Assault. With a bomb.

245

After an Edinburgh jury found Neil Lennon’s attacker at Tynecastle last season not guilty of assault no one will be surprised that Lord Turnbull has today advised the jury there was insufficient evidence to prove two accused intended to murder Neil Lennon, Paul McBride and former MSP Trish Godman.

The two will now face the reduced charge of plotting to assault their victims.  With a bomb.  Perhaps a world first.

The Celtic manager gave evidence at the trial earlier this month before carrying the coffin of his friend and fellow target Paul McBride, who died suddenly of natural causes.  The SFA yesterday wrote to Neil Lennon for the third time in 10 days concerning refereeing comments he made.

My advice to Mr Ogilvie and Mr Regan at the SFA is that they fill their boots while they can.  Neil will be free of these stresses soon and no longer be such a vulnerable target for the Association to gorge on like a bitter pack of rabid dogs.

Now there’s a story that needs to be told, and told asap – not in 20 years time if Neil decides to write a book,it needs to be told now – before these animals try to murder him again.

Speaking in a general and non specific way about a hypothetical case the prosecutor will frame charges on the basis of the evidence he/she thinks is available.

Sometimes the evidence doesn’t pan out as expected.

Like, for instance, if a witness doesn’t say what they said they were going to say about what someone might have said to them about what that person had done and what their intention was in doing what they had done.

What will the Scottish Government do differently in an independant Scotland than they do now in regards justice for those attacked for the beliefs or perceived beliefs?

Someone shoots a match official, they get off with murder/ attempted murder. After all, they used an ‘assault’ rifle.

I’m really flattered and what’s more glad you liked it so much so bought it!

As for what’s happening today, there doesn’t seem to be any pretence at hiding things now, it’s open season. Perhaps, it’s their last gasp and attempt to bring down as much as possible with them.

We’ve been renting a house for just over 5 years now and have been looking to buy recently. Honestly, the more that incidents like this happen not to mention the thought of a successful independence vote makes me feel less inclined to stay in Scotland, however Mrs Dharma wants to stay where we are and we’ve got 2 children both under 10, as well as our extended families.

    Ah, memories Jobo :-)

I used to go there every lunchtime the sun had his hat on with 2 wee burds from my office, Michelle & Rachel (sometimes lovely Laura would join us). We used to just say “George today.”…and off we went. Many a pleasant time had there. Sigh…

  12. Sickening news, just sickening. A bitter reflection of our bigited little country and those who infect it.

    Lubo.

  13. Under Scots law a person can be convicted of assault on the basis of threats alone. A good example would be to point an unloaded firearm at someone. However, if you point a firearm, which you know to be unloaded, at someone and pull the trigger you cannot face a charge of attempted murder. I haven’t sat in the trial and heard the evidence but this may explain the Judge’s decision. I never rely on court reports from the media as they are often woefully unreliable and inaccurate.

If these men are convicted of conspiracy to assault (which seems likely now), I’d be surprised if their sentences are expressed in single figures.
