Attacking change looks more effective

163

Saturday’s win over Dundee Untied was as close to a perfect afternoon for the champions as we could hope for.  Remarkably, we picked up no injuries, despite some tasty challenges from United players.  Arne Engels in particular was targeted.  The absence of Paulo Bernardo leaves us light in the middle of the park, especially during this period of two games a week.

Adam Idah continued his scoring form, that’s five goals in six games since Kyogo left.  Prior to then, neither Adam not Kyogo were scoring with any regularity.  Kyogo took 13 games to score his last five goals for Celtic and Adam’s fallow patch was even longer.

This is a small sample size and we cannot rush to conclusions, but the slight change in Celtic’s attacking options looks to be more effective.  Could it be that defenders had figured out how to mark Kyogo?

Tomorrow’s opponents, Bayern Munich, earned a hard-fought point away to second placed Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday evening.  The result was celebrated like a win by Bayern players, who were fortunate not to concede on several occasions, including when Jeremie Frimpong hit the crossbar.

Munich are not quietly confidence of winning the Bundesliga and progressing into the next round of the Champions League.  They are eight points ahead in the league with 12 games remaining and they have won 17 and drawn four since their last home defeat in the Champions League.

That came at the hands of PSG in an empty stadium during the Covid season.  You need to go back six years to their last home defeat in front of fans in Europe.  So they are due another one, right?

  2. Chris Sutton is the only pundit in Scottish football who fights our corner, and gives us a voice, the others who do TV/radio know that they need to do to comply, and get paid.Darren O’Dea was on Radio Scotland a couple of years ago, saying he wanted Oldco stripped of titles, never been back on since.

    Statement

Celtic supporters need to be mindful Munich is in mourning.

Be respectful .No political antics please.. No flares either.

Lets be proud, no regrets both on and off the park.

    HH. COYBIG.

  4. Game tomorrow is as hard as it gets and we start a goal down, wecwill be odoong very well to come out the game very likely no more than that.

We have signed KT up on a pre contract because he is willing to come and because he is levels above anything we could normally attract to the club. Taylor recognises its time to move on, no shame in that tbh.

Sevco getting a helping hand from the men in black 2 weeks in a row, last week a pen when the ball was never in reach and this week a defender is caught wrong side and gives striker a two handed straight armed pushes. I need to go to spectators. Same centreback who avoided a pen against him a few weeks back, seems to like pushing folk.

  5. Watched Free Solo when it came out. Threw it on in background while messing around online. Got sucked in but so many parts make me feel queasy second time around.

if you haven’t watched it it’s an incredible flick.

  6. Majestic Hartson on

    Aipple,

Watched half of that and tried to get the family interested in watching it all with me but they weren’t interested so the second half remains unearthed.

The wee fella has a VR and i went on the other day to have a look and there’s saw some clips of it.

If you got queasy watching it on TV…

  7. MAJESTIC HARTSON

That would be a big no to the VR for me. Queasy just thinking you did it!

An incredible watch. You should go back in.

  8. the salary data, you cand find sources for most figures in press, on x, etc etc.

agents in particular like to leak them to up their own clients interests.

the total spending can be corrolated with the accounts and the wages to revenue percentage for fsr.

If KT is on £100k a week at Arsenal, and allegedly he turned down a transfer feee move to west ham, i do not think it is a big leap that he comes back and becomes the highest paid player by some distance,

i wonder a little what jota os on now.

people wanted us spening on the team, we break transfer fee records, but these guys must be coming with our highest ever salaries, and i include brendan in that.

i feel we make progress, and are stronger for it.

  9. this one interested me. WITS, thoughts ?

Premier League clubs are scouting Shamrock Rovers’ 16-year-old Irish striker Michael Noonan, who became the second-youngest goalscorer in Uefa club competition history when he scored against Molde in the Conference League on Thursday. (Times – subscription required)

  10. just seen a sports report from germany.

lest we forget, the final is in munichs own stadfium tis year,

there is huge expectations that they get there, and that pesky celtic will be mollucated.

  11. What the unemotional Bookies think:

    To Qualify:

    Bayern Munich

    1/1000

    Celtic

    18/1

    Any gambling men:

If BM are 1000/1 on, why are Celtic only 18/1 ?

    BURNLEY78

FWIW pound for pound he (Greg Taylor) has over 200 games and is a fantastic signing for Celtic, especially in the inverted role BR gets him to play so well. Never lets Celtic down and gives 100% as a model pro.

    Absolutely.

  13. I , genuinely, have always felt Greg Taylor is a decent player who always gives his all. Ever since it has looked as though he might be leaving, though, he has improved tremendously on here :-))

    Cheerio for now.

