As predicted, things got worse

568

On Friday, after the Sparta debacle, I predicted, “There is worse to come”, it did not take long.  Losing at home by two goals to Ross County is worse than losing by three goals away to Sparta Prague.  If you were surprised, you have not been paying attention, Ross County were a punter’s dream.  Celtic are dysfunctional, vulnerable to anyone prepared to put their bodies in the way and take their chance at corner kicks.

The biggest concern I have is the message the players get from persistently overhauling roles and tactics; going from four at the back, to three, to four and back to three.  Add to this how Christie and Elyounoussi play a variety of roles: wide, middle, off the striker, and we shuffle between one and two up front.

If you are a player, you interpret this as, “We have no faith in our plan and we don’t know what to do about it.”  At least in this respect, the manager, players, you and me all believe the same thing.

When will it end?  Soon, I hope.  St Johnstone visit in six days and they are more potent than Ross County.

Reports of missiles being thrown at our players outside Celtic Park yesterday evening beggars belief.  Across the world, on a variety of issues, you see anger whipped up in online echo chambers.  This has consequences: some bring that anger into their personal interactions, some gather to demonstrate.

A smaller percentage of them have no boundaries.  Fuelled by the echo chamber and the crowd around them, they resort to violent acts, which Mr Angry behind his keyboard can condemn.  The violence is a consequence of entitled anger and together they make it more difficult to resolve the situation.  Imagine how you would react if you were a player?

A football team has come off the rails after winning a record 11 consecutive domestic trophies.  For a club that has known so many hard times, it was a pitiful bookend to this historic period.

  1. BBJ used to be for John Hartson.

Let`s go one `B` better: BBBJ = Bring Back Big Jimmy.

Off for a cold bike ride.

    Cheerio for now.

  2. To quote Theoden – How did it come to this?… So many thoughts going through the bonce… I have faith in Lenny but not blind faith and he does seem prone to having the odd blind spot… There are points were he has been unlucky (covid tests/then fitness) but some eg griffs early mental/physical condition and readiness were known concerns and should have been monitored better… I like to think most of us will acknowledge we don’t know the ins n outs of being a manager but I’d also like to think those in the know would acknowledge that as interested adults we see the same crazy experiments failing time and again… Frimpong can be a fine rwb but he cannot in anyway be a rb in a back 4 against any decent opposition he can’t physically challenge any direct ball he just can’t… Against any such opposition paring him in a 4 with a converted midfielder who should have the experience to make appropriate decisions despite not being a natural is at best naive… Doing that without a proper mobile dm supporting them is crazy… There are definitely times when our play is disjointed/slow and predictable… Ajeti is ineffective without another striker up with him and that can only be griff/eddy possibly klimala if given a chance… Its obv eddy had his head turned which slightly surprised me I thought that’d been settled to the summer but like elyoun he’s been in and out thou I think elyon has been more in than him thou that could be from just being there… Calmac / brown / Christie prob need various breaks but it’s clear the backup players can’t provide near the same… So back to lenny, here’s the conundrum.. And I’ve heard the rumour that hell be gone this morning… Part of me thinks he deserves to the cup final… I’ve started so ill finish kinda thing… And if things improve too then, then to the old firm game… Obv anything apart from a very strong period between now and then and the season is in jeopardy… Especially given poss outside covid risks to season lengtg I think if he is too go this week there has to be a proper plan… Not a strach for 6 months plan… Basically no matter what happens a whole team will likely need replaced circa 3 defenders, 3/4 mids and 2 forwards… Let’s say Neil makes it too then… I’d say he’d call it quits then…. And if he didn’t would we trust that rebuild too him?

  3. We still refer to Neil as though he is our entire managerial staff.

He is not. He is ‘aided’ by others, neither of whom were brought in by him.

I’d like to see some of the rhetoric depersonalised by making reference to the entire coaching staff.

Additionally, i dont believe there can be anything to negotiate over severance. 12 months rolling is surely that.

    The truth is out there

  4. `…and that was a major reason behind the tycoon’s decision to keep the team boss in place, according to a report in the Daily Record.`

    According to a what???

I am astounded of forehead .

  5. Uncle Jimmy, then the qn is, is he in charge? If he signed up to be head coach/patsy rather than manager (having worked with the board before) and kept that quiet then there’s blame on him there too

  6. I actually don’t think the board know what to do. They have understemitated the support. They seem to think that’s all about winning the league and we’ve only lost one league game , as NL likes to keep telling us.

If there is not a change before Sunday, I can see a major demonstration happening before the game.

  7. St Tams, I think a major demonstration on the back of the other night and in present context/restrictions would be major own goal

  8. Go tell the Spartim on

If P67 is a vehicle for PL to get his message across then surely the reverse is possible

So here goes …… if you think keeping Lenny on as manager is a good idea then you are as far removed from a competent Celtic employee as I could ever possibly imagine. Your inadequacies know no bounds

I just hope you’ve got a big reserve list as I’m sick to death of contributing to your grotesque wealth

  9. If the reports are true that Desmond has decided not to replace Neil Lennon because of the actions of the small crowd in the car park then he is treating the club as his plaything. Acting on a whim to show that he’s in charge, ignoring the manager’s appalling record this season and the views of a huge number of fans is not the way to proceed. He may hold all the cards at this time but he’ll learn like others before him that it’s the Celtic support who ultimately hold the power.

