Artur, Fraser, Craig and Wee Woodsy

390

I watched Fraser Forster (29) deny Liverpool on Sunday with a series of impressive saves, one of which from the penalty spot. The big keeper improved enormously in his four years at Celtic. Another FA Premier League ‘keeper, Artur Boruc (37), spent five years at Celtic, a period which was marked with some vagaries in form.

Boruc arrived as the best keeper we had seen in decades, but two seasons in a mooted moved to Bayern Munich (who travelled to Glasgow to see him) were off the agenda. Boruc’s form had dived and he was no longer considered in the elite category.

Craig Gordon (34) was an excellent keeper under Ronny Deila but when Brendan Rodgers arrived a weakness became evident in Craig’s game: he wasn’t comfortable with Brendan’s passing game, which required keepers to be good with their feet.

Craig was dropped and didn’t make the start of the Champions League campaign, but eight months on he looks like he was born to play this way. The transformation in form has been remarkable.

Stevie Woods worked with all three keepers. He was the formative influence on Fraser, he rescued Artur from ignominious decline and with Craig Gordon he took a senior keeper and transformed his game.

We’ll talk later about Brendan Rodger’s striking ability to improve players, but there can scarcely be a goalkeeper coach in Britain with a more impressive track record in this regard than “Wee Woodsy”.

Aye, but there were “many” clubs after him. Most of which would probably be a better choice for career development than Chelsea.

I don’t know if Southampton were interested, but if they were then it would be a no brainer…

I didn’t know there was a hoohah about the boy, but him going shows that he thought he had no future at Sevco.

Exactly. There’s a piece in this week’s Celtic view about it. Chris McCart has a new look:

Considering their position in the table….not worth every penny.

  8. Murray Park conveyer belt seems much more like a sausage factory. Or mibbe a dumpling plant…

  9. Aberdeen are lining up a move for Shaun Maloney? This can’t be allowed to happen. I will not stand for it.

This would reduce the amount of enjoyment I get out of skelping them a teensy bit. And a teensy bit is too much of a bit in this regard.

Billy Gilmour. Sevco’s most wonderfulest, bestest yoof player ever.

  14. So if Gilmour goes for £500,000

Pedro will have the money needed for his 1 million pound player

Well as long as selling club accept half now half later pay plan.

Regardless of what ultimately comes of all of the disclosure (and I will confess to having my doubts that anything substantive will), I will admit that I am ‘astounded of forehead’ that this prosecution was pursued/allowed to go forward, when everyone involved must have known how much dirty laundry would be aired in public.

do they not understand/realize how bad they all look from this? or do they simply not care?

  16. David

Thanks……never heard of him ! If Chelsea consider him worthy of signing, though, I would assume he has very real potential. Could I also assume our Media have been singing his praises ?

    JJ

  17. Hot Smoked

You could very well assume that and be correct. During the Youth Cup Final, the commentators mentioned his name so much that I was almost certain that ‘Billy Gilmour’ was actually a verb, adjective and noun as well as a proper noun.

  18. MiT

    I would go with `not care`.

From the snippets I have seen on Reporting Scotland ( The main BBC News programme in Scotland ) they have a right not to care. It has been mentioned but hardly in any damning way.

I`ll give the (BBC) the benefit of the doubt for the moment and say that, like Celtic, apparently, they are holding fire until the case is over.

1 watched carefully in the development and U17s final the sevco wonderkid.

In both he looked physically weak and not ready for either level.

In 17s he had one good moment to set up goal but the rest of time his tactic was to fall down and get a foul.

In the development game he was so out of his d path and subbed at half time.

If he can get the money now he is wise to take it.

I kind of wished he stayed with Huns as new messiah so we could watch how ridiculous the hype is.

  22. Craig Whyte Trial.

Far be it from me to attempt to tell Donald Findlay QC how to do his job BUT………….

In order to save everyones time including The Court, and possible taxpayers money, would Findlay not have been better off just simply asking the following questions to messrs Murray, McGill and any other Hun participant that is still to be questioned the following……….

    1) Did you knowingly and wittingly CONCEAL/Deliberately FAIL TO DISCLOSE any information that my client Mr Whyte was ( as the Buyer), legally entitled to be made aware BEFORE any Sale was finalised ?

    2) IF “Yes”…did this deliberate concealment take the form of verbal and/or by way of letters/emails to other individuals employed at the club, and also including employees of the Bank of Scotland ?

    3) Are you aware of ANY other Club directors and/or club employees deliberately FAILING and taking decisions NOT to make my client Mr Whyte fully aware of ALL possible and accepted/known debt issues, PRIOR to my client purchasing said club ?

    4) Did you contribute/participate, and/or otherwise be aware of a possible ” Cover Up” from ANYONE involved in the sale of said club to my client Mr Whyte ?

    5) Were you made aware by ANY Director/ owner/employee of said club and/or any employee from the Bank of Scotland, who were either directly and/or indirectly involved in the sale of said club, that “Instructions” were issued to keep certain information/liabilities SECRET from my client Mr Whyte, PRIOR to, DURING and/or AFTER the sale of said club ?

Perhaps those 5 ( I like the number FIVE) questions, if asked from the outset of this Trial, may have proved not only productive in getting to the truth, but possibly to speed matters up somewhat ?

    What do I know ?
