I don’t subscribe to the ‘Would rather face them with Messi’ world view. I’ve seen Lionel Messi a couple of times, it’s a bit like standing atop the Eiffel Tower, a breath-taking experience, but I don’t need to visit Paris every month to reinforce the view. Tomorrow will be an almighty challenge against one of the sport’s all-time great teams. Having pushed Barcelona to their absolute limits twice last season, we have no right to expect a second consecutive New Firm victory, but this is a home game at Celtic Park, we hope for a win.
The omission of Joe Ledley is a worry. Celtic need mobility and positional awareness in all positions tomorrow, Joe brings both elements to the party, how Neil Lennon compensates for his enforced absence in central midfield will be a key decision.
I also don’t subscribe to the view that, unlike a year ago, Barca will know what to expect this time. Celtic’s 2-1 victory last season came after they took Barca to added time at the Camp Nou before Barca got their winner. Barcelona knew exactly what to expect, they just didn’t know what to do about it. I see no reason why they will be any better tutored this time. Unless they’ve figured out a way of making wee guys jump higher than big guys.
We are fast, we’re tall, we defend when necessary and we run all game. Unless Barca decide to play for a point and defend deep, which they won’t, they will play exactly as they did last season.
On seeing an X Factor item on the news I complained, “That’s not news”, but I was challenged, “If that’s not news, what makes football news?” Sporting and entertainment events are news if those who produce the news determine it to be so, which places considerable authority on news editors.
Charlotte Fakes revelations have shown us how news professionals, keen to distract attention from a disaster zone of a club, tried to create negative ‘news’ stories concerning Celtic.
Three years ago the Green Brigade displayed a banner at Celtic Park which went largely uncommented upon for several days. Four days after the event, the banner became a nationwide news story, TV news reported it and it made a Radio 5 Live morning discussion programme.
The delay in the item becoming ‘news’ was the most important part of the story. It wasn’t news until the news editors had been convinced otherwise. The damage to Celtic’s reputation was considerable.
Today news editors who ran that story three years ago have an interesting dilemma. Do they run a story about an alarming message being displayed at a football ground, or without being lobbied, is that not a story?
Celtic don’t spend money trying to get negative stories about other clubs in the newspapers, but this is surely not exclusively the way the ‘news’ industry works.
We shouldn’t have to wait on a whistle-blower to shine a light on what happened three years ago, journalists know when they have been lobbied, and that’s the real story, which is not dependent on unfathomable leaks.

The story that no one in Scotland would touch over the weekend will go national tonight.
The Police are investigating the alleged sectarian behaviour of members of the Armed Forces on parade at a football match at Ibrox.
It’s absurd, almost perfectly so, and perhaps, will help to bring the wider aspects into clearer focus.
Deeper and wider examination of how and why these incidents occur will help to further evaporate Scots’ tolerance of behaviour that is incongruous with a 21st century society.
Just watched the last episode of Breaking Bad, an extraordinary end to an extraordinary series.
Couple of points ref the Disgrace at Ibrox on Saturday.
1. They may be dead, but the poisonous spirit of RFC1872 lives on in the zombies. Clearly the club is now fully geared to exploiting openly the sectarian element which it nurtured, but pretended didn’t exist, for a century or more.
Their official reposnse, from Andrew Dickson, of Rangers TV who suggested detractors should “take a look at their passports and remind themselves of where they come from…” is proof positive that the loonies are now well and truly in charge of the asylum.
Say what you like about Dodgy Dave, he seldom traded this openly and this desperately on Protestant Supremacy. (The orange shirt debacle notwithstanding…)
2. What on earth were the army chiefs thinking? Only six months after their last trip to Ibrox ended in ignominy, they once again let their troops loose in that sectarian hell-hole. Whoever sanctioned this, and supervised the day itself, ought to be court-martialed.
3. Once again the media in Scotland simply refuse to touch a story which might bring criticism to Sevco. Every home affairs and sports journalist on the Scotsman Herald, Sun and Record should be utterly ashamed that it has taken two London-based reporters to mention this debacle.
We are beyond the point where the media in Scotland can be considered anything but completely unfit for purpose. With massive decisions to be made about all of our futures next year this is incredibly worrying.
4. Where are the police? Busy locking up wee boys who play the WolfeTones on their car stereos too loud? Where are Alex Salmond, Christine “we need to even it up” Graham, and “Red” Roseanne Cunninghame?
Multiple sectarian breaches of the peace, all captured on video… Summit? Mass arrests? Or another example of the “fabric of our nation” in action?

