  1. A Dun you have obviously seen the guy play then ?

Clearly you know more than the polish league managers who voted him.

  2. glendalystonsils on

Nawrocki is a head scratcher . Should have been a good’un on paper but unfortunately the game’s not played on paper . Must have accidently gobbed on Brendan’s shiny shoes or something .

  3. Agree that the CQN post-match report is way more negative than the reality was tonight.

Plucky, nearly boys is what we were.

This trend on the site of writing provocatively damning articles about Celtic is what should be called ‘Ticbait’.

  4. Holm and Nawrocki are the type of signings an amateur scout would identify – a top 20 under 20 list and go from there…

The world is full of players who ripped it up in their youth but simply weren’t good enough for senior level football.

  5. Good recovery 1st half after horrendous start

Result was a far outcome imo.

Bada 10.22 spot on.now i hope they go and get.

  6. Brendan sees all these guys in training, he knows best,no queue of clubs for the discarded ones, possibly due to wages, for the naysayers ,both financially doped Red Bull clubs didn’t qualify.

  7. The new format is brilliant, every goal counts, all up for grabs until the last kick of the last game

  8. Those who don’t like CQN because it izny pretentious enough should try Suckullent Celts.

Tell honest Boaby I forgive him and wish him all the best.

Well done PLC for giving Rodgers a lot of £££££-backing well done.

Maybe next manager could be able to learn lessons and not keep repeating daft arse mistakes?

Tippy Tappy is boring unless we’re playing a bottom 6 SPL Team with zero money.

If Ange returns – then Parkhead needs to be emptied.

But, when 60,000 feckless sheep just suck…then Justice will not be seen anywhere near Parkhead.

We used to be the best fans in the world, now we are daft tartan trumpets playing at being Irish rebels whilst Ireland has moved on to be colonised by evil monsters from the emptied prisons of every NATO crushed country.

No Gerry Adams leading Sinn Fein = Ireland the end.

The Norn Ire Huns call Scotland fans “The Tartan Trannies” and if Tims are seen to be mixing with these trash cans, deserved trouble is bound to visit you.

As Kev J used to say “Park The Bus – And be the muggers not the mugs.”

    He was correct you know.

  9. A few comments about missing CCV tonight.

Fact is, had CCV not scored for Bruges, Celtic would have finished 15th and be facing a play-off against Benfica or Monaco with Liverpool or Barcelona next if winning that play-off. And Zagreb would have made it through to the play-offs at Bruges’ expense.

    Ifs and buts.

The weak link in defence for me (and not just in this game) is Trusty. He is too slow in running and reactions and doesn’t appear to have the best positional awareness. Looking at their respective appearances, we are far less likely to concede when Scales partners CCV than when Trusty partners either CCV or Scales. We only started conceding goals in the SPL after Trusty came in to replace the injured CCV.

To improve our chances of reaching, and progressing from, next season’s CL group stage, I reckon we still need a new, quick, tall and solid CH and a clinical, quick striker with the vision and movement of Kyogo.

  10. 4-2-3-1 next year pls

engels wss magnificent tonight and needs to take the defensive position with barnardo

    Hail Hail

  11. I’m guessing, and as such I could be wrong, that none of us thought that, if we made it to the CL last 16 play-offs, we would end up playing Bayern Munich or Real Madrid, two bona fide Euro Greats.

Fact is though we are still in the new CL, coulda done better, might have done worse, beginning to rebuild a good home Euro record, over the last couple of seasons which bodes well for any future qualifiers. Anyways, Man City finished just behind us, Real in front, so either are among the great Euro clubs. Lets wait for the “draw” on Friday!

  12. garygillespieshamstring on

I don’t believe BR was making a point to the board.

If playing Murray and Cummings was to send a message to the board, BR should be ashamed of himself.

Why would a guy who prides himself in developing players throw a youngster into a game like that to make a point?

  13. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning CQN.

I liked this from Celtic Mac ….

“Fact is though we are still in the new CL, coulda done better, might have done worse, beginning to rebuild a good home Euro record”

We’re not good enough yet to play consistently well at this level – with a genuine chance of regularly beating teams ranked 10 to 30.

If we’d been slightly better? … we might have sneaked past Bruges and Zagreb and stifled Villa to take a point last night.

