Armstrong, Convicted Dave, playing with fire

1051

News that we are after a second Dundee United midfield player will prove popular, Stuart Armstrong has been tipped for progress for a couple of years.  He is another Ronny Deila-type player, a strong runner who can get up and down the field.  As usual, I’ll reserve judgement until we sign him, and I’ve had a chance to watch him properly.

You have to admire his balls.  Dave King assertion that a conviction for tax fraud is a “favourable settlement” goes beyond parody.  I’m unsure if some PR flop put those words in his head or if he concocted the notion by himself, but just as you cannot shine a turd, it is impossible to spin an undisputed criminal conviction.  He was convicted of criminal offenses.  If this is your measure of favourable, your standards are truly deplorable.

I fail to see why King even is discussing such matters with the media, unless he’s currying favour with the Daily Record.  These assertions will make no difference whatsoever to the stock market, or any reputable nominated adviser, nor will it hold sway with the SFA.  It is also a futile battleground.  In the event King gains control of newco Rangers, he doesn’t need to be a director to exercise de facto control, Paul Murray has been his man for years.  Mike Ashley is not a director, and he owns less than 9% of the club, but he appears to be able to dictate play quite comfortably.

Without a trace of irony, King told the Record: “The enthusiasm that this board adopts to ‘media management’ and its failure to act in the interest of shareholders and other stakeholders is exactly why they should be jettisoned”.

Trying hard to avoid the merest whiff of media management himself, King then added, “History will judge this board as one of the worst the club has ever had. There is not one individual who puts the club above personal interest.”

There you have it folks, our pal Dave is a man you can trust.

Just as the Newco board didn’t have enough on their plate, interim manager Kenny McDowell tendered his notice, although in true ‘Rangers’ tradition, he’s not going without a pay-off.  It’s an added vote of no confidence the regime could do without.  They now face the embarrassing prospect of allowing an interim to remain in control as a lame duck, or put a second manager on gardening leave.

Mike Ashley’s prospects of a successful turnaround look bleak in the face of such uniform and orchestrated antagonism.  I wonder if he’s the kind of man who takes manipulation lightly?  If not, the manipulators are playing with fire.

  3. Celtic should have made a stand agaiinat sevco and sfa. And nimmo smith at the time..i said then. Give then an inch and they take a mile..back down and they walk over you..they are scum..never forget it…from knuckle draggers to businessmen at top.

  4. BeatBhoy, it was, but I thought they deserved it, the result that is.

As Packy said, a brave linesman would have been needed to give the offside.

I was in Aberdeen today, they are still confident.

They felt it was a great result, clwing back a two goal lead.

I pointed out, that’s true, when against title contenders, when against mid table teams, perhaps not so much.

  6. Things that bothered me this week…

M o N stating rankers were harshly treated and are missed by Celtic and the SPFL.

Police Scotland writing off the £51,000 owed by oldco.

No action taken against rankers by the SPFL, SFA for sectarian singing.

No action taken against rankers by Police Scotland for violent conduct and assault.

Whitewashing the charges of tax evasion and fraud by D K from the Scottish media.

Denial by the apprentice sons of rankers first true blue bears, on the ‘fit and proper’ criteria of D K.

Super rangers radio fm… continually claiming ‘something wrong at Celtic’, when they can’t afford 250,000 for GMS.

Apart from that.. I am so proud to be a Celtic supporter, and so love my Celtic Supporters family.. HAIL HAIL, God bless every one of you.. Mon the Hoops tmorra night.. top o the league again.!!

  7. DD, agreed.

Football on a level playing field, well as close as we are likely to get.

But the games on show are decent, some excellent, many of those not involving us, many are, before mineshafters start joining in:-)

Phil McAveety did play for St.Mirren,Brian Corner(not Horner) went on to play for Fulham.Another couple of guys who played for Scotland schoolboys and All Saints were Brian Gibson(Fulham) and Raymond Lorimer (Dundee United).

Joe McBride junior i am sure went to St.Mungo’s Academy.

I was in the team 2 years above that All Saints team that won the Scottish although i was only a year older.

Brian Corner also played alongside me at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

  11. ConeyBhoy, slightly disagree, Aberdeen aren’t quite that close, yet.

I do think in the next few seasons they may be.

I actually hope they can mount a serious challenge, the transitional year is the best one for them to do so. I just think we will pull away in the coming weeks.

  13. Coneybhoy

I said at the weekend that some of their football v Swansea in the first half was breathtaking, especially with the bonus of deadly finishing.

Certainly different from Jose’s first version of the team.

  14. Zico, we must know each other. I was in the same class as 3 of these guys. Steph Marley was another who had a short spell at Hibs

  15. Doc

The one at Tannadice was ‘brave’ enough to flag Scepovic off, even though a still shot shows his unobstructed view, not only of Scepovic behind the ball when it’s played, but also of the defender between Izzy and the goal, never mind Stefan.

  16. Bearbhoy

  17. Went and watched AFC Fylde (my local side) hump AFC Telford 4-0 in the FA Trophy to ease into the last 16.

Really good quality of football with some stunning goals.

Cost me £10 to get in, Best pie i’ve ever had at a football match (steak and ale) with quality chips, a pint (in the ground) pre-match and another at half time.

    Love real football

  18. Anyway, generally an air of merriment on the blog since ‘Fish Friday’, so, come on Hoops, make sure it’s still like that this time tomorrow night!

  19. To re-cap – some of the The Rangers boards said Chuck was arrested by the French Police.

Someone fed them this dud info.

On publishing this on FF, Dingwall got a threatening letter delivered from Chuck’s lawyers who acted with admirable speed.

Dingwall told the Bears to stop saying Chuck got lifted.

Chuck phones Jim White who legs it over to a nearby hospital where Chuck is a patient.

Chuck then sticks up for Ashley, slags McCoist and King and gets himself back in the limelight – he can’t help himself can he?

They really are taking their support for bigger fools than even they actually are.

  20. Doc @2343,

I agree with most of that except the part in the next few seasons.

Unfortunately for the rest of the Premiership I can see us – once Ronny has his settled 14/15 – leaving them eating our dust and winning the league regularly before the split.

For a competitive viewpoint I sincerely hope im wrong, but I cant see it.

    HAIL! HAIL!

Never a ‘bear’, definitely a ‘Bhoy’, but only with an ‘h’!

Agree about Hazard, he’s a fantastic player.

Expect your letter of resignation on my desk in the morning!

  22. I’m well Zico. JK my initials. My second initial kinda gives away my surname ;). I moved from Springburn in the 80’s out to lovely Livi. My folks still live Balgrayhill.

  23. Stephan is a class striker

Give him the same chance provided to Stuart Sinclair

I think he is a proper striker

  24. Bluegrass

  26. Vmhan,

saw it on FB. its class. as are so many of them that are flying about.

We should really be revelling in all this, because as far as “thems” are concerned, weve never had it sooooo funny! and just as you think it cant get any funnier up steps Chuckles and King.

    Long may it continue.

    Hope you well mate.
