It came at the end of the game when the result was already settled, but Kyogo’s goal against Hibs on Saturday is the stuff of legends. The sheer audacity to step over a pass and take it with your outside leg, feign a shot to put the keeper on his bum, then chip into the net tells you lots about the player’s place in the world.
We are watching a generational talent, worthy of comparison to the greats from the early part of this century. He transformed the club when he arrived in 2021 and continues to thrive as a Celtic player.
This could be a record beating year for Celtic’s defensive stats. Only four league goals conceded in 15 games is remarkable and testament to our defensive structure. If, however, there were Dinamo Zagreb scouts in the stand on Saturday, they will file a very different report.
The simple ball over the top repeatedly broke Celtic’s structure. When defending inside their box, the Celtic collective were repeatedly guilty of ball watching. The central defensive pairing of Liam Scales and Auston Trusty offered up more good chances against Hibs than away to Atalanta in the Champions League. It is a conundrum Brendan Rodgers will reflect on.
Fortunately, Kasper Schmeichel inspires the kind of confidence at one end of the field that Kyogo does at the other. The Denmark goalie will not regard his Man of the Match award as a particular highlight, but it was merited nonetheless.
Since conceding twice to Aberdeen in October, Kasper has only picked the ball out of the net three times in 11 games: a set-piece against Leipzig, a stunner at Hearts and an own-goal against Brugge. Extending this form for another two games will go a long way to achieving the season’s objectives.

Morning all.
BIG JIMMY
I’ll get you to Tony’s funeral, no problem.
……………….
MAGIC Mate.
i will give you Petrol money if you can pick me up from the Shipbank on that day….and dropped me back off at the Pub after the Funeral ?
I dont think I will be going to the “Wake” that Tonys family MAY arrange…UNLESS some of the Bhoys from here decide to attend the Family Wake ?
It may be best, to allow the Family to hold any Wake….WITHOUT Guys like me attending…who knows ?
i will send you a Text in the next few days once we KNOW the Exact day of Tonys Funeral.
Cheers Mate and Thank you for being a good Mate.
HH.
Just skim read back after a week off disconnected from the world bar family and the Celtic game at the weekend.
RIP SFTB – a true gent whose posts were always must read for me.
QB
Paul 67,
Our defensive stats are indeed impressive.
But how much of that is to do with inept strikers in Scotland?
Hibs had ridiculous misses on Saturday that camouflaged the fact ( bar the GK ) that our defence was caught out time and time again.
Even Brendan acknowledged that our defence on Saturday was not to the standards we have set.
I guess that Ange would wholeheartedly concur.
HH, the journey continues.
Can only remember the dink over the top happening in the first.
I seem to be in the minority that thought it was comfortable .
Don’t buy into the narrative that hibs could have scored three or four, if they had put away one of their chances I doubt they would have got another.
Kyogo looks particularly sharp at the moment, it cant be a coincidence that its happening at the same time as Adam Idah is looking fitter and sharper as well. Same with Greg Taylor and Valle and the midfield.
Real competition for places when we’re in a run of games that everyone wants to play in.
Happy days ahead of a week that could go a long way to defining this team.
Thank goodness the goals against did not reflect the trance-like state that we seemed to be in when allowing Hibs to fashion 3/4 good chances.
Must agree with this from GREENPINATA @ 12:25 – “But how much of that is to do with inept strikers in Scotland?”. I also agree with BORGO67 @ 12:26 – “Don’t buy into the narrative that hibs could have scored three or four, if they had put away one of their chances I doubt they would have got another.”
We could have had five, or, six ourselves – perhaps Brendan had a cunning plan to lull the watching Zagreb spies into a sense of false security. A performance incorporating all that was good against Slovan, Atalanta & Leipzig could see another three points and set up the Bhoys v Young Boys showdown nicely.
I would be content with a draw tomorrow which would still leave the qualification door ajar. HH
i remember saying at half time that i thought we were defending too high and that there were a few occasions when hibs tried to take advantage of this with the ball over the top that had our defence scurrying back.
i cant remember how many of them lead to real chances but i do remember thinking i wish we werent so high

Celtic are warning travelling fans in Zagreb to be vigilant, with supporters already ‘targeted’ in the Croatian capital.
Thousands of Hoops supporters will head to the Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb on December 10, however the club has warned supporters to be careful – saying some of those already in the city having been targeted by rival fans. The Celtic faithful were previously warned to expect tough searches before entering the Croatian side’s stadium, despite UEFA launching an official probe into Dinamo’s treatment of Borussia Dortmund supporters last month, after fans claimed they were strip-searched.

