As predicted, things got worse

568

On Friday, after the Sparta debacle, I predicted, “There is worse to come”, it did not take long.  Losing at home by two goals to Ross County is worse than losing by three goals away to Sparta Prague.  If you were surprised, you have not been paying attention, Ross County were a punter’s dream.  Celtic are dysfunctional, vulnerable to anyone prepared to put their bodies in the way and take their chance at corner kicks.

The biggest concern I have is the message the players get from persistently overhauling roles and tactics; going from four at the back, to three, to four and back to three.  Add to this how Christie and Elyounoussi play a variety of roles: wide, middle, off the striker, and we shuffle between one and two up front.

If you are a player, you interpret this as, “We have no faith in our plan and we don’t know what to do about it.”  At least in this respect, the manager, players, you and me all believe the same thing.

When will it end?  Soon, I hope.  St Johnstone visit in six days and they are more potent than Ross County.

Reports of missiles being thrown at our players outside Celtic Park yesterday evening beggars belief.  Across the world, on a variety of issues, you see anger whipped up in online echo chambers.  This has consequences: some bring that anger into their personal interactions, some gather to demonstrate.

A smaller percentage of them have no boundaries.  Fuelled by the echo chamber and the crowd around them, they resort to violent acts, which Mr Angry behind his keyboard can condemn.  The violence is a consequence of entitled anger and together they make it more difficult to resolve the situation.  Imagine how you would react if you were a player?

A football team has come off the rails after winning a record 11 consecutive domestic trophies.  For a club that has known so many hard times, it was a pitiful bookend to this historic period.

  1. Btw the boy that runs the 90 minute cynic website hasn’t been invited to virtual press conferences recently. He’s a good Celtic guy. No reason given by club. Says he’s been critical of tactics etc. Is this how pathetic and out of touch we’ve become?

Seeing you post again after something like forever is one of the few bright lights today.

I completely agree with your history of the situation. But not the proposed solution per se!

I’d propose if, when there’s a vacancy, we seek the permanent new boss, with their chosen background team.

Throw money at it. Because abject failure to defend our title could wipe away c.15-20k season books.

    Stay safe youngster

  3. The club would prefer fans groups like the zombie ones that slavishly follow follow the party line.

You know the ones that have welcomed every crook and charlatan that has ascended the magical marble staircase since Minty breezed in on the back of OPM. Unfortunately some of that was Lizzie Windsor’s or Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as she is know down the Co-op and when she wanted it back things got nasty!

No our club doesn’t really like dissent now that we are in the hands of an absentee landlord and his well greased minions.

Today’s guardians would never have announced “The war is over! The Rebels have won!”

More likely to say “Get back behind the fence you morons and remember to buy some stuff from the Superstore before you leave!”

  4. MN Celt- I read it that P67 was privy to some bad news,I.e NL staying, and that was before yesterday…HH

  5. Someone sent me a screenshot of the Sunday World front page from yesterday with the headline: “Shot for being a Celtic fan” about a guy called Paul Fleming in Coleraine fighting for his life after the UDA targeted him.

One of our own who also travelled to games, thoughts and prayers with his family at such a worrying time and a very poignant reminder of the sheer evil hatred from those in society who’d take a life for the crime of following our club and all that represents in their warped brains.

    Earlier report here.

  6. Livibhoy,

a well constructed piece. You were right though, I wasn’t that excited about your solution. But you may well be right and that we may have little other option than something that radical.

I’m still hopeful of an Eddie Howe type rabbit out of the hat.

  7. David 17. 4.08.

I never knew that. Very disappointing.

It was the questions that guy asks, that made me realise things would be very different under Neil.

As you probably know, the guy asks very technical,/ tactical questions, a bit like those asked by a lot of Italian sports journalists.

Brendan Rodgers waxed lyrical, with this guy, about why he had changed tactics, made a sub, changed shape etc.

Neil, when asked, was very defensive, the guy asked something like what was your rationale behind moving someone ( can’t remember who ) upfront? Neil’s response was I was just trying to win the game.

The following week, similar happened again and I felt Neil was a bit dismissive of him, Neil was far more comfortable with the inane questions, the old, school Scottish journalists ask.

  8. Gerrard said this at the start of the season – I only want players here who want to play for the club.

Lennon said at the start of the season – Some players don’t want to be here

Gerrard has a team of players fighting for their position through desire and competition

Lennon has kept players with no desire and its infesting the mood in the camp – he made his bed now he’s lying in it!