If my auntie was a man stuff though …

The next two seasons will be interesting and possibly tough for us fans.

We have a good chance of winning the league this year.

    If we do …

We may not win the single Champions League play off next season.

If we do – fantastic (I’m still hacked off a losing an automatic place to Czech Republic by coefficient equivalent of goal difference but hey ho)

But we might get a tough draw, be competitive and pick up 8 – 12 points.

Season after that? …. IF we can win the league?

CL qualification involves more qualifiers again.

    Tough to navigate.

  14. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Team clearly needs more athleticism and power.

Glaringly obvious how the absence of such impacted us against Dortmund, Zagreb, Bruges and Villa.

For me there are a couple of players who – if we are being ruthless here? – simply do not have the athletic capacity to make it at this level.

    Villa are an interesting case.

Monaco and Bruges basically matched their power and pace and Villa had no footballing answers as a result.

  15. I see there is about of chat about partial stadium closure or away fan bans for next game due to someone throwing a pyro on last night. I must have missed that. Did anyone notice it at all ?

I Really hope it doesn’t come to that.

  16. A roller coaster game last night, thats for sure.

REO HATATE was excellent, and with a wee bit of luck he might have scored at least one goal ?

IDAH, ENGELS and JOHNSTON also played pretty well for most of the game, but we did NOT have strong bench and it showed towards the end.

I hope that his Two Goals last night at CL Level will give ADAM IDAH more confidence, especially when JOTA comes into the team.

Yet again, YANG was hopeless I am sorry to say, but several Celts played pretty well in spells.

Like some others on here, I am left to wonder WHY Brendan didnt use Tony Ralston, although maybe Dane Murray was the choice for Liam Scales who MAY have been knackered late on ?

    We certainly missed DIAZEN MAEDA.

So we are faced with either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the next round….WHAT about all those ” EXPERTS” on here who were saying that IF Celtic lose v Villa, we would then face ” lesser opposition” in the next round ?

    CONFUSED….You Betcha ?

  17. 1. Why complain about too may ads – simply use an adblocker -you can download Ghostery for free.

    2. Any commentator who takes themselves seriously would note that when we play more competitive teams we are easily sliced open, both domestically and in Europe.

    3. I’m not sure it was just the absence of CCV as our backline seem to read the game poorly at times. It’s worrying as that’s the fourth time in recent months is it not that we’ve let in three or more goals.

    4. Jota has already admitted he’s not fully match fit but are Engels and Idah? Kaspar looks a bit overweight these days too.

Sorry, I don’t get carried away easily. I appreciate what the team and the manager have achieved but it only shows they can do better with a little bit better and more fit players. The guys on here are among the more perceptive fans I’ve come across and so are the guys on Celtic Fans TV and they’re all saying we need another winger as don’t see Yang ever making the grade, another CH big and strong and fast and another striker – I concur.

  18. ILJASB – Jota may not be match fit but he should be ready to play. He has no injuries and has been training to play since he moved to Rennes. DOn’t think it will take him long to be at full speed, he clearly looks after himself. Might take longer to get his gallusness back.

Engels not match fit? Not sure why you would question him. Regularly plays and no injuries and looked sharp last night.

Idah? BR wants him to press more but he is no willow the wisp, Kyogo-like figure. He is a big unit and not designed to bomb about the park chasing defenders. Last night should really help his confidence which was in the gutter due to his lack of goals. A happy and confident Idah will score plenty of goals (but to me an hour a game in a pressing game is probably the sweet spot).

Kasper has been overweight since he arrived, after Christmas that was especially noticeable but older goalkeepers seem to get a bit of leniency with this. I remember the Polish coach slamming Boruc for showing up for international games clearly out of shape.

  19. Bhoyjoebelfast on

I wasn’t aware about smoke bomb as it was not reported by TNT commentary team.I read it this morning Daily Mail (English edition). online.

  20. I thought it interesting, apart from the football on display, that when Neil Lennon and the commentator were discussing John McGinn’s Celtic connections as he prepared to come on to the pitch; boyhood supporter, family connections, Neil said the following, ‘ yes his granddad Jack was the President of the SFA’. What has that got to do with his Celtic connections? Surely the more relevant story about his Celtic connections is that his granddad Jack was Chairman of Celtic?! How did Lennon not know that?

