Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

I’v got to much respect for CFC the board and PL, to ask him on here or any other Celtic blog, and I know your serious too, ffs? I’v seen and heard the malcontents at the AGMs that’s enough for me thanks.

Tony, I suspect we have more in common when it comes to PL and the board than we have differences. However there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism if someone thinks there is an issue needing addressed. Obviously I don’t mean those who repeat ad nauseum the same views, but I think you would find that if PL, or any other member of Celtic requested questions on here, the questions would be searching but fair. The alternative is to accept everything the board tells us as gospel, and you only need to look across the city to see where that kind of forelock tugging gets you.

I’m all for healthy, constructive challenge and debate, it can only strengthen us.

I did add a wee etc – which is nice!

We are trying to keep this a little vague because we don’t want to give too much away. Lessons from the last time.

The Swiss newspaper gives it an international angle in UEFA’s hometown.

The Guardian shines a light on it down south. They will also increase their Scottish availability on the day the ad runs to meet demand. They were aware of how well it went the last time!

fair play and well done to all involved.

I do wish some would take note of how a small number of shareholders have been working WITH the club on these important issues.

The problem is when people pre-judge an issue its hard to save face.

I think we all agree Celtic need to say something too within the near future and hopefully the statements in the Guardian and the Swiss paper are a precursor….

I suppose if Celtics involvement is made clear in a newspaper ad then they’ll have to say something eh ;)

But, I don’t trouser a £million of Celtic supporter’s money for telling them lies.

I don’t come on and berate the Res : 12 guys for doing what they they think is best then, change tack half way down the road and try to claim that I’ve always backed them – Tony D did that.

    VESPACIDE on 13TH MAY 2016 12:12 PM

What happens when we win in regards to res 12, same club myth, LNS title stripping ? how will the landscape change ? The offshore report has shown the SFA is not fit or able to regulate football in this country without supervision, should Celtic not petition UEFA to find us a well run jurisdiction to operate our financially sound football club. Could that possibly be the long game for us. It’s either that or massive structural reform in the Scottish game, judging by the press and SFA cover up around these issues it would be best for everyone if they smoothed the way for Celtic to leave Scottish football then they can enjoy any kind of fictional sport they like without us scrutinising every blatant infringement of the rules.

    Point taken.

However, can we credibly go about winning that battle – which we rightly insist is not an Us v Thems battle – then upsticks and go elsewhere?

Surely if we engage other Scottish clubs in the fight to reform the SFA and SPFL, and they fight with us, it’s a bit of a boot in the hawmaws to walk away?

    That obviously assumes 2 things,

    1) other teams have such an appetite and more importantly

    2) that Celtic does.

I was under the impression that the other clubs and supporters are happy enough to play along with the SFA and the media status quo, I am not aware of any of them vociferously supporting our position either privately or in public, I see it as us alone against everyone else, tell me am I wrong ?

Any intelligence on early uptake of SB renewals?

Lawwell been unusually communicative… Even if he is using wrong media… Curious coincidence that it coincides with SB renewals?

I don’t think he’ll be CEO forever he’ll be lucky to make it through this season as he could die on his own conceit… He is a God of his own idolitory if ever I saw one.

    No-one has said that.

And of course I have used it. I can’t think of any times I have but I’m pretty sure I’ll have used it.

Not its not. But as you know that’s not the point I was making. I have no truck with the serial complainers who refuse to see the nuances of the overall situation and continually repeat their same old criticisms. But that does not mean there isn’t a place for constructive and challenging questioning of the Board and PL.. If he does come on here for Q&A I’m certain that he will be treated with respect.