I’d rather play a hungry youngster than a lazy experienced pro

  9. Latest odds for a non vacant seat..not one would enthuse

Gordon Strachan: 6/4 (was 7/1 on Friday)

Roy Keane: 6/1 (was 16/1 on Friday)

Marco Silva: 7/1 (was 3/1 on Friday)

    Malky Mackay: 17/2

    Steve Clarke: 9/1

  10. Celtic’s home clash with Hibs has been rearranged for an unusual midweek slot.

The Premiership encounter, originally scheduled for January 9, will now take on a new date and time.

The teams will instead meet on Monday, January 11 at 7.45pm.

Are we moving from the weekend, to avoid protests? Surely not….

  11. I see the usual suspects managing to conflate some bad behaviour from a few young supporters with the first ministers update today, totally pathetic but sadly predictable. P67 talks about echo chambers in his post today, currently CQN is one of the biggest such chambers around at the moment.

We are at a pivotal moment in the history of my football team, no amount of childish unionist garbage should be allowed to get in the way of doing the right thing for us right now. And the right thing is to clear out the management and coaching staff, we need a fresh start to gather some momentum waiting is not an option.

This is ALL the fault of the fans.

    They’’ve been criminally negligent.

Meant to say, I’ve really enjoyed your contributions on here of late.

Livibhoy has been absent for far too long so may be ‘new’ to you. He was one of the most erudite and thought-creating posters on CQN ‘of hold’, and a token whippersnapper who was under 40!

Some on here may disagree with your take on things , but this article I thought was spot on .

Whatever you may think of the CEO , he is one cute operator in the field of PR .

All reasonable supporters condemn the actions of last night’s hooligan element and hope it doesn’t escalate or get repeated …. RIGHT……..

now that’s out of the way , lets focus on the cause of our anger and what we do about it .

    I am / was a BR fan.

He was good but not perfect — still wearing CL L plates for one.

However there are few better and we probably can’t afford them.

Consequently we should have worked him to our advantage rather than winding him up and hoping he would leave eventually — the PL strategy.

  19. Go tell the Spartim on

Would it be fair to warn the board that Celtic playing without any fans in the stadium could all very well be the norm if they continue with their contempt for “their customers “

They’re always first to condemn the support and you never hear them defending the support. Not sure what a collective of snake oil salesmen would be called.

Not that they care but I have absolutely no respect for them or their “business acumen”. We fund absolutely everything, sponsors come to us as they know we”ll buy all the merchandise, we”ll be on tv because broadcasters, all those that currently show our games are snakes in the grass too, know we’ve a big support who’ll pay for subscriptions. I fail to see what they’ve contributed other than an insight into their own self entitlement.

The longer this goes on the tighter the security gets on my wallet.

Welcome back LiviBhoy. That was a great post to read. Your management appointments are so left field. It’ll take me three weeks to get my head round them too. You’ve given it a lot of thought but was there not conflict between Broonie and John Collins when John was manager at Hibs. Was Broonie not one of a deputation of players who complained to Petrie about JC. I know they were both at Celtic under Ronny’s regime. I got the feeling they were biting their tongues and gnashing their teeth to get along but I could be wrong. Anyway I’m interested to read what the more discerning, analytical posters have to say about your suggestions.

HOT SMOKED on 30TH NOVEMBER 2020 3:15 PM

i have not met Paul67 but i accept your assessment of him as a person I would have guessed that

But i do believe he is stuck between a rock and a hard place

CQN was (and still is) my first point of contact when I want to converse with Celtic fans online

CQN gave me (and a million others) somewhere to get Celtic news that was factual

it was an upgrade from “Not The View”

And 100% more Celtic centric than some Hun writing in the MSM

But for me all that has diluted and CQN is compromised with Paul67 messaging for Lawwell

So now when I read CQN I am never sure if its a celtic message or a lawwell message

For me this is a big shame

Paul67 has allowed this own brilliant platform to be hijacked by PL

I wrote this on the previous blog

On a lighter note I feel for Paul67 and how he writes his post today

PL will try and have him focus on the actions of a few fans outside last night

Or we may get the NL is being obstructive by not resigning

Or the players let us down

  24. For all the talk about Celtic not being able to attract a big name, Sevco got Gerrard.

And he hasn’t turned out as bad a coach as a lot of Celtic fans complacently predicted.

We’re at 3/1 or so to win the SPL but the issue is that, although, we could get back on track, they don’t look like dropping many points.
