Astana, Hedge Funds, Longmuir to Newco

1274

After full time on Saturday Celtic fly east to play Shakhter Karagandy in Kazakhstan, which is five hours ahead of UK time, but fortunately kick off on Tuesday is 9pm local time, 4pm in the UK, so the team will not have to adjust body clocks.  Such a long flight immediately after a game is not without risk, though.

Muscles need to stretch and move freely after exertion.  Players will need an exercise routine for the plane to mitigate the risk of the kind of strain injuries we see so often.  Get a schedule for them to walk up and down the plane every hour.

I expect Celtic will have a scout at the Astana Arena for Friday’s game between Astana and Shakhter Karagandy but it might not be too revealing.  The Shakhter coach and first team squad didn’t even attend the game prior to their last Champions League qualifier against Albanians, Korce.  They were locked away in preparation as the second team were deployed for the league game.

It’s back to the Astana Arena, with its plastic pitch and closable roof, which is 135 miles from Karagandy, for the visit of Celtic, who will be hoping the pitch is a better standard than the one they played on in Sweden last week.  Neil Lennon could perhaps put a call into his former team-mate, Aiden McGeady, who played on the surface for Ireland 11 months ago (Ireland won the World Cup qualifier after being a goal down with a minute of normal time left).

Longmuir to Rangers International

It was a clear five months ago we ran the story, Longmuir and the Newco job, saying “Speculation that Mr Longmuir is taking care of current business until he is ready to move to Newco is becoming hard to ignore”.  Back then CQN suggested that if Longmuir “loses his ability to be a dealmaker” there might not be much he could offer such a high-flying football team.

If the SPFL are surprised, they shouldn’t be. Anything other information Mr Doncaster wants I’ll be happy to help.

The March article linked above also speculates that Newco could go into administration this season, lose players and suffer a points penalty, resulting in relegation. Don’t know how I missed the target so badly with that one……

Charlotte Fakes revelations from last night will have been news to no one here, but they will embarrass more than a few elsewhere.  What the Scottish football authorities must now consider are actions, and guidance and advice to Scottish Football League clubs during the last year.

“Have we actually offered him a job”?  There’s one chief exec who is delivering £500k of comedy value per annum. Here’s a phrase which might come in helpful soon, “It’s too late, we’ve no money, you can’t deliver what we wanted and you’re useless”.

Has anyone suggested that being owned by a Hedge Fund is like a new signing?  Positions are being adopted for the bun fight ahead.  It will not be pretty.

Have you signed up for the 1254125 Great Scottish Run yet?  For serious runners there is a 10k or Half Marathon to choose from, but there are shorter distances, from 1 mile, for the less-athletic and for kids.  With the soul of our game being chased by so many unappealing influences this is a great way to anchor Celtic back where the story started.

Get involved, guidance tips here.

Anyone else who presents a Daily Record transfer story to me as fact is getting a right dirty look.

  1. Rangers latest: Kieran Prior: I tried to buy out Charles Green.. but it was like negotiating with a chimp for a banana

    14 Aug 2013 07:38

LONDON financier Prior revealed he had made two offers to buy the Yorkshireman’s shares but had been rebuffed.

Prior fell in love with Gers as a kid Prior fell in love with Gers as a kid

KIERAN PRIOR has revealed how he failed twice in a bid to buy out Charles Green – as Rangers fans last night again demanded the axe for their former chief executive.

London financier Prior told Record Sport how he offered 34 and 34.5 pence for Green’s five million penny shares within the last fortnight.

With added premiums, it would have netted the Yorkshireman £2.3m for his 7.56 per cent stake – but he didn’t even call to reject the offers.

The news comes as Rangers fans demanded chief executive Craig Mather calls a board meeting within the next 24 hours to sack consultant Green.

They want action after yesterday’s Record Sport story that revealed Green had promised to back close pal Imran Ahmad in a £3.4million legal action against the club.

Ibrox investor Prior says he’s still undecided about which way to vote at the forthcoming EGM and refused to back Jim McColl unless the tycoon commits his cash.

He also said ex-Ibrox director Dave King is trying to move in by offering shareholders 30p a share for their stock.

Prior said: “I’ve twice bid for Green’s stock in its entirety. He told me to put my money where my mouth is and on each occasion I had to call him for an answer.

“He then said he wouldn’t even sell to me for £50 a share.

“It has been like trying to negotiate with a chimpanzee for a banana.

“He either wants to drag the club under or hold out for more cash. If it’s the latter, he should negotiate better.

“While Green remains focused on individual battles, the club will never get anywhere. He is the most disruptive influence of all.”