A statement from the Parkhead club said: “Regrettably, we are aware of a number of incidents where Celtic supporters have been targeted in Zagreb. We are currently looking to liaise with these fans who have been affected and we will offer all the support and assistance we can. Clearly, we would ask all our supporters travelling to be vigilant.
epic cut and paste.
Kyoog’s goal was beautiful and , as I said to my mate at the game at the time, it was genuinely IMHO , Larssonesque.
Hard to pick a favourite of his many great finishes but for me this one is probably it, given the context.

(About 1:14 in – the view from behind the goal at 1:30 the best – the technique is stunning)
oh and a buy the way, dont forget , we are the early tv game tomorrow 17:45 CP kick off time,
if we win, we go 6th in the table,
which would bew nice.
Zagreb will be licking their lips having seen Hibs cut us open several times at the weekend.
The midfield press wasn’t there and frankly, our left back wasn’t there either. Taylor has a job at Celtic which has its place, the inverted role suits him but for large parts of our game, he isn’t where he should be when the ball is lost.
Valle for Tuesday night, Brendan.
Sorry guys, could do with an edit option on here….
strange the club makes a statement & cites the treatment of dortmund fans at the same venue. i didnt see any such statement when celtic fans were brutally assaulted by police, inside the dortmund stadium, for carrying a flag.

Agree totally. Brendan didn’t call out the defence as such, but the defending of the team as a whole in regards to the press. For the first Hibs chance Taylor I think it was got turned by the Hibs player deep in their half who two touches later the Hibs player played a low, long ball forward. I thought at the time it passed close to CalMac who watched it sail by and our CBs were all over the place – Scales covering for GT iirc
Not great defending either way.

Brendan did call out the defense in an interview i heard.
he specifically said it “lost the ball to easy and were then out of position, but then praised taylor as having a great game.
No bad thing for the manager to give a wee wake up call, given our next 2 games

“Brendan did call out the defense in an interview i heard.”
I heard different in the two post match BR interviews that I listened to on the bus home where he was more tactful perhaps in not singling out individuals/areas of the team. We do defend and press as a team after all.
I did think other than that one failure in the press and in one other incident where Scales was also too wide and both he and GT got caught out with a simple 1-2 that GT had a good game overall.
Then again I also thought Idah’s “goal” was his and not an OG so perhaps my observations/recollections are not to be trusted :)
QB
Brendans comments after the game about our poor pressing put my mind a bit more at ease. A high line and a poor press is a recipe for disaster, its a simple message that all our players need a reminder of from time to time, especially if we have better opposition coming up
The Celtic left back, what a player he was?
Wee Greg Taylor deep in protracted contract negotiations with those that know and constantly deeper in the wrath of the supporters that know better. Alex Bernabei next up another Barcelona Alex, protégés from around the globe, all just the latest Lee Naylor, Danny Fox or Michael Gray.
Alexandro Bernabei corrently ripping it up in Brazil no less, barely staked a claim for a Celtic shirt, never mind proved better than anybody. Yet we are hoping to at least double the Argentinian’s £4M transfer value, with Internationale said to be keen, to make the Celtic loanee’s move permanent?
In Brendan we trust.
Maybe Bernabei was too young to adapt to life in a different continent, never mind weather, language and culture. Let’s hope we do double our money and get the true value of the player.
Anyone not KT is going to suffer comparisons just as anyone not KD or HL would have done.
The game has moved on. GT has adapted and evolved with it and is a massive offensive player for us.
His role for us domestically is not always best for the international game. This was evidenced a few times this season already.
He also suffers from being 2 inches too small.
On the latter point though I doubt he would still be at CP if he were taller.
PCS 3:58 PM
I agree and this
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-66501050
couldn’t have helped ( particularly the ban).
While he was the author of his own downfall in respect of the ban imagine all the points you made and not being able to drive anywhere and relying on others/ public transport.
Don’t know if this is relative to current events or not…But…it might be.
https://x.com/KateShemirani/status/1866061111386059153
GT told by Brendan to keep pushing into opponents half. When he does, its Scales who should have dropped into the LB area, which he did.Problem was,he went up to the halfway line to try and tackle, ball popped over his head.An error of judgement a couple of times, you can be sure, won’t happen again.
Better on Saturday than Tuesday.
Ordinary Joe,
No,its not.Just the usual load of pish.
Keep healthy.
Quite a lot of chatter around Chuck brrb oot at the moment.Seems he is definitely leaving Milan in January. Some stories saying the manager wants him permanent, others,we are now favs to sign him.Came on the last 20 odd mins against Atalanta the other night, and looked a live wire. All I have seen of him.
Oh,and it now seems unlikely,he will now sign for Rangers. Well, that’s a shock.
dream job for somebody, if i was fit i would apply.
