  1. Athletico Madrid have some excellent players….especially Griezmann and Riquelme.

However, I have ALWAYS HATED that so called Fitbs Club since 1974….They were VILE then….and they are STILL VILE in so many ways, despite having some excellent players.

DIAZENS Red Card……….HERMOSO and his team mates did ALL they could to get Maeda sent aff, with HERMOSO FAKING serious injury after DIAZENS challenge. Funny how HERMOSO was UP and running about….No problem… for the rest of the game AFTER DIAZENS challenge ?

CHEATS then and CHEATS NOW !

Martin O’Neill and Brendan called it correctly….” How can VAR make ANY fair decision based on a STILL PHOTO ” ?

Lets GUB the Dons on Sunday….Big Time.

    GOOD on Ye MICK.

You are ALWAYS ” Positive” about The Celts no matter the score line.

SIMONE and his Cheating Mob, and the Refs and VAR Officials ( At home and abroad) will NEVER dampen my love for The HOOPS.

Tell PADDY that I was asking for him please.

Easterhouse was BUILT!!! Well I never! :)) por cierto

I was Born in The TOONHEID, but soon after I moved to EASTERHOOSE with my Grand Parents around 1960 ?

I was the brought up in Easterhoose until I got married in 1977. I LOVED my time in ” The HOOSE”.

FACT….I can still clearly remember going ” TATTIE PICKING” with my Granny ( Wee Maw) and her Metal Wheel Barrow.

At that time Easterhoose was mostly ” FIELDS”, with few schools built and NO shopping centre, NO swimming Pool etc…..

Wee Bhoys like me just played Fitba in the street every day and night….even if we ONLY had a Tennis Ball to play with.

    Happy, Happy Days.

  4. Whoever is responsible for the side articles please note the ref was a Slovak not a Slovenian, the ref in Seville 2003 was also a Slovak. Still garbage and still homers.

  5. Previous posts have said virtually everything.

    My observations:

What was Maeda thinking about in that area of the park. Was he not aware that play acting and dubious refeering decisions would be forthcoming.

To me it was a harsh red, but why give them a decision to make. So unnecessary.

AM although a good team were made to look much better than what they are.

We could have lost a lot more than six by the final whistle.

Physically we looked slower and lighter than AM.

Mentally we lost it. Our players looked absolutely Shell shocked on close up views.

We won no second balls. None.

Oh was my Celtic player of the match.

Goalkeeper. If your going to punch the ball, then f@ cking punch it. And stop palming balls out , guide it round the post.

Watched the game with circa 12 Celtic supporters,at the end there were only 5 of us left and for one of them his main focus was distain at the commentary anchor calling us Chelsea. ” Faithfull through and through ” eh.

Finally I hope that everyone who made the journey had a ball in Madrid; because the football was dire.

Confine the black strip to the pub, beach and stands. Black in colour, black in outlook.

Finally I absolutely f@ cking detest the phrase ” Lessons will be learned”

    HH Onward to Sunday

  6. Right Celtic, let’s get a victory on Saturday, last night is in the past.Get this League won,new BR signingsa Keeper right at the top of the list, added to the squad,we will be good to go for next seasons CL.Bollox to the whingers,

How bloody sad their life must be to be continually on here, spouting the same guff every chance they get.One even giving,or trying to,me a hard time for looking forward to Saturday. An absolute pleasure for me to watch the Buoys.

  7. I haven’t read back as post-match, and especially post-match like the one in Madrid can be a difficult trawl. I may well be repeating many who posted but here goes.

We were always up against it last night in Madrid, they are a top quality side, top of la Liga always at the business end of the Champions League. However, their manager is a classless thug, was as a player has got worse as a manager. Their motto as a club is ‘heart and courage’ as the bhoys on Celtic Fans TV said in their post-match video they may have heart and have brilliant players but they have no courage, spending a great deal of games writhing around in agony even if an opponent gets near them, each foul is ‘career ending’ to then miraculously recover after the opponent is booked or in the case of the tragedy that is VAR upgraded to a red as the referee is called over to look at a foul. It was, a yellow card, yes, a high reckless out of control violent contact. No it wasn’t, two players went for the ball, the Madrid player kicked Maeda, red card! As Rodgers said post-match VAR has turned football into a video game. You can’t use a still of a video to ‘prove’ something. Look at the video in real time, as the referee saw it and awarded them a foul and yellow carded Maeda. The Madrid player kicked Maeda, nothing malicious but in real time and in slow motion that was a foul not a red card.

Our passing distribution in the first half was shaky at best, we didn’t really lay a hand on them, but were still in the game. Early goal, down to 10 after 20 minutes, second goal just before half time, game over.

The second half? I’ve no idea. I did something I have never done before when Celtic are playing, I didn’t watch it. The game was concluded after the red card. I’m not saying that we would have won it, far from it, but the game as a spectacle was ruined, VAR changed the course of the game at least in entertainment value. The bhoys on Celtic Fans TV said many Celtic supporters left at half time, again something they had not seen at away games in Europe. VAR will kill the joy, the spectacle of the game with spontaneous moments; passes, goals, ruined by continual checking and rechecking by VAR, the game is a bogey!