  21. We probably have landed the toughest draw possible for the play off round but looking at the final 24 in the table, are there any teams that we would be likely to beat over two legs?

I’d give us a chance against Brugge and Brest but I don’t think I’d be betting on us making it past any of those teams. Interestingly had we been braver in our away draw which I thought was there for the winning we’d be facing Monaco or Brest I think. Possibly a missed opportunity but we might have also lost and be 24th facing Borussia/Atlanta.

Of the two we could face, I am hoping for Bayern as the “lesser” of two tough, tough opponents.

Why would a guy who prides himself in developing players throw a youngster into a game like that to make a point?

The only thing BR did was sub tired or injured players (Idah pulled up after taking that near post shot). Kenny was cup tied and Kyogo sold. So Cummings got the call.

CCV was injured and Stephen Welsh was moved on this window so Murray got his shot. It’s very clear that BR doesn’t rate Nawrocki. This may be down to Brendan not ‘developing’ him, or possibly, Nawrocki may just be a very poor player – the seeming lack of transfer interest in him this window would suggest the latter.

  23. If we can nick a draw at CP to keep our excellent run of home form going then I’d be very happy.

Real or Bayern are capable of putting 6 or more past us, Bayern putting 9 past Zagreb earlier in the competition. Avoiding a mauling will be the aim.

“It’s very clear that BR doesn’t rate Nawrocki. This may be down to Brendan not ‘developing’ him, or possibly, Nawrocki may just be a very poor player – the seeming lack of transfer interest in him this window would suggest the latter.”

If I may suggest a third option; Nawrocki lacks something BR values in his defenders, possibly pace? I don’t think any of Holm, Lager or Rocky are “very poor players” – Lager played well against Sevco for me and showed some good passing – one in particular that cut the lines and set up a goal was a beaut.

I’d like to think the above rather than BR playing power games for control over recruitment which is another option I’ve heard often and would hope as with other players who got nowhere near it for Celtic, such as Klimala, that it is more the case of a bad fit than bad players and we might yet get our money back as we have done so many times much to our surprise.

I would have liked to have seen Holm given a wee run personally but it was not to be and if Rocky is not in the future plans then we should play kids ahead of him though Scales to me did not look like he had run his race so whilst I get the Idah sub – feeling his calf after shooting rather than crossing to Palma – and Kenny being cup tied (which I forgot!) – the CB sub I found strange – might have given him a go vs Raith first…

  25. I forgot to give a mention to Big KASPER earlier who played very well, apart from one very poor kick out.

Lets now take 4 or 5 Goals off Motherwell on Sunday….Hopefully ?

Will JOTA play on Sunday ? I certainly don’t know .

Can we maybe get 45/60 minutes outta him ?

    HH.

  26. BIGCHIPSUK on 30TH JANUARY 2025 12:32 AM

Scales is simply not up to CL , see not closing down for 2nd goal as an example and when the Villa CF ran off him and nearly bagged a 4th , he got hooked.

Trusty is not a long term solution either …. We need a transformation at the back is still my view. CCV is a big lhad and managing his fitness as he gets older will be tricky.

We needed to match the big English brutes , their not that good at actual football!

We have to pray for Bayern in Fridays draw , we’d have a chance against them but equally we’d have unfortunately very little chance against RM.

    Onwardsupwardscfc

Ps Nawrocki is too slow and would mean our defence would need to drop 10 yards against better teams , it’s really that simple. Holm was a very good Norwegian youth but doesn’t understand the ame does revolve him and he needs to run back etc etc

  27. Bhoyjoebelfast

Ah yes. I see the Scottish Coefficient guys mask slipped a bit revealing his true colours last night hammering that one out.

I hadn’t even noticed it until it was reported.

  28. I see on X that Rennes have fired their coach Sampaoli. Maybe the new coach won’t fancy Kyogo . . . .

  29. An T

The leap to last 16 qualification is massive and really stark at £9m. That said we could have gained another £2.1m by holding on for the draw.

A win last night and Zagreb would have added £14m to our kitty. Not a crazy consideration if we had our full team out and got a wee break of the ball.

Still hopefully we get some over confident Germans relieved they have avoided Man City in the draw and not as prepared for Maeda in the second leg in Munich.

  30. Deniabhoy

That is bonkers to let a coach buy and sell £20m of assets and then fire him a few days later
