Backlash needed for Highlanders

623

Three weeks after putting 8 goals past South Lanarkshire’s top team Celtic struggled to demonstrate their superiority against the county’s least decorated SFA member

We’ve seen these games before, East Kilbride looked no weaker than the Arbroath team who took us to a replay after drawing at Celtic Park a few years back, but neither performance was an endorsement of Celtic’s football.

I’m getting an uncomfortable feeling that teams know how to play Celtic. For most, this knowledge will not affect the result, but some, like Ross County and Aberdeen, will figure they can give us the ball all day, and as long as they stick to task, they’ll have a chance.

The only resolution to the ills of the last three outings is to get back on the field and boss a game the way we did several times last month. Ross County and Inverness both visit Celtic Park in the next two weeks and both need to feel a backlash. Let’s hope.

I think it is absolute folly to adhere so strictly to his formation.

I can understand adhering to a philosophy but not a formation.

Unless you have the best players in the world.

I cannot wait to hear the explanation that convinced our plc he was the right man for the job. There is something in stromgodset F.C that they must have witnessed that got them thinking about the future.

re: “Lawyers and fitbaw don’t mix.”

    how ya doing pal….

Slaven Bilic, Richard Hinds (ex of Hull) and Gudni bergsson (spurs) all of whom were pro footballers and lawyers might disagree …. I am sure there are others, but these are the ones I can think of …

i think Scottish football needed more … not less … lawyers. Assuming 10 were involved, there must have been one or two honest ones who would have the character to come out and say ‘the games a fix/ the fans are being cheated ….’

The problem, of course, is that a lawyer has to be good, but a lawyer is only as good as the instructions the client gives …. and there doesn’t seem to be much of an appetite for truth amongst those that run scottish football.

  4. Well done the EK goalie, he stood on his head yesterday, and he got MOTM deservedly so, but for him it could have been 6/7/8 yesterday, but it was 2, same outcome were through, teams and nuggets think we’re …done…bibles burst…no heart……useless….1st goal was a hand ball really? Was it an ICT one? ….board out banner… Boooooooo after the game….. Support? Half of you wouldent know the way to Celtic Park, moan, moan, moan, I’m looking forward to the draw tonight, and I don’t care who we draw home or away, and I’m looking forward to the game at the weekend no matter who plays where, that CQN corner must be like this on a weekend.

    Celtic?

    Lightweight?

Aye in the football management department.

We have a young, ambitious but somewhat naive manager – wet around the ears if you like but nothing some guidance wouldn’t solve.

If RD looks above him at the club there is nobody. Just accountants, whisky retailers and the like. Men who know no more than you or me or anyone else on here.

Yet with all the football Celtic have played. Our highs and lows. Lessons learnt. The joys of winning and how we did that.

Why isn’t there a football man, a Celtic football man there to assist a young, ambitious manager?

Who missed that from the strategy and why?

Because all it has achieved is Malmo, Legia and the like and giving away the Forster and VVD money through unforgivable flops.

    Some strategy.

100% behind RONNY if he had a helping hand.

    =======

    WC

    Just catching up:)

If we find a football man who knows what is required to play for Celtic mentally and technically then give him the job.

We don’t need two managers, even if one is ‘upstairs’ – we need one who knows what it takes and is ruthless enough to implement.

Even if Ronny ever wakes up to the fact that the likes of Efe and GMS are nowhere near good enough we are then asking a man to change his personality to sort out these problems.

He is naive, and far too nice. This ain’t going to change.

In short he doesn’t really know what he is doing.

Granted he is not helped by some woeful players being recommended but its the blind leading the blind and can’t continue for long.

interesting …. was looking at flights/hotels for ireland for the end of march this weekend …. but, now the crazy ads at the top of CQN (‘how to make a million dollars a week’ sort of ads) have been replaced by ads for flights to ireland and abroad …. anyone fancy a cheap flight to mumbai? ….

