Astana coach: there are defeats in football too

275

“I’m so tired of being alone,
I’m so tired of on my own,
Won’t you help me, girl,
Just as soon as you can”

Al Green’s lament is written for those tired and distant from homely comforts  If you and I do our job tonight, the Astana players who take the field will know what it feels like to compete in what is the wee small hours of their internal body clock.  They will be tired, and the crisp Glasgow night will feel nothing like their central Asia base.  Home advantage is worth nothing if you don’t make the most of it.

Astana’s Bulgarian manager, Stanimir Stoilov, promised his players are ready for tonight’s game at Celtic Park.:

“Discipline will be key. When we were here last year feelings were running high and we could maintain composure. We just have to remember two games will decide who gets to the group stages of the Champions League. We need to keep our nerve for both games.

“I have no words that can describe what it would mean for Kazakhstani football for us to reach the group stage. I am pretty sure the players know what it will mean for them, they are focussed on success.

“Celtic have risen up in recent years under Brendan Rodgers. He has done a good job and Celtic are stronger.

“We need to score [tonight]. If we don’t, get a goal, the game in Astana will be tough. We must try to be ourselves and play our football, no surprises.

“Any team which doesn’t lose in eight months deserves huge respect. We will be very happy if we win. On the other hand, there are defeats in football too, but we will see what happens.”

One interesting fact emerged from his Celtic Park media conference yesterday: the Astana board publicly set a target for their team to reach either the Champions League or Europa League group stages this season. This was achieved with the win over Legia Warsaw in the last round.

Given a choice, I’d prefer to play a team who’ve hit their targets, than one whose very essence replies on them beating you.

Let’s get stuck into them, Celtic.

It increasingly looks like the 5 Way Agreement included a Collective Responsibility Clause. ..

  2. Celtic’s WEE strikers can just duck under their elbows…nae bother !

Celtic to win by THREE clear goals methinks IF we are on our game……and why shouldn’t we be ?

  3. Looks to me like Doncaster is going on the ……”so what you gonny do about it Timmy”…on the park we are an unstoppable force, but with no other clubs fans coming on board with the argument?

I’m just an ordinary Celtic fan who doesent like being cheated, and me personally if I was a fan of any other club, me being me I’d feel the same way, cheated.

All I’m saying is obviously other clubs fans in Scotland are scared of Sevco, why? Only they can answer that, your not much of a fan if you can’t stick up for the integrity of the game, so why would you bother going? Only they will know that too, as i’v said before” The Fighting Scotts” looks like that went down the same road as being liquidated.

  4. Now the Players Union are supposed to look after the interests of any player in Scotland ?

When there is clear evidence that one particular club acted unlawfully, and that club and its PLAYERS who where I assume members of the Players Union, then why can’t the Players Union become heavily involved in all of this as it is patently feckin clear, that OTHER Players…MEMBERS of that very same Union, were cheated out of Titles and Cups, that situation then shows that those players cheated out of medals etc…were also CHEATED out of ANY WIN BONUS’S ?

Maybe I’m Wrong………calling Fraser feckin Wishart where are you ( or is he also one of the unnamed EBT players) ?

My ancestors came to Glasgow from Ireland with soil on their hands. They soon replaced it with engine grease, but not before they had fought themselves clean with the local culture, and I enjoyed a Scottish childhood in which 400 years of history was inscribed at the level of daily life. In the town in Ayrshire where I grew up, the Catholic church was adjacent to a blue hut in a field, a hut that lay dormant for most of the week. But on Sunday morning, about 2 minutes before 10 o’clock Mass, the hut would thump into life, a big bass drum at the centre, as the local Orange Band embarked on its weekly rehearsals. You could see the funny side of that, and, in time, the blue hut was replaced by a library, which carried books by people for all over the world who feasted on the different kinds of loyalties that make a world. My Glasgow grandparents weren’t just poor, they were Victorian poor, subject, when I examine the records, to privations and self-defeats that would’ve made Charles Dickens blush. Yet we had added to the country that took us in by helping building a Labour movement at the centre of it. Even in my post-industrial childhood in the 1970s and 80s, the old arguments died hard, yet only at the end of it, and after a few harsh doubts of my own, did I realise a modern Scotland had been born around us. We were immigrants, after all, but now we had inside bathrooms and national healthcare and jobs. It took a while for some of us to get over the grief of the journey, and we hadn’t the literature yet, to soothe or express it. But that came in time, the poetry and the prose, the drama and the art, and the Scotland I’d always known in my head and in my day began to exist in the literature of our country. The title of this lecture is ‘Scotland Your Scotland’, tipping a hat to that famous essay of 1941 by George Orwell called ‘England Your England’. It was a brave essay at the time, characteristically unflinching in naming those parts of the national character that should be named. At the time of writing it, Britain was facing the greatest threat to its existence since the Norman Conquest: wolf-packs of German U-Boats surrounded the coast, bombs whistled overhead, yet Orwell trusted that the fighting spirit could still endure a few incendiary home truths.

