Armageddon-SPL strong at the bottom

788

Dundee are nine points adrift at the bottom of the SPL but made a good fist of it against Celtic last night, after a rocky start.  They held their own for a good 30 minutes either side of the interval.  They are clearly the worst team in the league but they are a pretty decent worst team.  Armageddon-SPL is strong at the bottom end.

You and I know the Celtic support, as a group and to any statistically significant level, are vastly better behaved than any supporters of any other large football club.  This is a source of enormous pride but comes at a cost.  Over 20 years later you will still hear about fruit thrown by one idiot, I do.  This is a good thing.  It means that there has been little to talk about these past 20 years.

When you benefit from the greatest reputation in football you are held to the highest standards.  No one will blame Chelsea fans when we drop the ball.  I’ve heard no reports of damage or injury at Dens last night, but 20 years from now someone will tell you what was said by a representative of Dundee today.  This will be a good thing.

    Definitely.

Made a point of mentioning the riot cops at Ipox at work before the holidays because I had a feeling there would be a wee ‘evening up event’.

    Typical eh?

It is the ethos of Brother Walfrid that we are commemorating, not that of Jack Glass! Oh and by the way, if you have any primary sources as regarding the leaving of Brother Walfrid from Glasgow, then I would certainly appreciate you pointing me in that direction.

  5. I’m sure I read about riot police at the Death Star a wee while ago? All gone quiet on that front…

  6. Worst trouble he has seen in 20 years says Dundee security chief! what an utter clown before you know it fans will be breathalysed before entering the stadium,a load of old horlicks

I read one of your earlier posts and I got the impression that you were at the match. I may have got that wrong, if not here is your chance to assure me that there was no sectarian singing last night, none at all.

  8. Even if the ethos of Br. Walfrid et al in setting up the club has been superseded by the implementation of The Beveridge report, and the club itself hurtling down the road of capitalist self-interest while cynically profiting from the Br. Walfrid ‘brand’, I, and it’s only my opinion, feel it’s important, in the face of the dismantling of the benefits system, to continue as a fan in the steps of Br. Walfrid who I believe to have been in the class of men and women best described as the best of us.

I’m not arguing with anyone’s heartfelt beliefs; I’m just saying how it is for me.

I love looking at Celtic’s History. It’s a great tale, with an unbroken timeline. Generations of people from a common background. Born of struggle, and greatness achieved, with yet more to come.

    Truly, more than a club.

A way of life, of being.

  9. ItaliaBhoy, the rebels malkied the Death Star, although I do understand there’s a refurb (ed – chortle chortle) version of the Death Star with some teething issues amongst the White Supremacists (sorry, Stormtroopers, sorry shipyard heroes).

I think the sequel to The Malkying of the Death Star (a Star War, if you will) could be another box office hit in the near future.

    Celtic mac,

Think you might have to remind yourself of the founding ethos, not the existing ethos which dropped the bits of the founding ethos as and when suited subsequent boards. Very little of that original ethos is left.

Yes I was at the game.

Now will you please answer the question.

What sectarianism was evident amongst the Celtic support last night?

This is now the 3 time I’ve asked you what I would suggest is a fairly simple question.

Whilst the MSM are: scandalised at us not running away with the title (…a dampt disgrace!!!…(c) Shug the Mug), and disgusted with our poor European performance (not a word since the draw), and angry at supporters of all SPL clubs for turning up to games, and deeply p1ssed off with people who know the difference between administration and liquidation, and think that £2M is a hugely successful issue when £10M was asked for, and Jabba appears to ‘working back’ his EBT, and the Chuckster has effectively used mug money to increase his share value from a nominal 1p to 70p…no questions asked, and Chuckie desperately needs the sale of ‘name rights’, despite the vociferous opposition of some decidely dangerous characters who are still very upset about flags, and the identity of Blue Pitch holdings remaining a mystery (impenetrable to the people who brought you the ‘Motherwell Born Billionaire’ (c) Keech ‘Scottish Sport Journalist of the Year’ Jackson), and, and and…

During my rummell through the redtops at Morrisons, I’ve noticed that whatever the story re: us, they always include a SEVCO column…

Oh dear, a few lies from a couple of huns and we are infighting.

It’s how they control us, and I thought we were wise to them by now, wise up bhoys, we are not the enemy.

talking of mental fans going overboard…

I have a pal who is Partick Thistle daft, he is also a bit of a goalkeeper, follows them everywhere. (pre-season friendlies the lot)

Sober, he is the mildest guy you could meet, an auxilluary nurse in fact who is adored by the staff in his hospital.

Drunk – the man is a total liability!

Years ago he was at Firhill and they won promotion. There was a pitch invasion. The bold yin was steamin, ran straight up to Craig Nelson and demanded his jumper. The conversation went something like this..

    Spex – Gies yer jumper!

    CN – Whit?

    Spex- Yer jumper! Gies it!

CN – Naw! Am keepin it, av never won promotion before

Spex- Look mate am your biggest fan, gie me the jumper!

    CN – Eh, Naw!

The maniac flung Nelson to the ground and wrestled it from him!

On the day his team won promotion, he chose to mug his own goalkeeper, in broad daylight, on a park full of onlookers!

It is the founding of our Club that we are commemorating, in the 21st century. We are remembering, as I have said before, the founder, the founding and the foundations. How far we have strayed is a whole other discussion, and one in which I would share your own position. But not now.

Oh and I forgot to mention the continual racial abuse of Efe Ambrose throughout the first half by the home support.

The Setanta Oz broadcast sounded like they were booing Efe whenever he had the ball. Was it a bit more than that? :-(

I’ve supported Celtic for nearly 60 years, home, away, abroad and never once went to a game inebriated.

Nor did I ever sing Irish Rebel Songs.

Nor did I ever sing songs insulting the huns or any political figure.

Nor did I sing songs or about, or slag any Celtic board.

Nor did I ever get into trouble with the police.

With respect that’s a pish poor attempt at avoidance.

You levelled an accusation of sectarianism from the Celtic support last night. I’ve now asked you on 3 occasions to identify what you perceived as sectarian. Three times you’ve refused to answer or have nothing to substantiate your allegation.

    Let’s leave it there.

  24. Hamiltontim

From the perspective of actually being there, was there any evidence of alcohol fuelled irreligious sectarian singing involving some of the Celtic support. Yes or No?
