SCOTT BAIN is determined to continue to be Celtic’s number one No.1 this season.
The former Dundee keeper has played in all three games – the Scottish Cup-tie against Airdrie and the Premiership matches against St Mirren and Hamilton Accies – since the turn of the year.
Craig Gordon’s last appearance was at Ibrox on December 29 where he put in a Man of the Match performance and could not be blamed for the disappointing 1-0 loss.
But Brendan Rodgers gave the nod to Bain, who agreed a permanent deal in the summer after an impressive loan stint from Dens Park, and the 27-year-old shotstopper is poised to face St Johnstone at Parkhead tomorrow night – in the first of three games in 12 days against the Perth outfit.
The Scotland international squad star, who won a Betfred League Cup medal after the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at Hampden at the start of last month, said: “The aim when I came in here was to be patient, bide my time and, hopefully, get a run of games in the team and it’s been good to be able to do that.
“I never really thought about being the cup Coalie. I just worked away, and every time the gaffer put his trust in me to play, I tried to do the best I could.
“I was happy to get the game-time whenever I got it, and it’s been a case of taking it week-by-week and now that I’ve had a run of games it’s been good.
“Craig’s always played to the highest standard possible, so it’s maybe been a surprise to get games, but when I’ve come in, I think I’ve done well enough to show I’m capable of playing at this club.
“Everyone in football – and everyone in that dressing room – always backs themselves and backs their ability and it’s no different for me. Like I’ve done before, I’ve taken it game by game and I’ll continue to do that.”
