacks were incited on Neil Lennon.

Apologies for issues accessing the blog recently.  I’m on the case.

  1. PETEC, I don’t doubt that Ernie is a knowledgeable guy and good company. I can’t comment as I have never (knowingly) met him. I suspect that he is also a nice fella.

That makes it more surprising and disappointing that he is so quick to judge other people. Knowledge, and intelligence applied to that knowledge should, I believe, lead to an informed opinion. My feeling is that Ernie’s opinion was badly informed and inappropriate when making that statement about peter Lawwell.

Anyway, keep up the good fight!

Was he involved in a failed tax avoidance scheme? Yes or no.

So is the Party Line now that Peter Lawwell wasn’t involved in a failed tax avoidance scheme?

Or is it that the failed tax avoidance scheme is really no different to an ISA?

    ___________________________________________________

Ernie, it’s not a party line, but opinions.

The LLP’s were, when they were utilised, an acceptable way of reducing tax liability.

And yes, any legal method of reducing tax liability is no different to an ISA; or paying a large sum into a pension; or taking a reduced salary and increased dividend as a shareholder and Company Director.

Peter Lawwell and other partners in the LLP’s did nothing illegal, immoral or underhand when they became involved. they followed financial advice from reputable companies.

Once HMRC retrospectively declared that tax was liable for the income element of the LLP the monies and interest became due. Anyone who was informed of a tax liability and paid it has fulfilled their legal and moral obligation.

That’s why I don’t see any difference in your view and the Daily Record’s view; unless, of course, you can explain the difference to me.

Souness couldn’t lace any Brazilian from 1970’s boots. I remember an old fellow with a passion for Italian fitba that stated he was a player but never in the Liam Brady class.

The Record article tried to smear our club as guilty of tax fraud due to involvement by some employees in an ill-advised scheme to reduce their tax payments.

The comparison was as obvious as it was odious, that Rangers were at it,and so were Celtic.

No explanation as to the ENTIRE innocence of the club was made, nor that the employees were playing with their own money as awarded to them, net of ALL appropriate social taxes,by the club.

Indeed, they went further by stating that it was a £434m illegal scheme, suggesting to the hard of understanding that this was all down to them!

You’re too intelligent to be taken in by this, yet still love the snide sideswipe snipe.

Why not take aim at the deserving? Yer abusing yer talent by aiming wrongly.

Gianni Rivera was voted The Best Italian Footballer of All Time in media poll thing in 2015 ..

At the Awards Ceremony he said this –

” It is an absolute pleasure to accept this award but please note that I do not agree with a result that ” proves ” that I was twice as good as Totti . That is nonsense , the only thing this proves is that people exaggerate the past and denigrate the present “
