As predicted, things got worse

568

On Friday, after the Sparta debacle, I predicted, “There is worse to come”, it did not take long.  Losing at home by two goals to Ross County is worse than losing by three goals away to Sparta Prague.  If you were surprised, you have not been paying attention, Ross County were a punter’s dream.  Celtic are dysfunctional, vulnerable to anyone prepared to put their bodies in the way and take their chance at corner kicks.

The biggest concern I have is the message the players get from persistently overhauling roles and tactics; going from four at the back, to three, to four and back to three.  Add to this how Christie and Elyounoussi play a variety of roles: wide, middle, off the striker, and we shuffle between one and two up front.

If you are a player, you interpret this as, “We have no faith in our plan and we don’t know what to do about it.”  At least in this respect, the manager, players, you and me all believe the same thing.

When will it end?  Soon, I hope.  St Johnstone visit in six days and they are more potent than Ross County.

Reports of missiles being thrown at our players outside Celtic Park yesterday evening beggars belief.  Across the world, on a variety of issues, you see anger whipped up in online echo chambers.  This has consequences: some bring that anger into their personal interactions, some gather to demonstrate.

A smaller percentage of them have no boundaries.  Fuelled by the echo chamber and the crowd around them, they resort to violent acts, which Mr Angry behind his keyboard can condemn.  The violence is a consequence of entitled anger and together they make it more difficult to resolve the situation.  Imagine how you would react if you were a player?

A football team has come off the rails after winning a record 11 consecutive domestic trophies.  For a club that has known so many hard times, it was a pitiful bookend to this historic period.

Ernie – Appreciate your reply – ‘Res 12’ – could you elaborate a little please.

    ———

Whilst the Board were pretending to shown interest in Res 12 this site was supportive of the campaign, once the Board stopped pretending this site dropped its support and was dismissive and derisive of the people involved. A number of posters left as a result.

You’d maybe want to ask why you support Irish independence and how Scotland’s position within the UK compares with Ireland’s.

There’s no inconsistency between supporting Irish independence and thinking Scotland would be better off in the UK. That has, after all, been the position of the left for generations.

How long do you claim to have been supporting Celtic?

  17. Big Wavy,

Good- pleased you’re not validating their behaviour. It was selfish. It might of relieved the stress or pressure for them but it put our support in the wrong parts of the news and papers.

  18. There has been a lot of talk on here about ‘Entitlement’ in relation to Celtic and its Supporters, but I don’t think you can talk about this without also talking about ‘Responsibility’ and also always remembering that regardless of our emotional involvement in ‘Celtic’, ‘Celtic FC’ is actually ‘Celtic PLC’, a vehicle for making money. MONEY, ultimately, is the only thing that matters to the PLC and I for one find it helpful to look through the above lenses when considering what might, or should, happen in relation to ‘Our Club’.

    Entitlement (and Responsibilities) :

    Owner

Entitled to run Celtic PLC as he sees fit, whether that is to make money, associated kudos, long-term investment or emotional plaything. Entitled to expect ALL his employees to do their jobs under the (steered) direction of the CEO.

Entitled to financial rewards arising from his investment.

Ultimately responsible for the direction, profitability, legality and reputation of the PLC/Brand.

    CEO

Entitled to run the PLC within the constraints and/or leeway entrusted by the Owner.

Entitled to his salary and profit-related bonuses as agreed by the Owner.

Entitled to expect that ALL Employees will do their jobs to the best of their abilities.

Responsible for the day-to-day running and legality of the operation, forward and contingency planning, Business Communications (internal and external), support, direction and training for ALL Employees and specific Director duties and responsibilities.

    Manager

Entitled to his salary and any achievement-related bonuses that may arise.

Entitled to run the football side of the operations as he sees fit.

Entitled to expect that his background and support staff will carry out his instructions.

Entitled to expect that the well-paid Players will always be professional (in training and at home), and motivated to carry out his instructions.