  14. What is the Starz on

    St Stivs

    Re Noonan

Yes..He looks a great prospect, strong, fast, great attitude, caused Molde a lot of problems. But he is only 16 and you have to be careful with young lads.Victor Ozhianvuna, also 16..couple of months younger than Noonan. He came on in the second half against Bohemians yesterday (game at Aviva, record crowd of 33 thousand for LOI game)..He looked really good also

  15. What is the Starz on

Manchester City are supposed to be interested in Noonan, some people saying it’s a done deal. But with Brexit he can’t work outside the EU until he is 18,so he plays for Rovers for next 2 years..Obviously it may not be “a done deal” but surely Celtic should be keeping an eye on any young player coming through Rovers academy. Desmond is a 25% shareholder in Rovers

  16. Frizsong / Hot smoked / Bournesouprecipe

We are all agreed on wee Greg then.

It’s just the other 50,000 or so who don’t seem to get it.

  17. 3 huge games for us to keep an eye on this weekend.

    Olympiakos v PAOK

    Copenhagen v Mitdyland

    Dinamo Zagreb v Rejika

These will have a hi impact on who will qualify for CL playoffs and who won’t. Therefore whether we will be seeded for the final play off.

  18. Maestro- Chakoo Bombay, St Vincent St,is first class for a 2-3 course lunch, great value for money

  19. lets all do the huddle on

Chakoo Bombay, St Vincent St,is first class for a 2-3 course lunch, great value for money

    absolute top gaff.

    scran amazing.

  20. I am firmly in the GT camp.Think it would be a shame to lose him.Terrific competitor, problem is,he makes the very odd mistake, and sometimes his opponent, actually beats him.You would never see ,for example, close to home,AJ doing that.

Well, you would’nt.Would you ?.Perish the thought.

Speaking of Indian dishes and left backs we mustn’t forget Anton Rogan Josh

  22. Anton Rogan Josh.

    FFS, lol.

Dish created here to make an Indian style dish more palatable to the masses.

  23. Maeda was a striker for years in Japan before joining us.A very prolific one.Still is for Japan.Kyogo was the wide player, when Ange bought them.Amazes me that Brendan, does not seem to know this.Making recent comments,as if Maeda would do as a striker in an emergency, but not really that keen on the idea.

I suppose, when you are trying to get our purse holders to part with a very large sum of money, for a striker, ignoring Maedas credentials,is a way of doing it.Sadly for BR,failed, unlike Maeda, who is happily banging in the goals with Idah ably supporting.

We will see where Maeda starts tomorrow.

  24. On the GT subject. Can you imagine the rage, anguish, and howls of derision, still being heard,if it had been Greg who knocked that passback into the net,in the manner CCV did against Brugge.

    😮😮😮😮😮

  25. Taylor refused to sign every offer Celtic made. He stated he would not accept a transfer and would see his contract out and leave on a Bosman. This deny;s the club a transfer fee. This plan of his was in place before the Tierney deal was in place.

We signed Taylor from Kilmarnock and paid a transfer fee and also paid him a healthy wage. He was definitly a hard worker and has good service during his time with us.

What must be noted is that coaches from other teams targeted Taylor as our weak point and pressed home their attacks through his position. Bayern 2nd goal was an example. It wasn’t the only examples.

    Tierney is an upgrade

  26. Taylor is no great loss, he done a decent job most of the time, a very good job occasionally and an awful job to often. Lots of teams change their shape to accomodate truly gifted players, we have do it to accommodate a not very good leftback.

Celtic supporters desire to highlight the murdering of 10 of thousands of innocent men, women and children in Palestine reflects the humanity we should all embrace as humans. Celtic supporters challenging Political ideology used to kill and remove an entire people seems like a just cause to me. Why would anyone be offended by supporters wanting to pressure footballs governing bodies to address the hypocrisy.

The poor folk in Germany ho recently lost loved ones in a truely terrible way will know better than most the heartbroken feeling of loss and despair and the power solidarity and love can bring.

There is always a reason to do nothing but many more to do something.

  27. Theres a Red Arrows irony flypast going on over on FF.They are saying Dundee U took some government handout,a couple of years ago, which could have gone to Schools and Hospitals.

Belief beggared, but you have to admire the depth of their skin.

    😮😮😮😮😮

  28. Turkeybhoy every player gets criticised, ccv got it tight for the og. Then we moved on, but if he fucks up again he will get critisised again. No more or less than taylor, problem is Taylor is a frequent flyer in the fuck ups file and folk remember.

He has been an OK signing but spare me the poor wee Taylor routine, he is well paid to do a job at celtic and he has done it to the best of his abilities always. Taylor does not wanna stay and fight for his place vs KT cause he know who wins that battle everyday of the week as does everyone else. we don’t wanna pay him stupid money to stay cause he ain’t worth it, it is that simple.
