BAIN IN, McGREGOR OUT

SCOTT BAIN’S meteoric rise continues with his call-up to the Scotland international squad for the friendlies in Peru and Mexico.

The keeper, who has just signed a four-year deal at Celtic following his four-month loan deal from Dundee, has been called in by Alex McLeish to replace Allan McGregor.

The 36-year-old shotstopper, who has rejoined Sevco Rangers after completing his contract at Hull City, has dropped out of the player pool although the reason is unclear.

Bain has yet to make an appearance for the national side, but was called up by ex-boss Gordon Strachan for clashes with Qatar and the Republic of Ireland in 2016.

McLeish has already been hit by call-offs from Matt Ritchie, Ryan Fraser and Barry Douglas and he has brought in Motherwell’s Chris Cadden and Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’Donnell.

Hearts centre-back John Souttar is also an injury doubt ahead of the double-header against the Peruvians in Lima on May 29 and the Mexicans at the Azteca Stadium on June 2.