Responsible for implementing tactics and direction on the field of play.

Responsible for motivation and leadership of players and everyone involved in the football side of the PLC’s operations.

Responsible for media communications on the football side of the PLC’s operations.

Responsible for understanding that the hopes and dreams of the Celtic Support lie ultimately with how the players as a team perform on the field of play. (OK. I may have taken that one too far. 😊)

    Assistants & Background Staff

Entitled to their salary and any achievement-related bonuses.

Entitled to expect that they can provide the players with whatever equipment, nutrition etc. are needed for them to perform optimally.

Responsible for ensuring that the players are fit, organised, well-trained and ‘happy’ in their day-to-day environment.

    Players

Entitled to their salary and any achievement-related bonuses.

Entitled to an environment that will support their maintenance and improvement of their professional playing standards.

Responsible to their Manager, Coaches and other Players for always performing and acting in a way that maximises team performances and results.

Responsible for carrying out the Manager’s and coaches’ tactics and instructions on the field of play.

Responsible for maintaining and improving their own personal physical and mental fitness and football skill-set.

Responsible for understanding that the hopes and dreams of the Celtic Support lie ultimately with the players on the field of play. (OK. I may have taken that one too far. 😊)

    Supporters/Fans

Supporters are entitled to good quality and value in relation to any purchases made from the PLC. (Tickets, merchandise, TV Stream etc.)

Fans are not entitled to anything from the PLC!

Supporters/Fans are responsible for ensuring that they conduct themselves within the law whilst on any Celtic PLC Premises.

    SFA & SPFL

Entitled to expect that ALL Clubs adhere to SFA & SPFL Rules and always act within the law.

Responsible for Statutes and Rules that ensure that each Club adheres to FIFA & UEFA Regulations, and are treated equally and fairly for the benefit of ALL Clubs.

SFA – Responsible for supplying and organising Professional Referees who will Professionally and strictly Impartially Referee Matches with equal and fair treatment to ALL Teams.

Responsible for the National Team, organisation of Cup Competitions, and grass-roots football.

    SMSM

Entitled to their Journalists being treated professionally if invited, or contractually obligated to attend at Football Matches on Club Premises.

Responsible to their Paymasters to Report on Football matters in a way that supports their paymasters’ Agendas whilst remaining within the Law and not exposing their Paymasters to potential Litigation.

Social Media Readers, Bloggers and activists

Entitled to expect that Readers understand that their clicks on any site may contribute to revenue earned by the owner of said site.

Entitled to expect that Readers stick to the Rules/Guidance for any particular site and that their public opinions remain within the law and do not expose site owners to potential litigation.

Responsible for nothing other than offering opinions within the law and offering a platform where readers may, again within the law, offer publicly their own opinion.

If I look at the ‘equation’ that is all of the above in relation to ‘Celtic’s/Celtic FC’ s’/Celtic PLC’s’ current malaise, I personally would come to the conclusions that:

    1) It is the PLAYERS that are mostly to blame; if anyone should be sacked it is them! (I don’t think all of the players are equal in this.)

    2) The Manager and his backroom staff are demonstrating a seeming inability to change current and recent circumstances for the better and to make best use of the resources available to them. Neil Lennon is NOT THE ENEMY though he has made, and seems to be continuing to make, mistakes. I will say this again; there has NEVER been a Celtic Manager under as much pressure as Neil Lennon is in this season. (and there likely never will be again.) He deserves the support of every one at the PLC and every Supporter/Fan!

    3) The CEO and Owner seem conspicuous in their absence; it is difficult to infer if the Manager and Players are operating within the model and parameters given to them, and reciprocally whether the Manager, backroom staff and players have the full (practical) support of the owner and CEO.

    4) Given any lack of Public Comment on Refereeing Standards (think sanctioned assaults and decisions designed to influence the outcome of games) as applied to Celtic PLC Employees, I would have to conclude that Celtic PLC are comfortable with that.