  8. Brendan Rodgers watches every week how lesser teams play against us. It’s low block. Avoid a hammering and try to steal something. Presumably he thinks they are wrong and he is right. The comparison is exact from St Johnstone coming to Celtic park and us going to Madrid. Tactics have to change in these games but they never do and the result never changes.

    ……………

    I respectfully DISAGREE GP.

IF Daizen had ” Pulled Out” of that challenge, when the Ball is there to be WON….Some on here would be lambasting him for being a Coward Blah Blah ?

Maeda did little or nothing wrong imho.

The sight of Daizen walking up the tunnel and pulling off his Celtic jersey, told me that DIAZEN was DISGUSTED at the VAR/REF Decision, and maybe with football all together at that moment.

Diazen can NOT be blamed for ANY opposition player FAKING serious injury etc…and screaming for a RED CARD etc

How some of these so called ” Professional Players ” can live with themselves at times…is beyond me ?

    HH mate.

  10. No surprise that the 4 teams from countries outside of the top 7 leagues in Europe in CL action last night have earned just 3 points in total after playing 16 matches this season. Goal difference combined is -32

Celtic are not really the outlier. Despite being the victim of really poor officiating and a fair degree of bad luck.

Neither Young Boys or Red Star or Antwerp have the domestic competition needed to step up in the CL. Like ourselves Red Star are a former winner in more egalitarian times.

Only Feyenoord outside of the top 4 leagues has achieved anything. They have slightly tougher domestic competition with AZ Ajax and PSV and a greeter TV revenue but even they have a lamentable CL record this past 50 years.

Maybe some realism is needed. Playing Aberdeen on Sunday vs last night will be a different sport.

    …………

I meant to add…..at one point in the 2nd half a Celtic player raced by a Athletico player, and the Celtic players arm BRUSHED against the Top of the Althletico players head.

The Scummy Athletico player went down as IF he had been SHOT…..and holding his FACE looking for a Foul and a Card against the Celtic player.

Its called FAKING and CHEATING at every opportunity,

Sorry, but I can’t remember who the players were that were involved in that NOTHING ” Incident”.

Just like Mourinho and his Porto Mob from 2003, SIMONE and his vile Mob have NO CLASS, nor respect for their opponents.

    HH.

  12. I suppose we can only hope to win the last couple of games in the group to save face.

Let’s move on and win the league in double quick time.

  13. glendalystonsils on

I thought playing with 10 men was something we practised and planned for. Not saying we would have got anything from the game against their more talented players but I could not believe how sumissive we looked in that second half. Defence in disarray , Big Joe in full-flap panic mode .

I also agree with whoever posted earlier that we should have been well briefed on their dark arts approach , which might have helped to keep 11 on the park . Maybe Maeda’s red contributed to us looking like we were afraid to put in a tackle in the second half.

    Exactly what I’ve been saying.

    Burnley 78

Yes, we aren’t the outlier but we have resources far bigger than the three clubs you mention. In fact our turnover is very similar to Feyenoord’s, who are even money to qualify and got to the conference lg final eighteen months ago.

  15. We are not on a level playing field when it comes to the champions league …it really is that simple ..We will never be a European force again unless there is a drastic financial change in European football. We either get out of Scotland and join a European League with other marginalised European clubs ..or have a reality check and adjust our expectations …The champions league is not for us sadly 🍀

  16. onenightinlisbon on

Yet another morning after the horrendous night before.

Wonder what the score would have been had Daizen not been red carded?

Terrible night and as much as I loved big John Hartson as a player………..

Please, no one at Celtic come out with the “we will learn” comment …..

  17. Dermot Desmond brought back Lennon ,and look what ,players wanted away under him, also between him and Lawell ,Sevco stopped us from going for the magical 10, Lennon leaves ,Ange comes in things get better,Desmond tries to get Ange to stay at Celtic ,unfortunately Ange agrees to join Spurs ,Desmond meets Rodger’s a Celtic Coach who walked out of Celtic to go to Leicester City,Rodger’s gets the sack ,out of football for a long time ,again our club make a huge mistake, with the same approach for Lennon ,no other good young managers being interviewed for the head coach position in Celtic Football Club, personally I fear we are going to see another Helicopter Sunday this season,I hope I’m wrong ,and lastly Greg Taylor has always been the fall guy or scapegoat on here ,last night even before Madea was sent of O Riley was having a stinker,I’ll leave it at that .

  18. So the dust has settled then >:)

We are miles off at CL level, we need to get smart, even the huns know how to play the officials FFS, we just keep taking it on the chin, never a red last night, never in a month of Sundays, we would still have lost given the disparity in class, but we were giving them a game with 11 on the pitch.

Now my biggest gripe is our lack of a proper def mid, with respect to him, CalMac is Not that player, not saying that it will win us games at this level but for sure it will help in not getting spanked, before some smart ass asks who we should get, pay me what our scouts get and trust me I will find a few to choose from.