  7. mike in toronto on

Philbhoy …. I had very high hopes for him when he joined. and, to be fair to him, I think he has been played out of position, and he has been affected by the malaise that seems to afflict players when they join Celitc of late, so I dont want to be be too critical of him ….. and professional courtesy and all ….

so, I was hoping no one would have mentioned him….. ssshhh! :)

  8. The worry for me isn’t so much that other teams have worked out how to play us, it’s that it has taken us so long to see that they’ve worked us out. The likes of Malmo had us well sussed.

It seems clear that not only do we need a Plan B, we need one that the players understand and have practised. It seemed clear that we tried a Plan B in the second half against Aberdeen, but the players didn’t get it and could not carry it out, especially GMS and Forrest. And Aberdeen nullified it by bringing on an extra defender.

It’s a worry; but it’s a bump in the road. Keep some perspective; Ronny will get the job done.

  9. MIKE IN TORONTO

Playing players out of position is what we do!

My biggest concern about SA is that he’s a big feartie! If you are playing badly you can always earn brownie points by making a few tackles.

I think JJ does a bit of fishing at times so I put this on his hook. It’s in moderation but I think he will correct his error and leave my comment up.

An Associate member of the SFA wasn’t a new construct, in fact under the rules at the time it was the norm.

Things changed when SPFL was formed, one of them was reduction of SFA membership categories from 3 to 2.

    The 3 were

    SFA Registered Mship

    SFA Associate Mship

    Full SFA Mship

As soon as SFL allowed TRFC in they had a SFA Registered membership.

A new club then had 14 days to apply for an Associate SFA membership and after 5 years of proving they had the stability, they could apply for a Full SFA membership.

That is what should have happened except that in club licensing rules a new club had to produce 3 years accounts to prove solvency and stability.

You see the problem that presented, so using the discretionary power under Article 14 Prohibition of Transfer of Membership to ALLOW such a transfer, TRFC instead waited for the transfer of Full Membership to happen. No application for Associate SFA Membership ever took place.

What did happen over the weekend of the Brechin game on 29th July is explained at

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/rangers/9432583/Rangers-in-crisis-Sevco-given-given-conditional-membership-of-SFA-as-stand-off-continues.html

That delay from earky July when SPL voted against RFC keeping their SPL share meant that by 29 July for the Brechin game you could not have a club without SFA membership playing in the SFL, so a CONDITIONAL one was created. This was ultra vires as Paul McConville pointed out, but was the kind of shenanigans indulged in to get TRFC over the hurdle of SFA and club licensing rules that weekend.

The article suggests the xfer of Full Mship was the bargaining position of CG because of the commercial value he saw in using it to present the transfer as meaning same club or that might have simply have occurred to him after the agreement was signed and he exploited it, but those dealings in July 2012 were all about keeping a professional football team playing at Ibrox under the auspices of the SFA in spite of the rules which were twisted to suit or invented.

Kind of kills the victim stance.

  12. Last word on JJ. At least he gives the opportunity to set the record straight with his fellow supporters.

  13. MiT

It’s just a shame the game needs lawyers but a few indoctrinated in the spirit of sporting integrity would sure help.

thetimreaper on 8th February 2016 2:14 pm Mulgrew may well be the most important player between now and the end of the season. I’m not his biggest fan but for his flaws he’s brave on the ball, knows what it’s about and has the experience to help us over the line. He should be sat in front of the two centre halves between now and May.

Was thinking the same. Could be the DM we have been missing. At least until the end of this season.

Quantum physics has now proven that consciousness creates. Thus a feeling of pure, positive expectation, if persisted in ,despite outward appearances, inevitably creates success.

You can only speculate how Celtic’s fortunes would turn out if the support to a Mhan fed the team enthusiasm and unconditional support, especially considering many of them are so young and tentative.

Ironic, – I suppose, two home games against the highland sides for Celtic to get the season back on track.

Certain players have failed Ronny Deila in key games, his system was flawed despite winning the league and a cup, and it will fail again because he hasn’t the players to make Celtic a force with his one tactic team.

The latest example is CKR, now lauded despite being at best ordinary. If there is any remaining hope for RD it’s an unbeaten cup run, the depth of the squad is still too far ahead over the piece and we’ll beat Aberdeen at CP as normal.

Oh for a proper change of regime where we remove the Lords, and Bankiers install Celtic men with a vision of the future and a desire for past injustice.
