Backfill defender first

125

Brendan Rodgers was a bit too relaxed looking when announcing the probable departure of Carl Starfelt this week.  You could interpret this as a sign the ‘news’ was not news to him and that a plan to accommodate was at a mature state.

Reports from Sweden yesterday suggest we are interested in Gustaf Lagerbielke (23), central defender at Elfsborg.  Like Carl, Gustaf can play on the left, despite being right footed, he won his first Sweden cap in a friendly this year.

Both Maik Nawrocki (22) and Gustaf have first team experience at a top club a league of similar calibre to the Scottish Premiership.  Unlike the rest of our central defenders, Gustaf is midseason, so will be fully fit as Scottish football drags itself up the summer hill.

If he is coming, it would be good to get him in and settled before our trip to joint-top Kilmarnock on League Cup duty later this month.  As ever, Celtic will want backfill sorted before releasing Carl.

TB- difficult to judge IMO, SG have been crap,de Jong was a passenger in both games v Sevco last year.

  4. Bada,

Different manager, better players this time. They have been terrific so far this season.Great pre- season, and Cup win.One paced rubbish last year. You can see the difference.

It’s the Huns we are talking about.Who is to say Sturm Graz are not a better team than them.

    Impressive for me.

If Sevco do get past the napkins , PSV could totally embarrass them .

4-1 now. If the Swiss don’t get them the Dutch men will! 😃👍

If Copenhagen go through their tie we get an extra million coefficient money from UCL

  8. PSV look strong mid to front but a bit shaky at the back v a mediocre Sturm Graz.

If they do beat rangers I would mind drawing them from Pot 3 if they were in it.

  9. Turkeybhoy

I agree they were very good in parts but the opposition was limited and defensively to me they looked a bit vulnerable.

Hopefully enough to beat that lot if they did get through the Servette tie.

  10. Incredible to see the monies of KI K of Faroes beating Molde in the CL 3rd round qualifier.

They have already beaten Ferencvárosi and the Swedish champions Hacken.

They are now guaranteed group stage in one of the competitions which is some achievement and should make some clubs in this country take a look at themselves

  13. Burnley,

Would you fancy that Hun defence coping with that attack?

Watching the Video of Lagerbielke,I know it’s a Video, but it was not the usual,it was a full blown game, the boy looked sensational. If we DO get him,I would bet he would not be back up long.Maybe BR has visions of us playing a back 3 in some games, who knows, but he does look like an exceptional player.

  14. That wee team getting to the group stages in Europe,is just a Faroetale come true.

Wish I had a coat to get.

  15. As bad as the huns were at Killie, I expect them to make the play off round. It would be a real shock to see them crash out this round.

Probably be to our favour seeing them play two huge games against PSV with a trip to Dingwall sandwiched in between.

But the heart can’t help wanting them out this round despite the advantages of having them fall short against PSV.

  18. Good morning from another fine dry day in the Garngad, long may it continue.

I hope our buying in this window is not complete but at the same time I do not want to loose any 1st team starters, ie. Starfelt or Hatate.