  10. Just exasperated by the news briefed to the media this morning. I can’t believe how arrogant and aloof our board are behaving right now.

Desmond and Lawwell are destroying our club. I’ve emailed the club wanting a season ticket refund. I won’t be back to Celtic Park anytime soon I’d imagine.

  11. “The Mob” is not the reason for keeping Neil in the job, it’s an excuse, as they haven’t yet been able to source a replacement, por cierto.

  12. My message to Neil is to keep his dignity and walk away.

Do not be used by the owner and the board as some kind of stick to punish the fans because THEY have been caught with their pants down and completely caught red handed as amateur, two bit chancers.

No succession planning has been done clearly.

Neil remains in place because the people who appointed him did not prepare for this scenario even when it has been completely obvious for 4 weeks.

I feel disgusted that todays nonsense leaking out of Celtic Park [by third party] is along the lines of..”YOU WANT ANGRY MOBS?…..okay then you can be punished by not getting the new manager the club needs.!!!

Good luck Mr Desmond and Mr Lawell with this particular stance.

One will be losing a lot of money and the other will be out of a job by next summer.

  13. onenightinlisbon on

Celtic supporters all over the world are the “life blood”of our great club.

Being treated with contempt by the shysters in the boardroom will not be forgotten.

  14. Bhoy From The Boyne on

It is never wise to square off to the Celtic support, only one winner here – the paying customer.

    Oh and the zombies :-(

My message to Neil is to keep his dignity and walk away.

No chance. He wants his payoff. Fair play to him but of course another reason why he’s just an ordinary punter looking after himself and not the sainted Lenny that many have placed on a Celtic pedestal.

    Aye, great advice.

How much would it cost you if NFL followed it?

How much would it cost him?

  17. Seems to be a campaign going on elsewhere to encourage fans to get refunds from this season and last season and people calling it in this morning. Boycotting the Celtic store and taking their money elsewhere.

Might have more of an impact than shoogly-fence shaking but another sign that this will get uglier the more the board stick their head in the sand.

100%. said it many times on here, he’s no saint.

  19. I don’t think they can get another Manager to take it.

This supposed Headmaster stance by DD, to teach the naughty boys a lesson, is nonsense.

  20. Whoever is in charge of the team on Thursday I hope they take a leaf out of Ross County Book.

Pack the defence 5-4 formation ,not the Celtic way but we don’t want another humiliation.

  21. Well this crisis has been incredibly well managed this week?.

We start of with an underperforming first team squad.

We are heading towards a battle for the identity of our whole football club.

I am amazed they have allowed it to get to this point.

    Could well be the case.

Prospective candidates and their agents probably have some idea about the peculiar power imbalances within the Celtic setup.

  23. Careful Now

That’s exactly the case. There is no plan B. All we’re getting now is pish and nonsense from a board feeding their MSM friends. The protest on Sunday has given them something to anchor.

Thursday? – A very good team who need to bounce back after Lille up against a team devoid of belief and confidence. I expect, sadly, another defeat and down further we go, tearing ourselves apart.

Sad times indeed. I just hope something good comes from it all and that’s regime change from DD downwards. And the banning of Rod Stewart from Celtic Park would be nice too :)

I’m sure guys like Eddie howe are well aware of what being Celtic manager entails. Guys who want to be in control of the club need not apply.

  25. Shame on this Celtic board another reason why we need change.

Anyone fancy a protest at Celtic park.

  26. LAZYDYNAMITE on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 10:13 AM

Might be something to do the fact that control of the operation is vested in the hands of a non Celtic fan, tax exile based in the Caribbean.

  27. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Yep, park the bus and avoid a hammering.

The implosion from board room to fan base is quite something to behold.

Irreparable damage risks being done if everyone is not careful.

  28. Personally I would think less of NFL if he resigned and in doing so was to forego what he is contractually entitled to.

Why should he short change his family? And who would benefit if he did?

  29. This whole shit show from within the bowels of our club has been managed poorly.

Get rid of the of of them.

This does not fill us with confidence going forward.

They are on the cusp of acting to late. Again.

Act now and we might salvage the season, wait to January and we we could be fecked.

Risk management, this management team have had ample time to turn things around and failed miserably change is needed pronto.

    D :)

  30. I don’t believe what has been briefed to the media this morning.

They don’t know what to do. They are clueless

  31. The PR is absolutely amateurish.

We’re not sure if the Daily Record report on Neil Lennon staying is accurate although so far the actions speak for themselves.

But if Lennon is to be kept on, the board need to come out and say they’re backing their man rather than hanging him out to dry. Hardly “backing” or “standing by him”, is it? The silence is deafening.

    Today’s reporting,

Dermot Desmond is simply not the kind of man who will be dictated to by a hate mob – if anything what went on after the game on Sunday has strengthened his resolve to give Neil another chance to turn things around.

Ernie, maybe we were onto something yesterday with the grandstanding presidential motorcade of the players for the cameras for all to see……..

  34. FANADPATRIOT on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 10:37 AM

I like it. I remember they did something similar in Burma. After years of clashes, they decided a form of protest would be to have thousands of monks walk around the capital with their bowls turned upside down. Monks are highly revered there and it was seen as very symbolic.

True, the military still came out and shot them but the idea was good and it brought attention to the world.

  35. onenightinlisbon on

Thes shysters are not simply going to walk away. Their “love” of our club is founded in the £ they make from it.
