Back to back trebles! Goodness

158

This time next week it will be easy to convince me one of our biggest games of the remainder of the season will take place at Ibrox in a couple of days.  Though a reversal at Ibrox would hurt, based on so many good times we have had there recently, tomorrow’s Scottish Cup game against Morton is considerably more important.

The league title is coming home for the seventh successive season and we are three cup games away from being the first Scottish club to win back to back trebles.  In these days of plenty, I know you get used to winning things, but, goodness, back to back trebles!

The measure of this objective cannot be overstated.  Morton is our biggest in March.  Let’s have no mistakes, this time.

  1. Then against Sevco:

    De vries

    Hendry Ajer Compper Tierney

    Forrest Brown Ntcham Kouassi

    Rogic

    Dembele.

That is making the assumption that Compper plays well tomorrow ( If the game is on :-)) )

    Anyway, cheerio for now.

Despite the difficulties getting to CP from Embra, I’m glad the game is on tomorrow as 2 weeks without a game before Ibrox would not be ideal. Plus players such as Rogic, Roberts, Compper et al may need game time to give us options for the Glasgow Derby.

I’ve already cleared the driveway in case I have to drive through (M8 looks clear) unless the train to Belgrove is running. Forecast for travel improving for many so fingers crossed.

Either way looks like it’s an early start for me in the morning and I hope as many of my fellow Tims can make the effort too. HH

I too am uncomfortable with statements like “The league title is coming home for the seventh successive season”.

It probably will. But it sounds entitled (excuse the pun) and arrogant when there are still 10 games to go.

I am much happier with the old-school “we’ll celebrate when it’s mathematically impossible for anybody to catch us” attitude.

Here’s an intro from CQN, 22 October 1971:

“The League Cup is coming home tomorrow after we dispose of Partick Thistle in the final at Hampden Park.”

Hubris is a hun characteristic. It destroyed them. Let’s try to keep a bit of humility.

  4. Hot Smoked

They could have said game’s off in which case it would be…………off

Snow not forecast, main roads clear, buses running throughout Glasgow and…

I’ve cleared my wind drift blocking in my omnibus.

I appreciate it’s not that simple from the Dishie…

I spoke to the 2 phrases you listed. I did not venture into any other pronouncements which had not been listed by yourself.

I’ve said before the 2 camps are really saying:-

    1) We are going to win the league

    2) I think we will win the league but it won’t be as easy as the 1’s are saying.

Unless you are in category 3) We are not going to win the league, then all I see are 2 sides furiously agreeing with each other.

The acid test- Do you think that, if Sevco win next week, we will lose the league? I don’t and I have not heard anyone on here say any different.

  6. mickbhoy1888 on

This self same confidence abounded a way back in May 2005 when we were convinced that we were only 90 minutes away from another title and all we had to do was turn up. Let’s not forget that there will be other teams in this league, wether we win lose or draw at ibrox next week, who will have a say just like back in 2005 where a Scott Brown led Hibs side we’re quite happy to settle for a 1-0 defeat against the Huns in their pursuance of European football the following season.

  7. A wee bit of snow and folks are kacking themselfs, hilarious.

Yous wouldn’t want to be living in a few of the Nordic countries, you would never leave your houses ffs.

“This self same confidence abounded a way back in May 2005 when we were convinced that we were only 90 minutes away from another title and all we had to do was turn up.”

And the self same pessimism was evidenced by yourself in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2012, with Aberdeen in 2016 and with the scary huns in 2017. How’d that work out for you?

  9. THE EXILED TIM, how are you pal, could you give me that website address again, and i will try and get you some support from the contacts we know, btw does mit know about your passion in life.hh.

Doing good thanks, having bother with the rain, but not complaining, just have to get on with it, watched one of the neighbours outbuildings sliding down the hill this morning, thankfully it hit another shed which it destroyed, before it hit a house, one of these days they will put proper foundations in when building things other than houses, tis part of life here :-)

It’s on FB…We are not asking for help btw, it’s gratefully accepted mind you, I’m sure Mick does btw.

With regards to gambling, I regard it as foolish to gamble a large amount on a long odds on event as the rewards do not justify the risk. But, I cannot see how a pessimist would not risk a samll amount with the prospect of great return sum if they genuinely believed in their pessimism re a Celtic title.

    SFTB

I wonder if i could have you professional opinion Sir,is it Pessimism,Optimism, Voyeurismor Sado Masochism or whatever other ism that sees me renew my season ticket every season.

As for your earlier assertion that it is foolish to gamble on long{i think you meant short) odds a large amount on an event as the rewards do not justify the risk. We’ll surely that must mean that there is a risk, however small, that your in danger of losing your money and that must mean that there is a doubt as to wether you really believe 100% that your wager is safe. A return is a return after all no matter how much you gamble to get that return.

As for placing a small wager myself, thanks for the advice but in my experience it’s better invested in a romantic week in Sorrento. Let me assure you the returns are a lot greater than any fiscal gains. You should really try it
