  1. Happy with what I saw tonight but again pre season with constant changing it is hard to be definitive.

I’m in a minority here I know but I think Jullien is a fine Defender.

I’d have no problem having him in first team squad.

We are shaping up nicely, still need 2 or 3 in but I am so looking forward to this Season ,

  2. CORKCELT

I would like to see him partnered with CCV.

He is also a very good passer of the ball.

2nd half team looked as good if not better than the 1st half team

how do we keep Kyogo, Gia, Abada, Jota, Maeda and Forrest happy with enough game time….

They could all start everytime we play

    Siegrist getting on

SFTB,I hadn’t realised the size of the guy! I know there is debate about ‘sizism’ in the outfield players ,but there is no doubt about the advantage a really big ‘keeper brings to the team.

CORKCELT can I join your clique? When his head is in the right place he is an outstanding defender. If Ange can forgive him for his stupid remark(s) at the end of last season and can do his magic with him then we definitely have a ‘new’ top class defender to add to the stable.

  7. When I first got tae know Mrs TT she had a childhood pal that she went right through school with who told me she had an uncle that played for us and was quite famous, actually it was her da’s uncle.

Anyway on hearing this I went hame and told my Dumbarton born da who on hearing this former Celts name not only confirmed that but also took great pleasure in relating to me all about his exploits, the Irish in the town were a very close group.

That player was Jake Madden born and bred in Dumbarton’s High Street and known now as the father of Czech football, which ironically is where we were playing today

Difficulty with Chris Jullien is that he wants away and has made it clear. Celtic and AP will clearly not stand in his way and even tried to get him to sign an extension so that option to buy offered were he to sign with Schalke, would have had value to Celtic.

Stephen Welsh is the CB in the lead behind CCV and Starfelt in the meantime, having spent £7M on Jullien he will be actively open to sale and discouraged from letting his contract run down. So far I’m with Celtic on that one, given Jullien’s overall input which ended about a season and a half ago.

Again i liked the intensity, and the fitness of the Bhoys, What a Difference a,Year Makes….

  10. fanadpatriot on

We have a lot of good players ,but IMO ORiley is going to be above them all ,this Bhoy could be a superstar HH

  11. Doubt you are getting mixed up with Stephen Welsh as man of the match ,I think the flares on the screen got you mixed up ,Tony Ralston for me

  12. !!Bada Bing!! on

fanadpatriot- i want to see O’Riley running games,he has the ability, hopefully he has the belief, lovely footballer, another steal

  13. Oh. Give it a rest.

Joe Hart, get back in your goal. Stop playing around at the back.

Have we lost a goal due to the keeper being on the centre circle? No.

Have we scored goals BECAUSE we use the keeper as an extra outfield player. Yes.

Has playing around at the back ever cost us a goal? Once

Has playing around at the back ever cost us a point? No – it was a friendly so cost us a virtual two points.

For the record, it wasn’t the playing around at the back that was the problem, it was the bad pass from CCV and subsequent poor reaction and decision by Joe which caused the problem. But happy to attribute it to playing around at the back if that makes everyone happy. And helps statistically that it is a long time before we will lose another.

Juranovic sleeping at the back post is much more likely to re-occur (albeit a different player may be involved) than goal caused by playing football.

Score more goals than the opposition and it doesn’t matter.

    I like it.

