  1. Burnley 78 – he only managed 10 games. Won 3, lost 7. Fabrizio Romano and L’Equipe say it will be announced today.

    Interesting chat re flare incident.

I was watching on TV and saw nothing.

    Maybe I just missed it.

Maybe there was nothing to see.

“Souring Celtic’s Milk” is standard operating procedure for swathes of the MSM and the blog/twitter sphere.

Across the MSM it’s 80% driven by commercial imperative. They need competition to stimulate consumer interest which then yields clicks, sales of physical copy, or subscriptions.

Celtic being so far ahead of the current Ibrox incarnation is BAD for business.

When you can’t close the gap in reality? Make up stuff.

    That other 20% driver?

    Plain and simple.

Blue noses out of joint in positions where they should be, but are not, managed or held accountable.

As for those who try to sour our milk in cyberspace?

Blue noses out of joint who “can’t handle the truth”.

One could spend time and energy engaging and rebutting … but what’s the point?

These clowns will never face facts and it diverts energy better spent enjoying our success.

But, just quickly, on a couple of specifics

    1. Kasper hasn’t read their script.

He was supposed to be an over the hill, older than Joe, almost out to pasture, lazy unimaginative stop gap.

He’s excelled. His performance and his outcomes cannot be realistically challenged.

So his waistline is the target.

    2. R2ngers coefficient heavy lifting contribution was fact three years ago. It is now a myth in the rear view mirror – a bit like the club itself.

Fact – the Scottish club making the largest contribution to Scotland’s coefficient over the last three years?

    Shhh (whisper it)

    C****c.

  3. BACK TO BASICS

Some excellent posting from you as ever.

That balanced and well thought out reasoning that the sadly missed SFTB brought to the blog is very evident in your musings.

Something I believe most of us share but don’t manage to articulate it as well.

Personally – I’ll be glad when Maik goes out on loan.

It will more or less bring an end to a distracting chapter.

Brendan Rodgers came back in the summer of 2023.

New signings (not loan conversions) handed to him were Kwon, Tillo, Yang, Gustaf, Maik, Paulo, Odin and Luis).

Brendan has rejected all but one of these guys.

The rights and wrongs debates have simmered away in the background.

Positions have been set and then entrenched.

Now just needs a line drawn under it (IMHO)

    Borgo67 – cheers.

For full transparency – In my heart I get as emotional, reactionary and perhaps even as unreasonable as any Celtic fan out there.

That thing that provides our common connection, identity, passion, joy and pride …

… our wonderful, truly remarkable football club

… should always be our unifier

Reminder to anyone planning to set out for the do at Johnstone later that it has been cancelled. Already been posted on here and sc.

  7. Good morning from a bright and sunny but frosty North Saffs.

Didn’t watch the game but followed it on here. I think after 5 mins we would have accepted a 4-2 loss.

I’m happy with the first game being at our place – full house and at least we start still in the tie. Bayern would be my preferred option.

    Funny ole game in Aston.

The new ‘talismanic’ Adam Idah shut the bashers up and proved he could be a bargain at least compared to Ollie Watkins. Celts already through, were minus two more difference makers in Daizen Maeda and Carter Vickers. It proved costly in the Holte End and could have been worse, were it not for Brendan Rodgers at least having the good sense to keep Kasper Schmeichel’s moby number.

Religiously sticking with one striker and two wide men meant more game time for Yang, as fit as a fiddle he gave his all but will probably do the same at a different club next season. Competitive in the CL, astonishing the progress Celtic have made since coming out from the Cluj ( and other such games ).BR fittingly with his EPL nous, introduced Celtic to a whole new level.

Ding dong battling with the richest league in the world, we didn’t look at all out of place in spells and passed Villa off the park for a whole first two minutes, only to lose a bad goal in the home side’s first meaningful attack. This was quickly followed by a deflection, that fizzed past Schmeichel giving the big Dane no chance.

Big Adam only had to be told once, he was the main man before he duely finished twice, from parts quickly forgotten Kyogo, had never reached.

With the whole game now as stretched as Auston Trusty and Liam Scales something had to give, unfortunately it was Liam’s tired legs that went first. Another double, the second was solely down to Dane Murray who unfortunately had gotten caught up by the occasion of a very difficult game and time to debut. Going by our bench, and substitutes last night we can expect Celtic to have two more reinforcements by the time the window closes gently. A ready made striker and Kieran Tierney in a very welcome home coming should just about cover it, for the treble yell and another big night in Parkhead.

Viewing the eye watering figures of how much we earn from this competition, makes it all the more worthwhile. BR’s insistence in spending from what we earn gives Celtic supporters, great heart whilst SMSM and our detractors get the fear.

Difficult to know what to make of that. Some encouraging signs, also plenty to be concerned about.

Good recovery from the bad start, but again carelessness proved to be costly. Mistakes will be ruthlessly punished at this level.

Seems like the “Norwich reserve” can do the business in the Champions League anyway, which is great for all who want to see him succeed.

  10. I assume we recalled Dane Murray to provide cover for Welsh and to allow him the chance to impress. His mistake last night may haunt him for a while but it did not cost us the game and hopefully he will recover.

But we still badly need an experienced CH who is at least the equal to CCV and securing one should be a priority. Scales and Trusty are honest, hard working players but are not consistent or reliable in a position that requires both those attributes.

CCV is a level above all our CHs but his injury record means he is unavailable too often.

I don’t hold out much hope that we will address this but fingers crossed it is being looked at.

  11. Delighted to see Idah do well last night. Hopefully he really can kick on now.

Johnston and Taylor both very good also.

  12. CCV does seem to be injured a lot around the Champions league games.

I love the guy but there does seem a pattern.

  13. Obviously we have not signed anyone who can seriously impact in the CL but moved on a few who may have played a part eg Kyogo and Valle. We will also miss Maeda from the next game

Any ideas from anyone as to who we should be or could be bringing in ?

If they are to make a difference this season then it needs to be soon.

  14. onenightinlisbon on

Last night could have been much worse as I am sure most of us thought after the two goals went in. We showed great fight to get back into the game.

Unfortunately as we all know, guys like Yang & Palma are simply not good enough at this level and require to be moved on asap (hopefully Palma in the next few days).

Bringing on two inexperienced youngsters is great against Ross County or St Mirren but not against a team like Villa.

Not sure I subscribe to the idea that the manager was sending out a message (Lewis Morgan up front against the Huns sort of thing)……But I do think Nawroki was due at least a few minutes on the park.

Idah however proved himself a worthy number 9 but we do need a quality striker in to replace Kyogo.

Overall, we have achieved what we set out to in Europe, let’s hope the manager gets backed with the reinforcements we need.
