Ashely hates conflict

725

We’ve often talked about the only real danger to a football club: internecine strife:

Internecine, def: pertaining to conflict within a group, mutually destructive.

In football, your enemies can’t inflict permanent harm, that can only come from within.  This morning’s media cover threats from Sevconians to boycott (clearly in homage to Irish tradition) club/company products.  More power to their elbows, they should boycott every piece of tat Newco’s disparate IP rights holders churn out, apart from the occasional novelty duck.

Here’s the thing, before you turn the tanks inwards, you’d better be sure you’ve got the ‘What happens next?’ question sorted.  If you don’t, you’re playing a real life version of Lemmings.

Threatening Mike Ashley?  Aye sure, that’ll work, knock yourself out.  I’m sure Ashley’s known as a big pussy, he hasn’t got the money to face down the malcontents, either.  I bet he’s already writing his capitulation letter, “Dear Sevconians, by noticing that I can’t handle conflict you’ve outsmarted me.  The game’s up.”

What was it Charles Green told John Brown he would do to Ibrox?  Hmmm.

Blame the SFA, SPL, BBC, Celtic, Her Majesty’s lawyers, the Daily Record and Raith Rovers but you need to be on the inside to wreak havoc like this.

Interesting front opened by the English Premier League today on the copycat use of pyrotechnics at football games.  “Someone could get killed”, said policing minister Damian Green.  You’re 20 years out of date, Mr Green.

Here’s the problem: it’s possible to discharge one of these devices in a crowded area without accepting the safety/reputational/fine consequences.  Enormously invasive searches of unconnected people would be required to prevent pyros being taken into a stadium which is just not possible, eradication requires everyone to decide not to participate.

The only practical method I can see of stopping the use of pyrotechnics in Scottish football is to give Sports Direct exclusive distribution rights.  Who’d buy them then?

So ally mccoist isn’t taking the pish out of his club?

    Honest…,

Players, like the rest of is want as much as they can get, I offer my services professionally and i want as much as I can get for that.

Taking money out of the supporters pocket is what every single one of them does but they commit professionally, now, if the clubs negotiator thinks he can use emotional blackmail at a later stage to reduce that contract then thats his gamble not the players.

I keep getting told every board member is a Celtic supporter do they even pay for season tickets for their seats ? at the time, the corporate sales were through the roof, why should Bobo only consider the less well off supporters when he negotiates his contract ? Emotional blackmail is not a legitimate charge for consideration when trying to improve your lot. Stop being so melodramatic.

    Canamalar.

The club has finite resources. If bobo balde loved the club he would have known he was getting far more than he should have and moved on.

Guys that love the club sign 3 year deals before leaving so the club get money from their moves.

  4. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Honest..,

Nobody robbed the club, an agreement was made, the club signed up to what they thought was fair, then changed their mind, your argument is emotionally charged drivel. The player was cheated not the club, trying to use our connection with the club to turn on a player who honoured his contract is out of order.

  5. Joe Filippis Haircut on

The Honest Mistake. Bobo did nothing wrong he honoured his contract which would be good if all players did that. I am not in the least interested in Fat Sleekit Ally what he gets or doesnt get or what he does or doesnt do. H.H.

  6. If Bobo or any other player signs a contract, and adheres to the conditions,i.e being on time for training, not breaking Disciplinary Code etc,he should be paid what the player and the Club agreed to and signed.

  7. The Honest Mistake loves being first on

Canamalar. I think the same of your argument.

Balde took celtic for a ride, could have moved on, got paid less elsewhere because he was getting more than he should have.

He loved money more than he loved celtic but because he took the push out of pl, you admire him. Sums the situation up.

If ally mccoist turns up for training on time etc then all is ok?

He’s getting paid more than he should be, he taking the push out of his club and fans.

I think it’s marvelous but when it’s celtic different story.

    Honest

I know what you’re saying – I have always had a soft spot for Bradford City (lived thereabouts 25 years), and I remember Benito Carbone (£40,000 per week) being held up as the scapegoat when the wheels came off big time at Valley Parade.

It wasn’t Beni Carbone’s fault that somebody offered him silly money on a 4-year contract. And it wasn’t Carbone’s fault that BCFC went bust.

Carbone was a professional football player and he is like every other professional footballer – he does it for the money.

They all do. They are pro’s. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Obviously, if I had ever been good enough to pull on the hoops, well, that would be different.

    Honest…,

Melodrama is no a big hit here, I admire him because he took on and bettered the best we had to offer without an agent, he made his own word his bond, and on doing so, showed more honour than those he settled the agreement with. Its not his fault some sharp suited man thought he could outsmart and renege on the agreement, irrespective of your emotive drivel to ostracise a player who did everything asked of him during his contract.

