Back to back trebles! Goodness

158

This time next week it will be easy to convince me one of our biggest games of the remainder of the season will take place at Ibrox in a couple of days.  Though a reversal at Ibrox would hurt, based on so many good times we have had there recently, tomorrow’s Scottish Cup game against Morton is considerably more important.

The league title is coming home for the seventh successive season and we are three cup games away from being the first Scottish club to win back to back trebles.  In these days of plenty, I know you get used to winning things, but, goodness, back to back trebles!

The measure of this objective cannot be overstated.  Morton is our biggest in March.  Let’s have no mistakes, this time.

Whether we agree or disagree it is certainly topical.

  4. Hopefully game goes ahead tomorrow, will depend on matchday commander from Scotlands finest I suspect. Wonder what Lodge he is in?

Anyhoo, next week will take care of itself, team have been looking better in recent big games, albeit the ‘lesser’ games have been poor. Thankfully the Derby game, whether we like it or not, rermains the biggest and I expect the team to respond accordingly. However, i’m not silly and know there are many factors that could lead to a reverse, but come end of season Title 7 will be in its rightful place at Paradise.

The brightside of any reverse next week is that it will strengthen the calls for Murty to be given an extension and that in itself will ensure Title 8.

I doubt there was any desire by us to play Dundee next midweek with a Cup Tie still to be decided.

Against the corinthian spirit of Celtic, to look to hastily arrange a SPL game on the basis you’ve already played and beaten ( or lost to Morton ), when rules dictate any possible replay was due next mid week.

  6. I feel that he fact that tomorrow`s game is scheduled to be televised increases the chances of it going ahead.

T3- i’m sure the rule is you play a game on the first available midweek…

    ****

I seem to recall a ruling that stated that if a game was postponed in the month of January, not sure if it extended to February, then that game did not have to be played on the first available date,

    BSR.

They had aleady arranged the date for a postponed Morton game, or a replay, if required.

If postponed, 14th March was the date. If a replay, the same date applied.

Cup replays are never play in the following midweek now and haven’t been for a while.

I think the reason given was for any tensions arising from the first game would have calmed down.

Interesting reading the diaries. Of course there is a place for them on CQN. This blog is open to all and respectful of all shades and alternative opinion.

I would never claim to be an expert on Irish affairs but since the times of the hunger strikes ; Ireland has changed dramatically. The Catholic church has lost the active support of much of the youth. It’s influence has diminished due the various scandles and subsequent attempts of cover ups. Traditional conservative Catholics oppose abortion and gay marriage.

There lies the conundrum . What party in the North of Ireland strongly opposes both. ?

These voters may not contemplate voting along these lines yet. But there is no doubt that the political and religious landscape has changed from the time of the hunger strikes.

With Brexit thrown into the equation, it’s interesting and perhaps worrying times ahead.

  9. Paul 67 cant believe that you so matter of factly say the 7th title is already in the bag….On paper we are by far a better team than them, we have nt turned up so far this season ….. .Killie at rugby Park , one shot on goal in the 89th minute kinda sums up our season . We could quite easily get beaten at Ibrokes , they will be up for it BIG TIME and with honest mistakes and all that and our poor form its not inconceivable that they will triumph on the day. (Hope I am wrong btw) but hey we should nt complain too much because our own board dont seem to bother that we have been systematically cheated for the best part of 10 years. We could realistically have a 3 point gap between us and them in the run in , until we play our game in hand , so count me out for celebrating a 7th title just now. Said before in a post , talk of 10 in a row is madness , lets focus on Number 7 and our Most important game since qualifying for the champs league is looming at Ibrokes a week on Sunday

  11. I have two tickets for the game tomorrow. Although it’s likely we’ll miss the game, I really hope it’s on. There’s never an ideal situation for the supporters when it’s like this, but it’s more important that the game is played.

Did we make an official request that the game was played next week? If so, we should be provided with an explanation why it isn’t.

Very perceptive view of modern Ireland.

Strange moral bedfellows , north and south.

The Catholic Church has lost all moral authority in the country and, as a result, there is no non political voice for those who need a voice.

I fear for the country as it appears rudderless, in a frantic race towards secularism.

Baby and bathwater analogy springs to mind.
