Artur, Fraser, Craig and Wee Woodsy

I watched Fraser Forster (29) deny Liverpool on Sunday with a series of impressive saves, one of which from the penalty spot. The big keeper improved enormously in his four years at Celtic. Another FA Premier League ‘keeper, Artur Boruc (37), spent five years at Celtic, a period which was marked with some vagaries in form.

Boruc arrived as the best keeper we had seen in decades, but two seasons in a mooted moved to Bayern Munich (who travelled to Glasgow to see him) were off the agenda. Boruc’s form had dived and he was no longer considered in the elite category.

Craig Gordon (34) was an excellent keeper under Ronny Deila but when Brendan Rodgers arrived a weakness became evident in Craig’s game: he wasn’t comfortable with Brendan’s passing game, which required keepers to be good with their feet.

Craig was dropped and didn’t make the start of the Champions League campaign, but eight months on he looks like he was born to play this way. The transformation in form has been remarkable.

Stevie Woods worked with all three keepers. He was the formative influence on Fraser, he rescued Artur from ignominious decline and with Craig Gordon he took a senior keeper and transformed his game.

We’ll talk later about Brendan Rodger’s striking ability to improve players, but there can scarcely be a goalkeeper coach in Britain with a more impressive track record in this regard than “Wee Woodsy”.

I’ve read your email from this morning mate, very very depressing.

I’ve just watched the Labour Campaign Launch on BBC2. ( don’t mention LAUNCH in the presence of Kenny Miller ! ) . Corbyn spoke very well, as I would expect.

he has one Hell of a fight on his hands, and I wish him well.

Theresa Mays hubby is a dead ringer for that little numpty ” Arthur Askey”…the so called former “Comedian” ??????? I always hated that wee Chump.

As funny as a boot in the Kelvin Halls from Big Jozo…..depending of course whom Big Jozo was actually “Booting” !

Still think Artur,at the top of his game,is the best i’ve watched for us but Craig has adjusted brilliantly this season.Well done wee Woodsy.

  3. VFR800,

I assume you didn’t see my post from earlier this morn ?

Did you get to speak to the elusive John Paul Taylor ?

    If not…it’s okay ?

  4. “ They seek him here, they seek him there

    Those Frenchies seek him everywhere

Is he in heaven or is he in hell?

    That damned elusive Pimpernel ”

  5. VFR800,

Can you email THAI TIM for me IF he has changed his email address since December last year, and ask him to email me asap ?

BIG JIMMY, I’ve spoken to JPT and am waiting on him coming back to me. BMCUWP may be your best bet for THAI TIM’s email address as I don’t have it.

  7. This guy McGill at the Craig Whyte trial doesn’t have much of a memory…………

I don’t recall seems to be his go to answer, lying torag………

Short and sweet article on possibly our most talented footballer since The Glory Days, from possibly one of our most under-appreciated players.

Btw,Lubo wasn’t just a naturally-gifted Gift From God. He wasn’t born with two feet which wanted to play football.

If you look at his early videos,he was all right foot.

He worked and worked. And before too long,no-one could tell which foot was his best.

Cantona adored him,but Zidane worshipped him-good enough for me!

Seems to boiling up quite nicely at The High Court; it seems that Rangers (IL) and Murray Group both knew that Craig Whyte was getting £15M from Ticketus. McGill had also sent a note saying Whyte would be mad not to look at Ticketus for funding, though he insists he meant working capital.

Findlay is ripping McGill a good one in the Whyte trial

    Good to see

Think Findlay has a big chip on his shoulder and is enjoying

    making them all sqirm

Mcgill has selective memory at best or no memory when the questions get difficult

What I find interesting, illuminating, is that the witness cannot recall the personally damaging major issues, but has no problem recalling the diametrical minor, inane, points, that don’t show him – nor his masters – as Machiavellian apprentices.

  13. A Stor Mha Chroi on

I get the impression Findlay is not a Machiavellian apprentice, can’t quite put my finger on why so, but I get the feeling that Findlay graduated with honours from the Machiavellian University studying Character Crucifixion.

The witness might now be in the thunder box having a bowel movement for the brotherhood.

  15. SFTB: just caught up with blog news having failed to read it for two days. Sorry to hear of the ,loss of your mother. It is one of the most difficult things to live through in life. You, your blessed mother and your brother will be in my prayers. Thanks for sharing your feelings about your mother. As others have said, it was deeply moving.

  16. Ahhh, wee woodsy….a Dunblane Legend… tales that can be retold on the blog…….lol.

He was also the last person to vote in my polling station at the European Referendum. Full Celtic training gear on…..

  17. 19 years ago today.

My greatest moments watching the Hoops.

A decade of angst wiped away.

Henrik’s 3rd minute screamer put the dream within grasp, agonisingly so. And then Brattback. And an entire stadium floated through the last fifteen minutes on waves of joy unsurpassed.

Afterwards, kissing the pitch, dancing around the holy turf. Beyond that, vagueness; something to do with beer and glory, but no pain.

Thank you, Fergus, thank you Wim and those witten-off Bhoys.

Findlay notes that there is no value to a football stadium unless you have a team playing there

Findlay definitely went up in my estimations

he is not holding back at all

Goal of the season pass map:

It’s interesting to note that passes 14 to 22 were first touch passes taking the ball from the left side at the halfway line, across to the right wing and then into the left hand side of their penalty box. Fantastic passing and movement from the whole team. Lustig had more touches than anyone else with 5!
