Back to back trebles! Goodness

158

This time next week it will be easy to convince me one of our biggest games of the remainder of the season will take place at Ibrox in a couple of days.  Though a reversal at Ibrox would hurt, based on so many good times we have had there recently, tomorrow’s Scottish Cup game against Morton is considerably more important.

The league title is coming home for the seventh successive season and we are three cup games away from being the first Scottish club to win back to back trebles.  In these days of plenty, I know you get used to winning things, but, goodness, back to back trebles!

The measure of this objective cannot be overstated.  Morton is our biggest in March.  Let’s have no mistakes, this time.

I see Morton are asking for the game to be postponed early due to the travelling fans ( not just their own, ours also).

I haven`t seen that so I am guessing that they are saying IF the game is to be postponed, can it be done early.Rather than requesting that the game IS postponed. Does that make sense?

I grew up in the section of Scottish society that had been gaslit by the myth of ‘the bbc, the most trusted news organisation anywhere in the world…..’ WW2 was our finest hour….colonisation had brought civilisation to the world and along with it, British Christianity….oh and then we decolonised in an unprecedentedly peaceful fashion….aye right

  6. If he does start with Compper tomorrow, I wonder if he’ll leave Lustig out?

Would still rather have Lustig available next week, despite inconsistent form recently.

  7. Whilst I think we will probably win the league, to say we’re definitely on track for 7 in a row is incredibly presumptuous.

Our form is up and down, and we have lots of injuries. The chasing pack have all improved (apart from Aberdeen), and could all beat us on the day.

Far, far, too early to be so certain of 7.

“Whilst I think we will probably win the league, to say we’re definitely on track for 7 in a row is incredibly presumptuous.”

I cannot see too many layers of presumptiousness between “probably win” and “definitely on track”. Neither are saying we will definitely win (though we are still 66/1 on to do so) and neither are saying we are likely to lose.

I agree about the 10iar chant but I find the attempts to distinguish between these two positions as just “so much froth”

During our recent 6 titles, I have had regular exhanges, almost every season, with Mickbhoy1888 about the prospects of us losing a title race. Every time, I encourage him to back his pessimism with his own money and he responds that I should bet my house on Celtic winning.

With regards to gambling, I regard it as foolish to gamble a large amount on a long odds on event as the rewards do not justify the risk. But, I cannot see how a pessimist would not risk a samll amount with the prospect of great return sum if they genuinely believed in their pessimism re a Celtic title.

However, since you and many others who are calling Paul67 out, believe Celtic are likely to win title no.7 then I think the squabble is about the less important aspects of semantics.

I believe Sevco could win at Ibrox and that we would remain as favourites for title no.7. I would prefer it did not happen but I have accustomed myself to the prospect that the will win a match against us again sometime soon. My worry is that so many of our fans are so invested in superiority over them that they will not easily cope with this event, even though they have had to cope wih losses to Hearts and Killie as we have blooded a very young team this year.

Warren Hawke is the latest recruit to the Stop Celtic Movement.

What spurious reasons for calling for a postponement.

He would rather lose £80k for his club, tha play a game on a playable surface, with safe access to the ground.

If any supporter felt it unsafe to travel from their home, then he/she should just stay home.

  10. THOMTHETHIM FOR OSCAR OK

Sorry, I live in gourock. Will struggle for transport tomorrow. My car won’t move for days unless,a major thaw happens – unlikely. Have bought my ticket but won’t made game so very disappointed. On this occasion Warren Hawkes is bang on and not speaking with an ulterior motive. He’s genuinely concerned about fan safety.

Wish I could say the same about our club.

Suggest you re-read your last sentence and think again. Comes across as a very selfish way of looking at life.

Sorry mate I was called away.

Whilst your suggestion about if makes sense, the article never mentioned if, just called for the game to be postponed for safety reasons.

  12. SFTB, there’s a pretty clear difference between “will probably win” and assuming the title is won, which is what Paul67 has done on several occasions recently (much to my surprise).

