The mood around Celtic Park was a bit sombre when Virgil van Dijk was scouted by Southampton. Virgil looked like he was scared to break a fingernail in the capitulation against Legia Warsaw; we lost out on Champions League qualification, although the player was heading south anyway.
With Stuart Armstrong being measured for a red and white outfit, there is significantly less stress at Celtic. Stuart delivered for Celtic during his three years at the club, but he left unable to command a regular starting place in the team. We are selling a fringe player who has one season left on his contract for a fee which reflects the inflated English transfer market.
Celtic have managed this playing asset very well. Consequently, they have more money available to invest in the team. It is also worth noting that we could have sold the player a year ago, but resisted as Brendan Rodgers did not have back fill. The manager has been preparing for this scenario since. This should be an enjoyable summer for the Celtic support.

Only a Spanish referee would be so biased in this game!

The ref is from Uzbekistan.
Watchin in a bar in Madrid
They split screen to show CR missin a pen… & Spain are strugglin….but I think they suspect it.

He referees like he’s Spanish!
Lawrenson is a complete twat.
Not having a laugh PHILBHOY.
Maybe I should have said potentially world class footballers, however I genuinely believe that both Kieran and Mossua could play for any club on earth and be effective and successful.
They have the ability, no doubt about it.

Another VAR fail for me.
Ref doesn’t give pen to Portugal, VAR ask him to look at it and he changes his mind and awards pen.
It wasn’t a clear and obvious mistake, in my opinion, so VAR should have let it go.

IMO both are a long way from world class and can’t see either getting there playing in Scotland.
Incidentally Portugal starting to play like Porto, rolling about and time wasting.

I think you have to take into account the pre-Bosman era. Ronaldo had to move from Sporting Lisbon in order to win titles. He chose well in going to Man U and Real who were dominant teams in their leagues. Maradona was in the pre-Bosman era but he had to leave Argentinos in order to win one title for Boca, one for Barca and 2 improbable titles and a UEFA cup for Napoli.
Pele stayed with one club for 18 years and to say he only earned 6 titles is a little misleading, even though that is one third of the titles available to him. Brazilian football is organised on a state level, given the size of the country and Santos won 10 of those state titles. They were in a competitive league and, during Pele’s time, the Serie A league was one by Palmeiras on 4 occasions, Cruzeiro, Mineiro, Bahia, Fluminense and Botafogo. It was a hard won league. In that Brazil squad of 1970, Pele had 2 famous and 2 lesser team mates in the 5 man Santos contingent but there were 3 from Cruzeiro (including Tostao) 2 Corinthians (including Rivelino), 2 from Fluminense, Botafogo (Jairzinho) and Palmeiras.
He was a loyal one club man- I discount the showbiz US league to which he retired- and his club set a never repeated 5 titles in a row, playing for Santos who are not the most successful club in Brazilian football history.
I think his achievements, outwith the field of goal scoring, testify to his greatness but the bigger weight of evidence is the adoration of his contemporaries. Growing up in Glasgow, sporting excellence for me was defined by the holy trinity of Muhammad Ali, Pele and Ed Moses.
i will defend my corner on this one :-)
PHILBHOY – They won’t be recognised as being world class whilst playing in Scotland, doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t world class.
Same as Virgil wasn’t given the recognition, even though we all knew that we were watching a genuinely brilliant footballer.
Put it another way – Kieran Tierney and Moussa Demble are two of the best young footballers in the world at this moment in time.

I still don’t agree with you!
Two of the best young footballers in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who are you comparing them with?
Ask UEFA if you don’t believe me :

If England had Iran and Morocco instead of Tunisia and Panama , they would be lucky to get out the group…
Lovely goal Morrocco. 2-1.

Neither you or UEFA will convince me.
ronaldo is weird looking
So Portugal are set to play Russia in the last 16 and all of a sudden the VAR’s are looking at possible red card offences against Ronaldo. Hmm.

If true, I love Franco Baresi loads more tonight. I loved how great a tackler with his arse he was. My late father commented that Baresi had an extendable big toe, like oor Lisbon Lion John Clark had.

I’m not trying to convince anyone PHILBHOY, merely stating a fact.
Tierney and Demble would absolutely thrive in a team such as Real Madrid, alongside other world class footballers.
KT is the best left back since Roberto Carlos.
Moussa scores regularly in the CL, whilst playing for a Scottish club.

They’ll be breaking for adverts next. Too many stoppages.
Never a penalty Iran. VAR disaster.
Philbhoy I tend to agree with 16 Roads. KT and Moussa would be welcomed by most clubs in the world!

2-2. Great entertainment.
