Balance returning, Magnificent effort

1052

After a tenacious win in Paisley on Friday Celtic were back in the groove last night.  Passing was swift and accurate, movement – perpetual.  It was a quiet game for Kris Commons, which at an earlier time would have meant a game with few chances for Celtic, but the prodding of Johansen, Armstrong and Mackay-Steven ensured Thistle played much of the game trying to chase shadows.

The return from injury of two of our three right backs, Adam Matthews and Darnell Fisher, has given the team better balance, although Adam still looks to be finding his sharpness.

John Guidetti established his early season reputation against Thistle with a League Cup hat trick but that seemed like a lifetime ago last night.  The striker had the odd chance but the terror he inspired in defenders a few months ago has gone.

Enormous thanks to winning bidder for our Open Golf Championship Hospitality competition, which finished a moment ago raising £2050 for our School Kitchen project for Mary’s Meals in Malawi.  Thanks to Eden Mill Distillery and Brewery in St Andrews and all who participated.

It was a stunning effort and the money is now in place to complete the fourth CQN school kitchen!  Well done to all who played their part.

Celtic sponsor, Magners, who have helped from the beginning of this recent school kitchen project, have a competition to play at Lennoxtown and Celtic Park.  You can enter your 7-a-side team into the Magnificent 7s competition before 5pm Wednesday 15th.  It would be good to see CQN represented.  Qualifying round takes place at Lennoxtown on Sunday 26 April with the finals at Celtic Park.

  1. I played the role of tour guide today and thoroughly enjoyed the open top tourist bus. Edinburgh really is a beautiful city but when the sun is shining, wow!

According to Angeline, my South African friend from Australia, it is “the most amazing city I have ever seen.”

And she has been around, so to speak.

Sometimes we Scots should count our blessings . . . with apologies to Neganon2 :-)

The love your family had for her will give you all the strength to get through the sad days ahead

  3. The Rangers story could get very controversial as I hear they are starting to make plans for 2018 and what they claim will be their 150th birthday celebrations.

    I agree.

There are many who’ve chucked it. I can count about 10 off the top of my head that I know.

None will be back when the huns in whatever guise reappear. To suggest that’s why folk have chucked it is ridiculous. In fact, it’s the contrary. Myself included.

  9. Had a very vivid dream last night that Martyn Kaymer won the Masters. Saw it in full technicolour too Off to put a wee bet on him and that Tiger won’t make the cut – – should be quids in!!!!

NEW regime stunned as Intellectual Property Office website reveals transfer may have been completed AFTER previous board was ousted from Ibrox.

RANGERS have launched an investigation after it emerged Mike Ashley now owns the club’s famous badges.

The recently installed regime was shocked after documents appeared on social media sites which appear to show that Ashley’s Sports Direct retail empire has taken control of all the club’s intellectual property – including club mascot Broxi Bear.

And interim chairman Paul Murray has demanded an immediate probe to discover how Ashley finally ended up with the club’s crown jewels.

In a statement a club spokesman confirmed to Record Sport: “The board is currently conducting a review of all contractual documentation but this particular issue has become a matter of urgency.”

On October 9 last year the Daily Record first revealed how the Newcastle United owner had brazenly attempted to get his hands on the historic crests in return for an emergency loan.

His plan was blocked by former chief executive Graham Wallace and ex-director Philip Nash – who were then booted out of the boardroom a month later after Ashley demanded their heads.

Now the current regime suspect Wallace’s replacement, former Newcastle CEO Derek Llambias, may have played a key role in making sure Ashley got what he wanted just days before the old board was routed by shareholders at an EGM on March 6.

A source close to the Rangers regime said: “We are looking at the timing of this transfer and from what we can see already, it looks really odd.

“It’s fair to say the board has already come across a number of strange things as they review all of the paper work they’ve inherited.”

Business experts believe control of the famous badges could bring in millions of pounds in merchandising and Ashley could rake in even more by charging the club a fortune for their continued use on all official kit.

The news has stunned Murray and his new board who were completely unaware of Ashley’s grab until details of the transfer appeared on-line earlier this afternoon.

The government run Intellectual Property Office’s website shows that Sportsdirect.com is now the registered owner of all of the Ibrox club’s traditional emblems including the ‘Ready’ motto and the RFC crest.

The digital documents also confirm that transfer from Rangers Football Club Ltd to Sportsdirect.com Retail Ltd was fully assigned on March 25 – less than three weeks after Llambias and Barry Leach, a former Sports Direct boss, were booted out of power.

Ashley already controls 75 per cent of the club’s retail division as part of a deal struck with the old board when he provided them with more crisis cash in January.

  16. Jingle Jangle is actually being really silly there and stoking some flames because the ipo website makes it clear the transfer was on the date of the loan. The paperwork wasn’t ratified until March, nothing more sinister than that.

Like yourself a good few of my mates gave up their season books.

To be honest it was mainly for financial reasons, I had to take a sabbatical myself in the past for the same reason.

It wasn’t just down to the cost of the books but travel and the cost once inside the ground.

Re: food and drink. That is something that should be addressed…the cost to supporters for junk food…yourself being a chef would probably have more insight on the mark up of said rubbidge served up fo extortionate prices. HH

Ps…didn’t mean to imply that’s what you make ;))

To be fair, Jackson acknowledges that the details were published online and he is only doing his job by writing about it rather than ignoring it, which is what we have accused the media of in the past.

In any case, surely it is better that such embarrassing revelations are given maximum publicity.