  6. Doncaster won’t or can’t follow the rules because of a secret agreement he reached which is not part of the rules.

If the rules can be set aside so easily what is the point in having them at all.

The rule book should apply to all clubs and Doncaster and McKenzie are paid to make sure that this happens and rule breakers are sanctioned.

There can be no cherry picking to suit any club.

Airdrie are currently in real trouble. Will the rules be changed or set aside in favour of some secret agreement to suit this situation? I think we all know the answer to that one.

If the 5 Way Agreement sits above the rules of the game and we don’t know for sure what it says then how can we be sure that it is legitimate, in the best interests of the game or even legal?

Hiding behind secrecy is no longer an option.

  7. So Doncaster just spouts same nonsense in person as he did in public.. Why have a meeting He is scum. Of course they can re-visit LNS. It wasn’t a court of law and if it was it would be a mistrial. Not all evidence given and directions (from SFA) were complete nonsense. But no one including Celtic think there is anything wrong with it. And a secret deal means nothing can be done.. a SECRET deal. so no matter what anyone says they just say the 5WA trumps it. Surely every club must be treated the same in which case the 5WA is illegal. Utter nonsense . But why do celtic do nothing…..don’t give me that behind closed doors shit. isn’t that what we are fighting against. handshake law

  8. Looks like the report from the CSA guys after yesterday’s meeting are deja vu . They are still being allowed to call the tune . This 5 Way agreement clause s needing investigated by our team of lawyers , as is this nimmo guys ruling . We are getting bombarded with these trunked up rules ,whenever we seek justice for the years of cheating , and after all this time listening to it , we haven’t had the guts to properly challenge it .

  9. And who is responsible for not strengthening the team for CL play offs? One miffilder that we didn’t need…. JH who is not a s good as GMS or Ryann Chritie who we gave away. Should have got PR or decided to get another decent winger in .. If not wanting to get a good young CF or CH then we could have got experienced players in for a year .. they would jump at chance for a swansong at parkhead. Toure got us through last year. and even a Dion Dublin type (I mean by experience) buy would be better than Forrest through the middle

  10. BBC news this lunchtime..Scientists have discovered a “new” Dinosaur called a CHILESAURES.

The experts say it’s a FRANKENSTEIN Dinosaur dating back to around 1690.

Why name it a Chilesaures….why not an ” IBROXSAURES” ?

    Just asking like.

wait a minute….CHILE saures….is this Pedros latest South American signing ?

Is it younger than Bruno Alves…or maybe Clint Hill ?

Seems to me as though the lunatics have taken over the asylum. They are telling you politely, to go away.

They have the power to ignore anything they want to, and they do.

This is nothing but an insult to the intelligence. However, it will take more than a bit of ranting to shift this mob.

At this point, they are laughing, because there is nobody with any clout to challenge them.

All the carry on with the ‘developing story’, where it seems you showed them your hand, and they acted accordingly by constructing another wee strategy to contain.

Now, they are only the message boys for their bosses higher up the chain, but it seems to me, that they have established their own set of rules to institute rampant cheating, and ALL the clubs seem to be ok with that.

    Why is that?

  12. PS DOncaster an d Regan work for the clubs.. Not the other way. Celtic can demand answers.. but never ask any questions. never object to them being re-elected. never call foul on clubs being admitted to league with no right. Don’t expect help from other clubs they don’t like Celtic fans…. but don’t mind the Celtic board.

  13. FFS The SFA are funded by fans of ALL clubs and probably the Scottish Government ?

Is it not possible that someone ( and there are many) much more smarter than me to DEMAND that the 5WA MUST be made public ?

If ( however secret) the 5WA was/is, then how can The SFA or anyone else refuse to have it made public, IF the SFA believe that it is perfectly fair to EVERY Club ?

    Whats to hide ?

  16. The irony of the 5WA is not lost on even an eejit like me.

To have McCoist on board in discussions and decisions that were made in SECRET in relation to the 5WA ?……………Surely McCoist ( of all peepul) should be champing at the bit to have the 5WA made public…..after all wasn’t he the same McCoist who was shouting from the rooftops about wanting the NAMES of the Panel that fined Sevco…..I seem to remember his words ” I demand to know names….who are these people” ?

If you, after watching the match here, you suddenly found yourself in Kazarhstan you’d have missed the match by 5 hours.

A better idea would be to find yourself in Las Vegas where the match wouldn’t even have kicked off.