Thanks. Im just wary of turning up and it being full.
Apropos nothing at all happening this week… Isn’t life grand being a Tim. Still off today after getting back from a week in the Algarve (weather wasn’t great, though being off work was). Saw the Killie game in Shakers pub in Olhos d’Agua – good Tim shop if ever there. Love seeing the wee bhoy up the road running up and doon the street wi his Celtic top one minute and the alternative of a Barca top the next. Daughter just moved into new house in Perth from a dingy little flat in the centre. Oh, and by the way, got 2 tickets for tomorrow for me and the daughter. What’s not to like!
p.s. details on Google for Senior Military Officer in Scotland to complain about the disgusting bigotfest are:
Rear Admiral C J Hockley MSc CEng CMarEng
Flag Officer Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland (FOSNNI)
HM Naval Base Clyde
Faslane
Helensburgh
Argyll & Bute

Bawsman – 35
Not only are the herald not reporting the scenes in their match report they are also only allowing positive posts in the comment section. I was first to post slating the scenes and when I returned my post was nowhere to be seen and every comment was how wonderful it was. Scotland one nation.
n the past fools would pay
To see the freaks of the day
Contradictions of the norm
The bizarre, the wonderful and deformed
No need for the tents
And the cages now
The world comes to my eyes
In front of my TV circus
A freak show in disguise
If any Scottish msm journalists are lurking here, why oh why are you such a cowardly bunch? You have a duty to report these goings on and to not do so is a dereliction of that duty. Have you no pride in your profession or your country? Shame on you all!
Very disappointed with AT’s mentioning of Celtic in his piece.
If only we had someone at the club with the balls and/or inclination to challenge it.
And you’ve got to imagine John Daly was very uncomfortable on Saturday. Or perhaps he’s truly thick and happy to pick up the wages.

Not able to make it from my location. Please give my best regards to Hugh McD – tell him I was asking for him (AF from Busby – same class at school). Sounds like a fascinating evening. HH
Cristiano Ronaldo sold his golden boot for €1.4m and donated all the money to Palestinian children. Respect!
I’d expect some intelligence at the top of the Armed Forces but to make the same mistake twice in a matter of months reminds me of this fellow:

They have boundless energy, do we?
More hatred, more attacks, this time first appearing in an PIRA newsletter. And same response from the now pathetic, crippled and laughable police and politicians.
I have to admire them in some ways… their hatred and sectarian bile is 24/7, 365 days.
Armed Forces day passes like a dream, and 2 days later the fenians have us looking at arrests etc. But we can’t give up or they will destroy us. If we falter they will pounce. They don’t want talks, agreement, or rivalry. They want us dead.
Ally Mcoist sold his golden boot for £1.40p and donated all the money to Gregg’s.

“They want us dead.”
Should that not be “They want us dead again.”?
BFSDJ position at Clyde,Evening Times must now be untenable, after saying the bigotfest was “wonderful”.
Off topic
Why don’t people who walk their dogs keep them on a lead and pick up their shit
This really mounts my front muscles
Friesdorfer, I will certainly pass on your regards, cheers !!

Yes, a month’s wages… Maybe got fed up looking at it, not as if he paid for it.
Perhaps the SMSM haven’t reported on the bigot fest because they see nothing wrong with it.
If that is the case it’s worse than we thought!
Happy birthday MightyTim hope you’re having a great day!
Welcome to the world young Baeu just in time to watch Celtic play Barca perfect timing!
A light insanity
Will ask around to see if they have space and post later

The thing about the bigotfest at Ibrox is that they just don’t get it.
I watched last year’s Remembrence debacle (which was much worse than last Saturday’s shambles) on a feed and was apalled by what I was seeing but Tom Miller was raving about these wonderful scenes!
His co-commentator in fairness was a bit less enthusiastice but the bold Tom was fair chuffed at the antics of the troops at what was supposed to be a solemn event of reflection and remembrence. Even the ground saff were obviously embarrassed as drunk squaddies hugged them.
That’s what makes Rangers so special drooled Tom.

Lost too much money on wee tarts in the past, mate.
Well done though….
Big nan…
Posted the petition to Tim mates in Shanghai… Not sure if it will produce results but asked them to distribute….
I emailed my MP to ask if it is fitting for our forces to be wearing uniform and be seen supporting a proscribed paramilitary organisation.
I also wrote to the Scottish Justice (Aye, I know) minister asking why the police didn’t make arrests when the sectarian songs were being sung.
I felt that my efforts would be filed and forgotten but now that the UK press are running the story, we may see some action. The Scottish press are going to be shown up for the lamb guzzling cowards they are. We might also, at last, get a full and honest investigation into the whole Ipox debacle. There must be a major press award for the journalist/s who crack this story.
Nothing on Radio Shortbread 4.30 news.

I’m disappointed, nothing from The Singing Detective yet on the deplorable antics of the military from his sceptre’d isle at Ibrox on Saturday.
Oh well, I’ll catch up with them in the morning.
Mind, it’s a topic where he’ll not be able to do a cut and paste job, that might just snooker him.