    5) Given the lack of any Public Comment or support for Resolution 12, and their Stance with Resolution 11, I would have to conclude that Celtic PLC are comfortable with SFA Governance of the game in Scotland and how that impacts their own revenue.

    6) The SMSM are not our friends and will use any negative weapon that they can against us.

[I have ignored Covid-19 as an external factor that is the same for ALL Clubs.]

That was a shameful embarrassing day for Celtic fuelled by ignorance.

However it triggered a backlash that re-educated a section of our support and indeed society in general.

That was 32 years ago and Mark Walters has forgiven the perpetrators for their ignorance.

Will we still be talking about last night in 32 years time, will it prove to be a pivoting moment and will NFL forgive the ignoramuses. ?

You’ve got some brass neck, total revionism nonsense.

Posters with any recollection will recall your snarling at posters telling you the damage Lawell was doing to our club.

Also your sniping at the rat and snake as you called him, or as sensible posters would call him the most successful manager since Jock Stein.

Your board friendly, Peter Lawell loving views were in contrast to what we needed to be a successful club. You made your bed, hope your comfortable lying in it.

Let’s recall some of you’re views.

Neil Lennon a better manager than Brendan Rodgers copyright Bournesouprecipe.

At least we won’t have to suffer embarrassments in Europe under Lenny like Brendan. Copyright Bournesouprecipe.

Why did I feel much worse getting humped of Sparta Prague twice than PSG twice?

Just remember you clapped us all the way into this mess we are in today, don’t forget, I don’t.

  25. There’s a very particular dogged perspective…….it’s almost professional.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

  26. Evening

I am a long term admirer of the blog but over the years I have very rarely posted anything on a regular basis.

I return to the site with great interest when things are not going well in the pitch to view the opinions of many on here who demonstrate their views in an eloquent and thoughtful manner.

Along with my 2 boys ( ages 17 and 16) we are STH in the North Stand and have been for a long time.

I stood in the Jungle from the early 80s buying the Macaroon bars and celebrating every goal like it meant the world.

I have been all over Europe watching my team and consider myself a fanatic.

My boys are the same as me much to my wife’s dismay.

Celtic mean the world to me but I wanted to put some perspective into the rough time we as a family have had recently which will hopefully help many on here stay calm and remember there are more important things going on ( even more important than the Hoops).

My eldest boy has a Brain Tumour.Things are worse than awful so horrendous that the pain of him suffering is beyond words.

He hasn’t been able to watch any game since the away game in Perth where we celebrated the two late goals.

That at least was a joyful moment in a season full of problems.

Anyway I just wanted to point out the following

Neil Lennon and Scott Brown have both shown a great interest in my lad and have sent heart felt messages.

In fact he has had several messages from various players.

Lenny deserves the upmost respect in my book and so does our captain.

I will leave out what my thoughts are on our mangers future for now.

What all the above leads to is Perspective on life for me has never been more laid bare.

In usual circumstances I would be in total and utter disbelief about our season but what my son is going through along with the rest of my family is on an entire different scale.

    Closing thoughts..

We have done the 9 , we could still do the 10 , don’t give up believing that we can do it , we have enjoyed brilliant success and nothing is more important than your children’s health.

God bless my son and Glasgow Celtic.

  27. STMARTIM,

Oh here we fekin go.The always offended on my case now.Go and light a candle for me.

  28. TB- I stuck a fiver on Petrescu 10 minutes ago at 12/1,he’s 9/2 now,but manager markets are very volatile

  29. Why while we are on the subject of brass necks, our host takes a bit of beating.

Imagine coming on and calling supporters entitled when only a few weeks ago he was backing Lenny to remain in post.

Imagine coming on and calling posters entitled when only a few years ago he was being so arrogant he was telling his readers that Celtic would win the title for evermore. Look in the mirror first before you start preaching of others.
