Backlash Sunday

833

It is difficult to overstate the importance of Sunday’s cup final to Motherwell. They have won as many major trophies in the last 65 years as Celtic have won European Cups in the same period. What an opportunity they have.

Sunday might be just another final to you and me, or more importantly, to the Celtic players, but it is a date with destiny for all at Motherwell.

Right now, Celtic players will still be de-escalating emotions from Wednesday night. It is difficult to switch from one emotional peak straight into an equally intense state, but if we do not find our sharpness or thought and body, the Invincible trail will end this weekend.

I don’t think that will happen; there should be a backlash from Celtic. The open wounds from Wednesday will be used as fuel. The players have been slapped about by the hurt of defeat and will want to avoid a repeat on a national cup final. If Motherwell want to win, score a goal, or if they even want to pass the ball, they will have to operate at a level they have only attained for seconds this season.

The stakes are as high for both teams. Let’s hope the matter is decided without controversy.

Have a great and memorable day at Hampden.

  1. 3 games have separated us from going for a fourth domestic clean sweep….cheated in semi v Inverness, cheated in semi v Ross County and an abject performance v Sevco.

IF we turn up….. the only thing that will stop us today is cheating.

Lets put in a performance that will take the ref out the equation.

Got a concern about all the talk regarding the physical contest we are about to face.

Hope we let our football dictate the outcome and do not get involved in that as I’m sure the ref will be looking to make the most of any opportunity he gets to emulate his predecessors.

Something along the lines of what we produced up at Pittodrie will do nicely.

  2. THELURKINTIM @ 12:08 PM,

Think my big Bluenose pal from Motherwell might be joining us to watch the game.

The guys a Jinx, so shutting him up early and enjoying the pure, beautiful Football would be good.

Still I’d settle for 1-0 at extra time… the look of disconsolation would be worth the nervous exhaustion…;)

    Hail Hail

  7. Good afternoon friends.

Whilst all of the focus will be on our own 3 o’clock kick off, as a wee distraction can I say that it’s been a very interesting weekend so far on the ole Last Man Standing competition. Of the 25 still remaining, 14 made selections from yesterday’s games. 13 chose either Spurs, Hibs or Hearts and were all badly let down. Just the 1 qualifier so far who picked Man Utd.

The 11 who have chosen from today’s games are 4 relying on Arsenal, 4 with Celtic and 3, including my own Bhoy, with Manchezity. Good luck to all 11.

  8. Good afternoon fellow Tim’s.

I’m in Oban this weekend and having a great time.

The winter festival has been on and tonight is the finale.

Illuminations-(Pyrotechnics) and fireworks at McCaig’s tower.

Any suggestions on best place to watch the cup final with my baby.

To lift the CUP would make this an even better weekend. HH

  9. The Lurking Tim –

At least 5 (albeit that it’s the 90 minute score that counts for LMS). Arsenal could be a tight one.

    106 minutes to kick off…..

105 minutes till I source the bottle opener…

  13. Lenny’s Hibs,last 2 games,1 point,no motivation,they seem to park the bus,but it backfires on them,2_0 at the minute,to the Sheep,

  14. anyone think maybe gordons confidence might be down after psg. how about giving big dorus a run out hes never let us down.

Lustig & Bitton were having late fitness tests, in my world Lustig passed his :) HH

  16. Have to say the standard of the officials decisions at the Killi v Aber game is shocking. Ryan Christie getting booted all over the place very rarely gets a decision his way.

I fear we will likely be in for the same treatment this afternoon.
