Applying and coping with pressure

It is a trip to Lavtia to play Riga on Thursday in the penultimate Europa League qualification round.  Riga progressed after a home win over Tre Fiori of San Marino this morning.  Last season they were eliminated from Champions League qualification in the first round by Dundalk on penalties, but they went on to beat Piast Gliwice (Poland) and HJK Helsinki, before losing 3-2 to our eventual eliminators, Copenhagen.

If Celtic cannot overcome Riga in a one-off game we have no right to proceed to the playoff round, never mind the group stage, but they will be far tougher than St Mirren.  There is a lot of work to do.

After our fractious start to the season we get a chance to go top of the table tomorrow at home to Livingston.  Livi are second bottom of the table, above Motherwell on goals scored.  Last term they lost only twice at home, so far this season, they have lost the same number from four games, 1-4 to Hibs and 1-2 to Hamilton.  The only ray of sunshine came when they held Newco to a 0-0.  They are vulnerable and know neither of the teams around them: Motherwell and Kilmarnock are likely to be relegated.

Going top of the table on the same games played, would pass the pressure to Newco ahead of their visit to Easter Road on Sunday.  Leagues are won by applying and coping with pressure, attributes these Celtic players have demonstrated they have in abundance.

Here we go, to 10IAR. Still two to do.

Home today, the mission is to win and top the pile,

By watching Glasgow Celtic, putting on the style.

Yes, it’s a funny old game, I hope they keep telling us we are shoite

as we pull further and further ahead.

Think of them jumping out the high flat whindaes when we finally

    hit form.

  3. Good morning, friends, from a bright and cheery East Kilbride.

Just when you thought I couldn’t take Anoraking to a new level I’ve been working away in the background on a new project!

League Season 2020-21 kicked of at 12.30pm on Saturday 1 August 2020. And what must be constantly in their back of our minds is “if the league gets ‘called’ now, who’s top?”. Fear not, I’m on the case, keeping a note every time that top spot changes hands.

So here’s who’s been top during the season so far…

    Saturday August 1st

12.30pm – all teams are equal!

12.51pm – SEVCO score against Aberdeen and are top of the league on 3 points

3.05pm – Boyle scores for HIBS who then JOIN SEVCO as joint leaders

3.06pm – Clark scores for DUNDEE UTD and it’s now a 3-way tie at the top

3.34pm – Boyle scores again for HIBS to put them clear at the top with a 2 goal lead. Although they will later concede a goal but win 2-1, HIBS will stay top of the league on ‘goals scored’.

    Sunday August 2nd

5.01pm – when Frimpong scores for CELTIC to put Celtic 2-1 ahead, CELTIC join HIBS at the top of the league.

5.34pm – a goal from Edouard puts CELTIC clear at the top with a goal difference of 2. That goal difference lead is extended as Celtic run out 5-1 winners.

    Saturday 8th August

3.24pm – HIBS reclaim top spot when they take the lead against Livingston. Eventually winning 4-1 Hibs sit top with 6 points and a goal difference of +4

    Sunday 9th August

4.41pm – Away to Kilmarnock, Christie scores with a free kick meaning CELTIC are back on top.

4.54pm – Celtic concede from a penalty, so HIBS are back at the top.

    Wednesday 12th August

8.30pm – At home to St Johnstone Kent puts SEVCO 2-0 up to go top of the league on goal difference.

    Saturday 15th August

3.29pm – ROSS COUNTY take the lead against Dundee Utd and move on to 10 points.

3.40pm – Dundee Utd equalise against Ross County meaning SEVCO regain top spot.

5.30pm – HIBS kick off against Motherwell and so go top of the league on 10 points, the game finishing 0-0

    Sunday 16th August

4.30pm – SEVCO kick off against Livingston and so go back to the top of the league on goal difference. The game finishes 0-0 so SEVCO stay at the top. That will change today IF we take the lead at any point…….

Minutes at the top (including joint top) since 12.30pm on 1st August (as at 3.00pm on 19th September)

    Sevco – 53162

    Hibs – 9022

    Celtic – 8556

    Dundee Utd – 28

    Ross County – 11

    All others – 0

    To be continued….

Recently bought a caravan in Talacre near Prestatyn – down most weekends at the moment before they ban travel. 😱

  5. Gene

Know the area well, worked with Hamilton oil just outside Rhyl

and had digs in Prestatyn, don’t know how I managed to survive

trying to outdrink those Welsh rugby Bhoys.

  6. Today’s team to smash Livi:

    Regulation 6-0 win.

  7. Good morning cqn from a lovely sunny morning in the Garden of God or the Good’n the Bad as some might know it.

Of course any win will do today, but me being the eternal optimist I am going for4-1 to The Famous Glasgow Celtic.

Waiting patiently to take she who must be obeyed to go clothes shopping for her. We are meant to be going to Haggerston caravan park on Friday and that now looks in doubt.

I am sick of this pish. The uk Government and Scottish Government are total inadequate foooooools.

9 months we have known this virus was coming and the testing is crap, no mass anti body testing, not enough kits…blah de blah.

    It’s actually feckin criminal.

Anywho you can see the optimism and positivity flowing through my post.😂😂😂

Thank feck I have Mr T and Celtic.

Mr T being tennents lager 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

    Hail Hail

  8. Today is the Celtic Foundation virtual food drive.

I can’t do the link I’m afraid but it will be supported as strongly as ever.

  9. GuyFawkes

Gordon and his team from Old Kilpatrick Food Share are doing an incredible job in feeding the folk of Old Kilpatrick and Dalmuir who are living in poverty in these times.

The Holy Spirit is alive in these amazing people. Thousands a week are receiving food parcels to keep them alive.

God bless and support Old Kilpatrick Food Share volunteer team.

    Hear! Hear!

Kaymer crumbled at the death last night to miss the cut by one shot. +4 with five to play, he had two shots to spare but dropped three more to finish +7. 14 held on at +6 to make 63 through to play the weekend. McIntyre one of them.

US Open’s a tough cut top 60 and ties, our Open and the US PGA are top 70 and ties.

  11. Liam McGrandles on from 2pm with Celtic VST today

To assist the foundation food drive

I want some of what DD & Burnley78 are taking, if they believe the current Celtic team would beat the 2003 Seville team

it to 120 minutes of football in 38 degrees to defeat the Celtic Seville team

Imagine Larrson, Hartson and Sutton, facing our current defence 🤒

  12. St Tams

Scott is a good shout, who does he replace in midfield though ?

Bench, to replace Fernandez or Smith

  13. !!BADA BING!!

I had to google Pat Smullen as I don’t know anything about his sport.

But 43 is far too young.

What a tragrdy for his family.

    Rest in peace, Pat.

  14. The Seville team would give the current team 4 or 5. DD sniffing around for a British League no doubt to maximise his share price and then sell to some other wealthy Group for a very nice profit.

  15. Don’t think I’ve looked forward to a league game more than today, in the short days since Wednesday.

Would like to see David Turnbull start anywhere in the side to freshen us up, but don’t think NFL will variate too much from,

    Jullien ( if fit )

Greg Taylor might drop out again allowing MacGregor to try the wing back role, not even the mole knows the line up if he does he’s not above ground.

  16. BSR

Neil made 4 or 5 changes from a team that won 0-5. Will he stick with the side that struggled to a 1-2 win on Wednesday 🤔