We will probably win because we have a lead, and are the best team, on balance. But I acknowledge that these factors might not be enough. Loss of form (we haven’t played well consistently this season), more injury problems, and honest mistakes could all intervene.

Asserting the title is won leaves no room for doubt. It’s a position which is very extreme, all things considered.

  13. 50 shades

I have now read Greenpinata`s 3:01 link and it really does read as you say. Maybe cynical of me but I smell an ulterior motive.

    Sorry you feel that way.

The onus is on Celtic to have the pitch and ground environs safe.

It is unfortunate that many fans may consider it unsafe to travel, but that is due to matters outwith the club’s control.

Taking your view to a logical conclusion, if ferry sailings or flights get cancelled, due to bad weather, should fans from, e.g. Ireland, request that the match be postponed?

I don’t consider my view of life to be compromised by my opinion on this matter.

I think we’re looking a good bet to seal the deal for the league flag before the split. I’m relieved Moussa and Tom Rogic are at last loosening up and ready for the run-in. Next up Paddy, Stu and Leigh.

I like Morton folk, they make me laugh. At the kiosk for the recent 1-4 gubbing from Aberdeen, “what’s available today?”, “chips or nothing pal”, “we’ll have some chips, please”.

The girl in the Carnock, serving our cans of guinness, told us supporters bringing in a match programme on Morton gamedays get a complementary pint. Any Gallowgate establishments match that?

Some good recommendations there skin. Another one is “Between Civil Rights and Civil War” by Liam O Dowd.

The most recent phase of the struggle is the quest for truth and justice for those who have lost loved ones in the conflict (still searching for this Mainland place BRTH -)). Was at a march on Sunday to Belfast City Centre for precisely that. Representatives from Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy Massacre, Mc Gurks Bar, Graham’s Bookies, Loughinisland families all there. There are also a lot of families whose relatives were murdered by those who were colluding with the RUC Special Branch at the time but they let the murders proceed rather than compromise their Loyalist paramilitary friends, Pat Finucane the Solicitor is a case in point. There were 4 UDA men in the car that went to murder Pat and 3 of them were Special Branch informers. Furthermore the person that supplied them with the weapons William Stobie was also a Special Branch informer.

Whenever people get close to the facts of some of these murders the British Govt slap a public immunity certificate on the evidence being made available. Evidence on some of the above cases has been contaminated by “asbestos” and separate fires in Carrickfergus barracks and Palace barracks Hollywood (who’d a thunk it). Anyway the reason for the above is not to bore the blog but to recommend another book on an aspect of the above, the Glennanne Gang. Made up of RUC/RUC reservists/ UDR and British army reservists. Responsible for in excess of 130 murders at the last count. The book is by Anne Cadwallader “Lethal allies”. As part of the deal last week £150 million was to be set aside for legacy inquests into “troubles” killings. To their shame the DUP vetoed this which is a pity because although the impact is much greater on the Nationalist community the Special Branch ran Republican informers as well and truth and justice has no religion or Nationality.

  19. It is extremely hubristic to assume that with ten games left to play, the league is done and dusted.

As for tomorrow’s game being on or off, doubtless TV will have an influence on tis.

I find it odd, that unless the club has contradicted it, the reason given by BBC Scotland for the game against Dundee being called off, was a frozen pitch.

If this was the case it means that undersoil heating was inadequate, or simply not switched on.

Gioven recent weather,It is hard to see how a pitch that was unplayable on Wednsday, will be safely playabe tomorrow.

Living in Norway I don’t have first-hand knowledge about the current weather conditions in the Glasgow/Inverclyde area.

But I think it’s a bit OTT to criticise Celtic for lacking ‘genuine concern about fan safety’.

Sounds like the club has done everything it can to make safe CP and the surrounding areas. What else are they supposed to do – send Peter Lawwell out to Greenock with a shovel?

Your use of ` Official. ` reminded me of many years ago coming out of Celtic Park and people telling us the Huns had lost. The question was always, ” Is that Official?”. The response to that carried a lot of weight and I genuinely believe that people were honest in confirming or denying whether or not it was, indeed, `Official.`
