Avoiding bad Fortune

789

I read our treble-winning captain, Tom Boyd, in the Herald advising Celtic to retain players who want away or decline to sign new contracts, until after their Champions League qualification ties, an idea we discussed some time ago.  Tellingly he added, “They will see when they go down south it’s not always as bright down there as they think it will be”, perhaps a reference to his time in the Chelsea defence.

There is unlikely to be much difference in value achieved between selling before or after the qualifiers, so as long as the players stay on-side with Neil Lennon and the club, there will be no reason to sell before then.

Recruiting is a different matter.  Celtic will want players in as soon as possible but with all in-demand talent, selling clubs have little reason to cash-in before the business end of August.  For me, there are some on the list we are currently linked with (I’m trying to avoid stepping onto the speculation train as long as possible) who I’ll be happy to see sign elsewhere.  Half the battle in transfer windows is to avoid the bad Fortune of splurging money on players who don’t work out.

  6. DBBIA,

Not all of Greenock’s youth chose the fairer sax.

Mr McGeogh obviously chose the guitar to the obvious benefit of Magazine/Banshees/PIL fans.

I do believe that he played in the same unknown band as the hitherto sax player. He may even know the story and might well have told wee Kate Bush when they were backstage laughing at Simon Bates hosting Top of the Pops

John the Postman was a cult hero in the Manchester punk scene – he appeared on the same bill as Buzzcocks, The Fall and John Cooper Clarke many a time.

I don’t think so. Ian (John) McGeogh left Greenock when he was about 16/17 if memory serves so that band would have been even more unknown.

Come to think of it, I think they may have been called 666 and Ian might only have “guested” with them a few times before moving on to bigger and better things while 666 went on to stand in for Chou Pahrot when they couldn’t make it down to the Regency (I think it was the Regency).

The fact Uefa ruled that Derry City as a Club were liquidated should put this same Club nonsense to bed.

There was no mention of ‘the company running the club’ or that in reference to LNS ruling, the club is separate from any legal entity. The Club was liquidated and reformed therefore having to wait 3 years before being eligible to play in Europe due to being a reformed/new Club.

The only confusing point in this story is the adding of coefficient points to the Old Club. That seems strange to me. However, at the same time this was only done after the 3 years had passed. Does Uefa therefore have a policy of adding coefficient points to any old liquidated club if a that liquidated club has effectively been reformed by another entity/vehicle?

  23. The honest mistake

I saw that but Ive had numerous exchanges on Twitter with AD and Id be amazed if he were Bryson.

He is a dedicated Rangers supporter doing what they do which is to interpret the law to suit their purpose.

This behaviour ( and it applies across their full support spectrum in the msm and SFA) to always be “right” and justify wrongdoing to make wrong right by scrupulous application of rules has bugged me for a while as it reminds me of similar behaviour in history.

Then today I got it Matheww 23 : where Jesus accuses the Pharisees of just that and 23-24 in particular applies. They taught the law but did not practice the most important parts of the law – justice mercy faiyhfullness to God. They obeyed the minutiae of the law but not the real meat of the law.

And there you have it. A club of Pharisees. No wonder good guys despair but scripture is being fulfilled in that this section of it is described as the Woes of The Pharisees.

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woes_of_the_Pharisees

It makes for enlightening reading if you put everything that has happened to them and their cohorts in the biblical context of Pharisees.

  29. Bournesouprecipe

See my response above to honest mistakes. They are a buch of Pharisees and are doomed to the fate that kind if unethical thinking produces. Hence my saying this river flows all by itself.

On UEFA they have principles coded into UEFA FFP to uphold integrity and fair play that the SFA have walked all over with UEFAs silence enabling them.

UEFA have said its up to national associations to apply UEFA rules but the hypocrisy of associations not applying those principles undermines UEFA authority even if they are blind to this effect.

As I said questions re application of UEFA Art 13 in the possible event of Rangers qualifying for Europe via Scottish Cup before 2016 have been put to UEFA. Not only will The Rangers be granted a UEFA licence but if not why not ie what principle behind Art 12 is being breached?

Its UEFAs turn to be a good guy or another Pharisee.