He was worth every penny and we would not have signed him up if he wasnt.

  13. Regarding Bobo.

I would imagine a fair percentage of folks on here have a Contract of Employment.

How would you react if your employer approached you and told you they expected you to accept a reduction in the pay they agreed to pay you?

If,having refused to accept it,you were “sent to Coventry” and removed from your normal duties?

Then your employer tried to send you to work elsewhere, somewhere you were quite entitled to refuse to go?

There have been many occasions where Celtic FC have covered themselves in glory, the Bobo Balde episode was not one of them

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

The Honest Mistake. If your Boss offered you a £100,000 grand a year 1) you would take it as read he could afford it. 2) You wouldnt want to go through his books to check 3) you wouldnt expect him to come back after 6 months and say he wanted to half it.4) If you had signed a contract with him you would insist he honour it. Thats how contracts work. H.H.

  15. It all sounds a bit like the 1890’s spats between the Free Church of Scotland, the United Presbyterian Church of Scotland and the Church of Scotland (1889), the United Presbyterian Church, the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland………hehehehe

“A few years after the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland (FPC Church) was formed, the Free Church of Scotland united with the United Presbyterian Church to form the United Free Church of Scotland, with a somewhat larger minority remaining outside the union and retaining the name Free Church of Scotland. Initially, some wondered if the two churches would merge, but this did not happen, because the grounds on which the later separation was based had been the Establishment Principle,[3] rather than the Declaratory Act, which had only been rescinded post separation by the Free Church of Scotland (post 1900).

A communion token from the Free Presbyterian Church.

The two denominations are sometimes confused, as the differences between them are not great.[citation needed] However, the Free Presbyterian Church considers it a sin to use public transport to go to church on the Sabbath,[4] while the Free Church does not. The Free Church permits the use of modern Bible translations, while the Free Presbyterian Church prescribes the exclusive use of the Authorized Version in public worship (by resolution of the Synod in 1961 [5]).

The more things change the more they remain the same ……

Think of Wave Tower, Sevco and whatever else theycall themselves………LMAO

A bigot is still a bigot…..doesn’t matter how dress or what you call yourself.

  16. agree with most – Bobo honored his contract and was perfectly entitled to do so. Not his fault that the club provided such a contract. MON built an expensive team with absolutely no vision of the future stability / development of youth. Peter Lawell has since rectified this and found a better balance (although i’d like to see us have at least 2 proven positions in the team for champs league) – we always seem to be “nearly” a great team.

We need to be thinking about landscape changes in the football world and ensure we are in a position of strength to benefit – regional leagues, changes to UEFA league set up, financial fair play, Asian markets etc.. i think we are doing rather nicely despite the market we operate in.

  17. I can’t believe the stick Bobo’s getting on here tonight. He had the misfortune to sign a contract that the club decided later was a mistake.

He conducted himself with dignity throughout and done all that was asked of him. Even when suffering the ultimate indignity when Strachan suggested Caldwell and McManus were better centre halves.

    Cheers for that.

I know how contracts work thanks.

I’m not employed by a football club that is a huge part of my life. I don’t expect to earn 40,000 per week. I don’t get paid more than I should. Therefore the example is not appropriate.

It is self evident that your judgement is suspect. Let’s just leave it at that.

  23. Why all the fuss about Bobos contract.

Did he honour his part of the contract.

    Did Celtic honour their part.

If the answer to both is yes then there can be no complaints.

Contract negotiations are a two way street and it may be Celtics fault that appearance money was set too high for them in the end.

Or was it Bobos fault that he didn’t negotiate a lower overall wage with a higher basic and a lower appearance fee.

    I don’t know and I’m sure a lot of others don’t either.

But I don’t think that will make any difference as people have already made up their minds

Your lecture about what is appropriate for the blog is irrelevant.

He wasn’t worth the money, he shouldn’t have been contracted at that rate but it was his decision to keep taking the money despite it being obvious it was inflated. He could have went elsewhere and got a fair rate. It was his decision to take all the money from celtic despite not earning it. I can appreciate that he has the right to be rewarded as his contract stipulates but for me celtic is different from an average business an emotions are invested as well as money.

If you don’t think that emotion should be involved in celtic then I’m talking to the wrong guy.

  30. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Bobo was quite entitled to see his contract out, and the club messed up badly by giving it to him. But remember he asked for a clause to “get out” in the summer, and if someone had offered him what Celtic paid him he’d have been off like a shot.
