Atletico, Malaga, “breathtaking hypocrisy”

I was pleased Hearts won last night as all season I’ve been telling people we will win the league by double figures. Dropping the ball on Wednesday night put that in jeopardy but the gap is back to 12 points ahead of the visit of Motherwell on Sunday.

Ronny is likely to deploy more first choice players for his final game as Celtic manager against a Motherwell team who staged a remarkable recovery after a dreadful 2015, which would have seem them relegated if it weren’t for the huge gap between Premiership and Championship.

It looked like farewell from Emilio on Wednesday but you have to expect a few more will possibly make their final competitive appearances in the hoops this weekend.

I see a “Five-in-a-row but Peter Lawwell just cannot win” article in The Scotsman. Aye, fair enough, but the article ploughs into the Resolution 12 guys, and accuses other Celtic fans of “breathtaking hypocrisy”.

It appears to imply Financial Fair Play rules are not applied elsewhere in Europe (citing Atletico Madrid), so there should be no issues with the rules not applying to Rangers in 2011. I don’t follow Spanish club licencing too closely, but you will remember Malaga being banned by Uefa for having “overdue payables” to the Spanish tax authorities.

The rules ARE applied, clubs are banned from European competition for overdue payables.

I’ve been in touch with both the Res 12 guys and Celtic on this matter this morning (they continue to work together on a daily basis). It’s fair to say both robustly rejected the tone in the article.  I don’t know how this matter will end, but it will not be decided at Hampden, or in a newspaper office – cards marked one more time.

Zlatan on ending his stay at PSG, “I came like a king, I leave like a legend”. And then some.

  1. I think it was a good idea to try and garner the support of other teams in the Newspaper article.Someone posted a “Hearts blog”the other day, saying the same things as the Res 12 guys.Dundee U,Aberdeen,Hamilton, even if its only a handful, then its inclusive of Scottish football fans.I know we can contact them.Is it not worth a try?.Can we donate via Credit Card.

  2. Tony. I should add, that in my opinion, respecting someone does not necessarily mean you always have to agree with them. It’s how you express that disagreement and allow for other points of view that matter.

I have enormous respect for PL, but I’m concerned he took too long to deal with Roanny’s failings, and I was concerned at his choice of outlet for the first interview this week. Although I now accept that he appears to have talked to multiple outlets.

  3. If, PL had to come on here, millions of Celtic fans worldwide would have to call the fire services to come to they’re home’s to extinguish the flames on they’re computers :)

    Is that better Joe :))))

I have serious doubts about that,.

We can agree to differ on that as we won’t l if or when it happens. What I will say is, if anyone is rude or disrepectful ,then it will speak volumes about them and say nothing about PL. but, it is possible to be challenging and assertive without being either rude or dos respectful.

  5. Squire I was glad you commented on the last thread in regards to my question I was only putting it out there again to encourage debate on the matter, As far as engagement from other clubs supporters and boards I have yet to see any substantial involvement, although I live in hope.

See Turkeybhoy above. I think it’s really important that this is as inclusive as possible as that would deflect any attempt by SMSM to portray/minimise issue as Us v Thems.

Still a fair question to ask given that anyone who criticised the old board were labelled as “malcontents’ back then. Interesting to see TD using the same line as the old board. I’m guessing TD was as big a supporter of the old board as he is of the current one.

  12. I think that the the time for getting fans of other clubs involved has gone.

Aberdeen fans waved a banner at Celtic Park saying – “Celtic Fc – Your silence is defeaning!”

Mean while, Celtic fans scoffed mountains of jelly & ice cream.

CELTIC legends and club ambassadors Davie Hay and Tom Boyd will carry the Premiership trophy up the Celtic Way ahead of Ronny Deila and his players before Sunday’s season finale in Paradise against Motherwell (KO: 12.30pm).

Both men have a long and close association with the club and were announced as club ambassadors earlier this year, joining Celtic icon Billy McNeill in the prestigious role.

Davie Hay is one of a select few Celts to have won the title in Paradise as both a player and a manager. A product of the club’s youth system, he was one of the famed members of the ‘Quality Street Gang’ that also included the likes of Danny McGrain, Kenny Dalglish and George Connelly.

Davie made 293 appearances for the club and lifted five League Championships, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup. He also started in the 1970 European Cup final defeat to Feyenoord and won 27 caps for Scotland.