Prior also explained he is not yet backing McColl because the businessman refuses to purchase shares.

Prior said: “If he wants to get involved he should buy a significant number.”

He also revealed he held meetings in London on Monday with Mather and Ibrox finance boss Brian Stockbridge.

He is adamant the club will not go bust, as predicted by King.

Prior added: “Craig impressed me. I don’t believe administration is on the cards.

“King’s comments may have something to do with his standing bid for the club at 30p a share. He could be trying to panic investors out.”

Pressure is mounting on Mather to act against Green after he agreed last Thursday to hold a board meeting to discuss his future following his return as a consultant.

A fan statement last night said: “The Rangers Supporters Association, Assembly and Trust have called for Craig Mather to take strong action against Charles Green at the next board meeting.

“Since Thursday we’ve had Mr Green’s farcical challenge to a TV debate and the news his colleague Imran Ahmad intends to sue the club for £3.4m with Mr Green as a supporting witness.

“Either of these makes his position untenable. We call on directors to act decisively and remove this continuing source of instability.”

Rangers have already vowed to “robustly defend” any legal action taken against the club by former commercial director Ahmad, who was axed in April after being accused of leaking sensitive information to a fan website.

Ahmad has confirmed Record Sport’s exclusive yet, astonishingly, claimed he will reinvest any money he receives from a court battle back into the club.

He said: “It’s true the club owes me money. Charles has agreed to tell the truth if it goes to court. I am due a five per cent bonus on all the commercial deals I negotiated.

“I’m hardly going to turn my back on a bonus due to me when I’ve negotiated £67m worth of contracts which benefit the club over the next five to 10 years.

“I had also offered to reinvest all my bonus plus another £500,000 back into the club.”

Meanwhile, Laxey Partners Ltd has increased its stake in Rangers to 4.99 per cent after buying two million shares on Monday.

It is unclear who sold the shares, although Green can’t transfer his stock until December.

Prior said: “I was not offered this stock. Perhaps the seller directed it to a party they knew would vote a certain way at the egm.”

  4. Scott had a good game last night , marshalled the midfield well and played the English wunderkid, Wiltshire out of the game, as it wore on.

Jamsie had the thankless task of protecting Hutton , however on occasions where he tried to take Baines on by going right , the shoulder dip was a giveaway and Baines easily dispossessed. Jamsie should just have knocked it past and raced; all his best work was when he came inside.

Is it me , Stevie G is this a season too far or just getting up to speed? Thought he was really poor and young Wiltshire good player but far from the world beater. Real problems at the back for England , I suspect the RB will be dropped and Baines against a better team will spend most of the game out of position. The centre halfs are poor. They will require and get other results to go in their favour to qualify for Brasil.

Scotland full back positions are weak so we need to sit in which makes it a tough shift for everyone.

Good run out for the Celtic boys for Saturday

  6. Morning all. Wind and rain once again our daily fare.

I hope last Saturday’s game and last night’s International help to show how well our Club are doing. I think we could well have beaten that Scottish team and quite possibly the English one too. Certainly, mhan for man, we have better players than Scotland and, whlile the Enlish might have better players (in some positions) we are a better team.

  8. Morning, wee bit damp but verdant in the Chlterns…

Good performance by Scotland last night, I probably watch more England matches than most on here and can say I have never seen the New Wembley with an atmosphere close to that.

Good to see Gordon going all out for a result, passion and commitment a plenty.

Thought Scott was excellent done a Captains job, maturing into an excellent Professional.

Watched the highlights show on ITV, Southgate had three snide digs at Broonie, noticed a few digs when we were on ITV4 before, if he’son next week I’ll be listening.

Apart from that the Commentary and pundits were much better than we normally have to put up with in this day&age.

Also weren’t the aul Ex-Gers well behaved, just shows what can be accomplished when you stay on your feet and forget about the less cynical aspects of the game.

He didn’t make it at Seville,so went home to Finland.

Did ok at Helsinki against Shalke , so Shalke took a punt on him.

Has scored 6 in 24 for Shalke.

Not holding down a place .

They have decided he is not for them, so will move him on.

Sounds about right for a Celtic striking target these days.

Could all be a lot of pish, however.

Congrats to your boy. York is a lovely city, only downside of our last visit was discovering its the stag and hen party capital of the north these days!

Still for a student you need to fit some downtime in as well as the studies, hope he has fun, need to go back there for a visit one of these days soon.

  20. It seems to me that in addition to the made up pash from the Daily Record – when Celtic are after a target they seem to make several tentative offers for different players.

It seems like a tactic to signal to other teams that we might go elsewhere. Im never sure sometimes which are the targets and which are the feints/off-targets.
