At least one club will be supported through and through

1118

I can’t tell you how many statements I’ve read from those trying to bring down Newco Rangers (bonne chance) but not one comes near to approaching the key question: what can they offer the the men and women who own shares in Newco to convince them to accommodate their future aspirations?

Threats, intimidation and blackmail are all possible incentives, but no one has actually put a case forward which would compensate the investment made by the shareholders who, let’s remember, own all club assets.

An enormous assumption appears to have been made that hedge funds and various Easdales will capitulate and simply walk away and sign their paid-for assets over to a group who are regularly abusive towards them.  It’s like 2012 all over again, when parts of the world assumed HMRC would capitulate and agree to a CVA for Oldco, despite all genuine evidence (i.e. published policy) indicating otherwise.

Game Theorists would have a ball with this scenario.  Shareholders are being offered a choice, hand over your assets to a hostile opponent or attempt to continue with a vastly reduced business.  The former option should not be taken seriously.

Question is, where does this particular game end?  It’ll not be in an outcome satisfactory to many of those dreaming of ‘competing with Celtic’ anytime soon.

This mind-set should be familiar.  It’s the same one which blamed Celtic, or small-minded small clubs, the SPL and/or SFA, blamed anyone, in fact, apart from those who endorsed years of overspend at Rangers, for their eventual demise.

Walking headlong into unsustainable debt is no different than walking headlong into a conflict with hedge funds who would sell your valued acre for landfill rather than be held to ransom.

I’ll renew my season tickets tonight (still annoyed I didn’t do so in time for the free ticket draw).  Whatever happens in the wider scheme of Scottish football, one club will be supported ‘through and through’.

And shouldn’t it be Partick Chardon? (checks carefully for typos before posting!)

  2. Another question – how much of the Celtic TV money is profit that can be used to support football operations and how much is going to keep the TV show running?

Chemise is it a man’s shirt and is chemisier a woman’s blouse. Though is it “une chemise et un chemisier”? which would make the masculine, feminine, and the French a bunch of travestis confuses.

  15. Boa tarde,

Back at work today, after the state holiday for St George yesterday.

Fair bit of Libertadores action last night and a significant suprise with Lanus elimiating Santos. This means Mexico now join Peru, Ecuador and Venezuela in having no further interest in the tournament.

Final first leg game (El Arse v Union Espanola) tonight, will stick something up about that, after I’ve been for my lunchtime peece.

    Read on….

    Nacional 1 v Velez Sarsfield 0

I started to watch this game (and fell asleep). Nacional, the 16th seed, playing the Velez, the top seed and it looked like it for the first half. Velez never looked ruffled and always threatened thru, that man Lucas Pratto. Oddly enough his strike partner, Zuratta never left the bench all night, which manager Turu Flores said was a “tactical decision”

Nacional scored in the 42nd minute of the second half with a “was it handball/was it over the line” from Benitez.

Still, fancy Velez to do the business at home next week.

    San Lozenzo 1 v Gremio 0

A well taken Angel Correa goal was all that separate these two sides. Gremio minus several key players, looked very lop-sided in this. SL pressed high (which isolated the Gremio front men), but failed to turn possession to their advantage.

Gremio hoping that a full house (and a fully fit team) will do the business next week. SL hoping that their Number One fan puts a good word in for them before that.

    Atlético Nacional 1 v Atlético Mineiro 0

A very lethargic Galo thought they’d done just about enough to secure a draw in this one, when up popped Cardenas with a 20yd screamed in the 46th minute of the second half.

Nacional unlucky (again) not to be several goals in front, as they peppered the Galo goal throughout this match.

Two other players worthy of mention here – Galo keeper, Victor who had (yet another) night when he played out of his skin and National’s striker, Duque who had a barrel load of chances in this game.

Galo will fancy themselves at home. National will be hoping that they have Medina fit.

    Santos Laguna 0 v Lanus 2

Without a doubt the shock of the night.

Lanus came out and went at Santos all night. Both Lanus goals coming from terrible Santos defending (second goal was a pen). Santos also had Renteiro sent of for trying to “McCulloch” an opponent.

Lanus now proceed to face Bolivar in the QF’s. Santos need to sort their defence out.