After taking charge of the club in 1983, he guided Celtic to Scottish Cup success in 1985, and 12 months later he was in the dugout as the Hoops dramatically sealed the title on the last day of the season at Love Street, one of the most magical moments in Celtic’s history.

Former Hoops captain Tom Boyd made 407 appearances for the club, playing an integral part in three league triumphs, as well as three League Cups and two Scottish Cup successes from 1992 to 2003.

In his 11 years as a Celt, Tom proved himself to be a versatile, dedicated and faithful servant and his love of the Hoops has continued through his regular contributions to Celtic TV and his current role as an ambassador for the club.

He joined the Bhoys aged 26 from Chelsea after starting his career at Motherwell but it was at Paradise where he made his name.

His standout moment as Celtic captain came when he helped the club to its first championship success in almost a decade as Wim Jansen’s side famously stopped the 10 in 1998 and he was also part of the Martin O’Neill team that won the treble in 2001.

Supporters are invited to welcome the arrival the team at 11.15am on the Celtic Way and cheer them and the Celtic legends as they carry the silverware into Paradise.

On a day where the club will celebrate five-in-a-row, the title party will get underway on the Celtic Way from 10.30am with free music and entertainment from face painters, jugglers, balloon artists, photo opportunities and plenty more to keep the fans of all ages happy.

Young bhoys and ghirls can also get involved and learn some top footballing tips and tricks from our Soccer Academy coaches who’ll be outside the stadium pre-match, teaching famous Celtic turns and much more as the build-up to kick-off continues.

The SPFL Trophy will be displayed on The Celtic Way pre-match too.

Tickets for Sunday’s Title Party are going fast, pick up yours today to make sure you’re there to celebrate with the Champions.

Priced from £26 for adults, from £17 for concessions and from £10 for Under 13s, tickets can be purchased ONLINE, by calling 0871 226 1888* or by visiting the Celtic Ticket Office.

I must be one of the few Celtic supporters who still think Peter Lawwell is doing a good job in difficult circumstances. In Scottish football which is not financialy rich like the EPL Peter gets decent financial deals for our club he is also a Celtic supporter and knows that the powers that be in Scottish football are anti Celtic and he steers us well without being in constant aggro with others. He does his best to run the club prudently which makes sense to me.So all in all I think he does a difficult job well and he will be a big loss when he leaves. H.H.

  24. Joe I agree in regards to Peter Lawwell’s stewardship it’s a job I couldn’t do half as well, I also think he has done a great job under very difficult circumstances. I still lament Ronnie leaving as well I think next season was going to be the transition between old and new.

I am one of those Celts supporters who went to every game I could including the regular bruisings at Ibrox who lived through their 9 in a row and could see that Murray was controlling the media and the SFA. There was not a day where there was not another story about how much money they had to spend. It became obvious after a while that this was never Murray’s money it was always someone else’s. It never looked liked it would end hence Murrays fiver/tenner jibe and how they all lapped that up in the stands and in the laptop loyal press offices.

Then years later the crash of 2008

In an ironic way we have to thank the greedy bankers for their demise although the collateral damage affected us all personally CFC remained untouched hail hail the bunnet for that.

Now the Offshore Game has produced a report that asks serious questions of the SFA and yet no one wants to touch it in the press

    Why is that

    Simple

The media up here have been waiting like rabid dogs for their return it means they can roll out the old ways for the money making old firm headlines it was always about the money, anything that gets in the way of old firm business as usual has to be ignored. Rangers MK2 must be allowed to grow unfettered by any past baggage like UEFA licence eligibility.

Celtics present dominance of the leagues must be stopped.

They do not want to see us get 10 in a row the thought of this ever happening brings a pain to them only an ulcer could equal. We are now half way there think about that halfway to that Nirvana a milestone that will never be matched,

CFC must be supported and encouraged to achieve this.

Remember how much the fans achieved under Fergus Mc Cann this can be done again. We have the emotional and financial muscle to do it as a group if we all pull together like we did during the Mc Cann years.

    Res 12

I think it is almost a duty of every Celt to help those who want to expose corruption at the SFA.

I read CQN regularly and have followed the posts of the resolution 12 guys with great interest they have doggedly stuck to the task even though encouragement has not been universal among the support. Now maybe the Guardian statement will set the ball rolling and jolt the MSM out of their self enforced silence and make Celts who are not aware of this issue rally to a just cause.

Without a level playing field the game is a farce.