  14. Port-Glasgow Express – Friday 28 July 1933

BAY CELTIC F.C. This team, which belongs entirely to George Street, is used to fighting an uphill battle, and is more at home in defence than in attack. The name may be found among th e records of the old juvenile league, for the Bay boys were able to keep most champions at “bay” %%hen they played in the Public Park. Anyone with any pretension whatever and anxious to make a debut to juvenile football always found a ready avenue to tread in the old Bay Celtic. In this way, perhaps, the club has done more for juvenile footmall than any other in town, and if to-day they are the babes among Port teams they are certainly not the worst in the Greenock and District League. Many clubs have to bow to their superior play, and the Port have to congratulate these lads for what they have done for the game. They hav e introduced many players of sterling calibre to juvenile football, and reared many fine young first-timers who on continuing the game with other teams, have proved themselves to be first-class products. Thep always play their best, and whether they win or lose, they carry a spirit of real sportsmanship. I’v e seen them hold the strong going Sandringham until the last twenty minutes when sheer pressure of better play finally beat them. In 1926-27 they entered the Secondary Juvenile League, and in their first year went as far as the semi-final of the Renfrewshire Cup, when they were defeated 3-I by Grenock Myrtle. This same year they entered the fourth round of the Malcolm Cup and fourth round of the Greenock and District League Cup, which was an exceedingly good start for a new team. In the following season —1927-28 they were unlucky to be drawn away from home to Barrhead Avondale in the fourth round of the Renfrewshire Cup. Barrhead won decisively by 4-I, but had the game been played in the Port the score might easily have been reserved. Players on their lists during these two seasons A% ere : Ross; Davidson and Mitchell ; M’Crombie, Keyes and Morgan ; T. O’Neill, Tosh, M’Callicm, Cullen and J. Hill. Others were : Green, P. O’Hagan, Boyde, Busby, Campbell, M`lFlryde, Morris, M’Glynn, Cummings, Hanley, Duffy and Mills. This team was scattered after two seasons’ play, in which they gave promise of much success. James Crombie played with Port Juniors and Morton. Corinthians signed Cullen, Morgan, Keyes and Tosh. Sandringham took Mitchell and Davidson ; Port Hibs, T. O’Neill and J. Hill ; Greenock Burnside, M’Callion ; whilst Aldergrove signed Ross, who proved to be a first-class goal-keeper and had trials with Port Juniors. After this depletion Bay Celtic went defunct, and for five years were not represented in juvenile football, although the players they had given continued to command the major honours of the game in this district. It was not until the unemployed teams began that an effort was again made to reorganise the team, and in 1932 it was arranged to enter a team from George Street. As this decision was late in being made, players were signed by other teams with the result that Bay Celtic had to build a team from players not signed by other clubs. Despite this disadvantage they signed the following players : MlGlashan, Travers, Anderson, Greig, Sweeney, Divers, M’Gowan, Love Hainey, M`Guire, George Miller, Jas. Miller, Thomson, Carlin, M`Kay, Cockburn, Alexander, Caird, M’Bryde, and M`Garrigle. Of this team Travers is a fine goalkeeper, and Anderson one of the best backs in the league. Divers is a player of wide experience who helps the team a lot. M’Bryde, who is their present secretary, is a good goalkeeper, and used to play with Port Hibs. They have done comparatively well this season, and next season hope to collect some of their old players to better their position. Should the team, with a stroke of luck, win some cup, the George Vaults will surely do their hit to fill the cup won by the George Street boys, known in football as `flay Celtic. Next week’s review—

Cairn Thistle. Port Celtic are likely to introduce LONDON SPENDS 27th July, 1933 Sir,—ln to-day’s “Glasgow Herald” see London’s County Council is planning to spend in the next ten years, in clearing away slums, 35 million pounds —a power o f money, truly. And yet, and yet—it is just a matter of comparison. In the last ten years what was London’s drink bill ?-240 million pounds! Which i. the wiser investment, beer barrels or hearthstones ? I am, etc., T.T.

  16. The good is getting better.

The poor is still a bit of a worry.

Hoping that JH starts to take command of his 6 yard box — but it is slow going.

The precision / the forward movement / the aggressive passing is coming.

Just a case that seem to lose our focus and let them into the game.

The 30 minutes at the end showed that we have no glue.

If one makes a mistake then nobody seems to offer help / mop up.

Playing BL with CJ is not the way forward.

    He looks increasingly lost.

MO’R — on point / paying precise football = Good future.

DT — running the show more energy / more presence Making good progress.

CMcG — going forward he looked good at times / mobile and tricky.

Unfortunately couldn’t keep weans oot a close / no defensive effort.

JMcC — WTF / Not good.

    GG — good goal.

DM — needs to relax but still got a bit of class.

LA — looked very mobile / seems to have made quite a bit of progress.

SW — had a better game but still a bit off where we need him to be.

  17. The day we win the Pre-Season bragging rights gies me the Abdul Qadir, I wisnae even born when Celtic were trailblazing.

    Brilliant Callum.

Celtic Park is gonnae be something else this Season.

  18. MADMITCH The vaults looking at it yesterday I’m afraid it’s on its last legs, the owner like other pub and shop owners were offered grants when that area was redeveloped, the owner of Vaults seemly got to greedy which resulted in him not getting a grant,he is paying the price now ,

  19. I enjoyed that run out,tho i was a bit late and got settled into just in time to see MoR have a quick look up and 2-1 it was.

Good energy shown in pressing and fast get ball out to wings and then centre a la big Gia’s cracker in the 2nd half.

We looked comfortable on the ball in tight situations and when being pressed.

Always work to do,well done on Tony Ralston on captaining in 2nd half.

I feel we will learn from that,as we did on Sat past

Always work to do and great appetiser before casting my own eye at our home on Sat.

BODO/Glimt scrape through 4-3 on aggregate against Faroese. Slovan Bratislava also through, as are Maribor and Ferencvaros. Cluj leading 1-0 on aggregate with 20 minutes to play.
