It is a trip to Lavtia to play Riga on Thursday in the penultimate Europa League qualification round. Riga progressed after a home win over Tre Fiori of San Marino this morning. Last season they were eliminated from Champions League qualification in the first round by Dundalk on penalties, but they went on to beat Piast Gliwice (Poland) and HJK Helsinki, before losing 3-2 to our eventual eliminators, Copenhagen.
If Celtic cannot overcome Riga in a one-off game we have no right to proceed to the playoff round, never mind the group stage, but they will be far tougher than St Mirren. There is a lot of work to do.
After our fractious start to the season we get a chance to go top of the table tomorrow at home to Livingston. Livi are second bottom of the table, above Motherwell on goals scored. Last term they lost only twice at home, so far this season, they have lost the same number from four games, 1-4 to Hibs and 1-2 to Hamilton. The only ray of sunshine came when they held Newco to a 0-0. They are vulnerable and know neither of the teams around them: Motherwell and Kilmarnock are likely to be relegated.
Going top of the table on the same games played, would pass the pressure to Newco ahead of their visit to Easter Road on Sunday. Leagues are won by applying and coping with pressure, attributes these Celtic players have demonstrated they have in abundance.

Can anyone help please?
My mother in law, 83, spent the day with a friend on Thursday.
Friend goes home and discovers partner not well with possible covid symptoms.
Short story is he goes for a Covid19 test.
MIL goes into self isolation.
Thankfully the test result was negative.
Does MIL need to continue in self isolation for a further period?
Or do we need to invite her to dinner tomorrow?
Thanks in advance!
I listened to the first part of the Celtic soul podcast with Willie McStay last night. He is part of our scouting network and explained the plan for recruiting players at an early age .
Willie also mentioned that 19 players who have been in our academy system have played in at least one champions league team either for ourselves or another team. Unfortunately , he never named them.
The ones I think who have played at least one champions league game
Paul Caddis v Barca
Anthony Ralston v PSG
John Kennedy
Shaun Maloney
Aiden McGeady
Ross Wallace
Stephen McManus
Darren O’Dea
Liam Miller
Charlie Mulgrew
Kieran Tierney
Andrew Robertson
James Forrest
Calum McGregor
I can’t think of any more.
It would be good if David Turnbull got a run out today.
Norriem
Rangers won a treble against that team.
The Seville run was amazing and was hugely important for me personally but that team had its flaws
I think Forrest, McGregor and Christie would have been a godsend in the squad instead of Maloney, Sylla and the other winger I forget
If the stories are correct, very big if,I would have hoped for more than 15 million for Ajer.
JVR
Stephen thingy from mid 2000s. Left mid
That wee winger I can’t remember from mid 2000s. Always a sub
Beattie?
Guppy

Who wants Ajer for £15m and do they want him as a centre back?
Very limited in that position imo and taking that amount of money for him would fantastic.
I would love to see him in midfield, which is his natural position, before we sell him.
But too many of Lennons faves in those positions so probably no chance.
Take the money!
Coney bhoy , Beattie and Stephen Crainey are good shouts. You may be thinking of Ross Wallace . He’s included in my list.
I wish Willie McStay had named the 19 players .
Tony Watt count as an academy player ?
Davie Turnbull starting?
I dont think he did enough in that ten minutes against Ross County
Can’t believe Jobo Baldies anorak post passed without comment, I found that really funny!
Stephen Crainey
jamie smith
dylan mcgeoch ?
mark burchill ?
St Stivs , unfortunately not. We bought Tony from Airdrie .
I wonder if Tony will ever have any regrets about his career.
the hero of barcelona ………… david marshall ………….. but was that a europa tie.
Think Jamie Smith was in the Seville squad.
I’m with Norrie M. The Seville team would mollicate the present
team.
But then the lions would mollicate them.
What do I know?
H.H. Mick
Duffy 130/1 to score in both halves Ladbrokes…
St Stivs , two possibles also..
I’m trying to think of ex players who came through our academy who played for another club. . Cillian Sheridan when he played for Cypriot team ?
Controversial one. Chris Burke.
Did he play for the original blue meanies in cl. Ss
Steve Guppy didn’t enjoy life in the Glasgow gold fish bowl.
Oldies CSC
Careful what you wish for – Kris Ajer is a wonderful talent and I’m not surprised he’s coveted by European teams as a player who can carry the ball out like he does.
Not bloody and snottery enough for some of our support.
Don’t sell Ajer (and Ollie Ntcham).
Wee Dougie Ross is a linesman at our game and next week too.
I wonder when supporters are allowed back into Celtic Park , will he officiate any games at Celtic Park.
Saint Stivs , Chris Burke that is one right out of the blue if you pardon the pun.

Got that. 8-))))))

Agree. Ajer is already a very good player – the only one who can carry the ball out of defence and cause mayhem as the opposition have to go to him creating space for one of our more attack minded players. And he’s only going to get better.
The only thing about Ajer when he comes out of defence with ball, is he never seems to create anything. More often that not he over hits a pass out the park.
Would bite your hand off if we get £15m
Didn’t take Andy Halliday long to get a job with the beeb…
Ajer takes the ball past the midfield of the opposition something neither McGregor or Brown are doing with any frequency, he wouldnt be the first player i would sell, we need to get the balance of the team right its not ,and when without the ball I dread whats coming next, we have a lot of good players maybe too many similar players and the mix is wrong.

You made me laugh, ya loony!
🍀💚🍀💚
Jobo. Yer mad. And I love it. Keep us updated.
Afternoon all.
Very enjoyable read back of last night’s comments particularly given the title of this thread “Applying and coping with pressure”
SFTB’s post was notable.
Amygdala quick news?
Totally accept that constant negativity can be draining.
This is when data and facts can free you.
Every signing we’ve made in the last four years has, to some degree, contributed to 9IAR and a treble treble ….
… And has put us on the cusp of a quadruple treble and the 10.
The extent of each individual signing’s contribution can’t really be measured but the overall trophy count is incontrovertible.
By contrast, every signing that shabby outfit have made during the same period has delivered no silverware.
None. NADA. Zero. Zilch.
If the hype accompanying signings of 4, 3 and 2 years ago was matched by outcomes they’d be going for their 4th Champions League in a row.
So why should the current hype be given any credence at all?
Going back to how our club is portrayed – once you accept the negativity is a commercial IMPERATIVE for the SMSM to actually survive – it becomes easy to reject it.
And, as a corollary, by rejecting it you accelerate the demise of the source.
Enjoy the game.
Hail hail

Poppyock my good friend. He disrupts the banks of defenders in front of him and commits those out. His final ball is good.
When Ajer breaks out of defence, the running off the ball to receive a pass is poor IMO
JVR
Marcus Fraser played a Europa tie.
That count for a wee mention? 😜😊
