Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

On subject of suspensions, Tom Rogic’s yellow card for excessive celebration in Cup Final means he will miss our first Scottish Cup tie on 20th January. Bet he’s broken hearted !

That film “Miasto ruin” is digital reconstruction of Warsaw post Uprising. It’s pictures mostly taken from american aircraft Liberator (I think early Spring 1945). Germans decided to level the city.

and anyone else going to Madrid. Go to Restaurant “Casa Mingo” on Calle Florida. (taxi will know) Fantastic chicken and Cidra (cider} from Asturias. Next corner, same side of street has a beautiful little church with fantastic paintings on the cielling. Well worth a visit, not many tourists more Madrilenos.

    Delaneys Dunky,

First off, apologies for mis-spelling yoir nom de blog earlier :-)

It was great to meet you too, as well as Oldtim, Blantyretim, Pogmathonyahun, Weeron and his brother from Kintore ( lovely place ) and the other fine CQN’ers who were there, but my diminishing powers of recall prevent me from naming. To a man, friendly and welcoming people, and great company. Just leaves me looking forward to my next trip ‘home’ to Paradise.

Special mention to Sipsinin, my constant chaperone, for his introductions to so many fine people.

One last thing…….spectacles ? Aye, as long as you don’t make me go to the same place where Sipsini buys his glasses :-))))))

  11. Great for the plc getting a windfall of around 5 million if VVD.

But what will it do for the team?

Will it be used to strengthen our player pool or just be a number on our oft celebrated glorious balance sheet?

Have we now come to laud the balance sheet as it reinforces our superiority over the huns?

  12. Ntcham or Kouassi a replacement for Armstrong?, not for me they won’t,

2 very good players no doubt but I don’t see 17 goals between them let alone one of them achieving this target,

Armstrong could give us 20+ goals this season, a figure not seen for 40 odd yrs since Ronnie Glavin hit 26 in the mid 70s, every successful Celtic team in my time watching had a genuine goalscorer from midfield,

Whilst no man is bigger than Celtic, this is one player I’ll be sorry to lose.

Amazing how 30 year old Lee Wallace is considered a ‘young’ captain too. :)

  16. Govan X Bhoy,

I think everyone wants Armstrong to stay and I rate both of those new bhoys very highly.

Problem we face is the silly money on offer at mediocre clubs in England. Triple your wages and play for Burnley or stick with us and get booted by Greg Tansey 4 times a season for a fraction of your weekly pay…

Armstrong, I suspect, will take the dough. No massive pull to us a la Tierney….

    Fisiani,

Celtic aren’t employing a QC . The fans are.

Celtic have direct access , as a member of both the SFA and the SPFL. They have already succeeded in a commitment from the SPFL to a wide ranging enquiry . We await the terms of reference of that enquiry. However it will not include the potential to set aside the LNS enquiry, according to Rod McKenzie

Hence the need for the fans to ask a court to do so. The basis is LNS was not provided with relevant evidence of use of unlawful or irregular tax schemes . LNS , by his own words , said he proceeded on the basis that these schemes were lawful. He also stated that the SPL had rules to prevent breaches of Sporting Integrity and he found Rangers guilty of that , but not in a manner that provided Sporting Advantage.

Based on what was hidden from LNS plus what has been ruled on by the Supreme Court , that conclusion by LNS looks fundamentally flawed

The SFA have failed completely in their role as protector of the game. I have no doubt whatsever that Celtic want fundamental change there. However at this stage the fans don’t have a specific decision that the SFA have made , in regards to the Sporting Advantage , that was the subject of an independent panel, and therefore open to a JR request

I agree that the non decisions described above by BRTH should be the subject and included in an SFA commissioned fully independent review . However as yet they have decided a 3 monkeys approach is all we are getting . Lets see if Celtic get enough support from other clubs on this one.