Spot on. Rodgers was a lazy appointment, but we are good at that as you correctly pointed out.

  20. The game was over at halftime,Harts terrible attempt to punch/palm away the cross and Maeda sending off assured that.Rodger’s not changing to a 1-5-4 formation baffles me ,we were not playing Scottish fodder .

Our reputation ,in Europe ,is going down the tubes .HH

Similar turnover is not a great comparison. To earn our turnover we have to spend quite a bit – so the actual money we have (profit margin) is not as big. Feyenoord get a lot of their turn over as “free money” e.g. from their TV deal – low to no overheads means they have more money.

They can also generally get more money when players leave etc as players from the Dutch league (and Portuguese etc) generally cost more to buy than players from SPFL clubs as they are seen as having more experience at a better level and therefore more valuable / less risk.

Good morning all from Benidorm. Glad I was pished last night. Heading for the same today. It’s a hard life.

  23. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning CQN.

For the first time in a VERY long time, I woke up the day after a Celtic defeat still feeling incredibly miserable.

This one cut all of us – including the players and coaches – to the bone.

The psychological reaction will be interesting.

Great episode of Frasier cheered me with Donald O’Connor, 40 years after Singin’ in the Rain, and in his seventies, giving a wonderful, spritely cameo as a crazy old rich guy.

    Paul67 – a request.

Give us all a big meaty article at noon to get into.

    All part ofth

  24. Good Morning, Grand Day To Be A Tim…

Tough night at the office, no doubts but with a bit of proper officiating, graft and guile we could get a result at home…

Oh wait, we did that already.

All we need to do now is…

…dream the impossible dream, To fight the unbeatable foe, To bear with unbearable sorrow, To run where the brave dare not go, To right the unrightable wrong…

So we need to pull our socks up if we want Europe after Christmas. The good thing is, we know we can out play Lazio and beat Feyenoord at home.

We were still in the game with a man down and a goal down on 45′, interesting BR doing an Ange in the second half.

And giving players who have no doubt been bending his ear for a chance, a chance, it would have been a humbling experience for them – this is the challenge they face and the level of football they must reach.

Felt for Meada, should have had a penalty, a player we know who can play at this level, turns out so does the Athletico Captain who unsurprisingly is a cheat.

Meada like most Japanese is a man of honour who would never stoop so low, to get beat by a man of no honour must hurt.

He looked crest fallen on his way down the tunnel.

So Jobo has given us a task and a half, thought that Hart had a strange game again but no doubts kept us in it in the first half.

CCV was a rock, he needed to be, so winging it’s way to SENCELPOTY@GMAIL.COM is…

    On Thursday.

    Hail Hail

  25. Given our financial strength we should have a better team than we currently have. To have £72m in the bank doesn’t make sense to me.

The champions league format changes next season with even greater riches to be earned and winning the league this season isn’t a foregone conclusion. We are gambling again when we should be hammering sevco into the ground.

  26. Agree , we need a bit of realism in respect of not expecting to compete with teams like AM.

But we managed to do not too badly in the home game, especially when we went 3/5 at the back. How we never started with that formation is a mystery.

We also need to address the positions in the team that needed improved on in the summer and weren’t.

GK, LB and replace the lightweights in midfield.

  27. MARKIEBHOY on 8TH NOVEMBER 2023 9:30 AM

Not really buying into this idea. We seen the worst team in CL history deploy a low block last season. For me, we have to be the best version of Celtic that we can be, in particular when it comes to recruitment. Is Hart the best keeper we can attract ? Is Taylor the best LB we can attract ? Is Scales the best CB we can attract ?

Low block or not, when you make the basic errors that we do in these games, year in, year out, you will get your backside handed to you.

4 games, 3 reds. We need to learn very quickly when, where and how to tackle in these games. Clearances continually being directed towards the centre area just outside the box – school children are coached to clear out to the wings. Our mistakes, basic mistakes are hard to comprehend in these games and I don’t think formation changes that.

The slopes of Celtic Park have frequently resonated to the sound of that popular Hoops hymn in praise of the eponymous Willie Maley. His long and illustrious reign at the helm of Celtic has ensured him an eternal reverence. But if it hadn’t been for the earlier football success of another Maley, it is doubtful if Willie Maley himself would ever have passed through Parkhead’s gates.

  31. Like everyone else , really disappointed about game last night.

I felt in the last 30 mins when the subs came on,no one knew what system we were meant to be playing, some of the players put in some effort but just didn’t seem to have a clue what they should be doing.

  32. Still feeling down after last night.

I just wanted to avoid a humping but that was what we got.

The only cure is getting back on it against Aberdeen- we have a league we have yet to win.

I would encourage people to still support Jobo’s POTY thing even though it might have to be the 3 least worst this week. I went with

Oh- One of the few to win a ball in a challenge – at least-until he was overcrowded

CCV- Could have been either of the CB’s but CCV scowled better than Liam

Hart- poor game in the round but he played a part in keeping it to single figures
